TRANSCRIPT
We have finished a very
busy first month and look
forward to provincial assess-
ments being completed, rou-
tines being set and followed,
and generally just being
more settled.
Our school numbers are just
shy of 400 students this year
which made for some very
full classes especially at the
lower elementary level. We
received special funding for
another classroom which
helped us avoid restructur-
ing into numerous combined
classes. We welcome Ms.
Kendra White to our Prima-
ry/1 class and Ms. Kelly Mo-
rash who is providing class-
room support during our
collaboration times.
In the newsletter you will
find a communiqué from
CCRSB sharing the Early
Dismissal Pilot that is
happening during 2016-
2017. This Pilot super-
sedes the school’s Early
Dismissal Plan that went
home in September.
Please read the communi-
qué carefully and if you
have any questions, call
either the school or the
numbers listed. We have
included an outline de-
tailing what it means for
AGB families.
Our Grade 2 classes visited
classrooms to share infor-
mation about the Food Bank
Drive that is currently tak-
ing place at AGB. They
would like to thank everyone
for supporting this drive.
Over the past few weeks, we
have been practicing our
Emergency Codes. You may
have heard about us moving
to our safe spots in the class-
room with the lights out, the
doors locked and the blinds
closed when we did our Code
Blue Lockdown. We will be
practicing an outdoor Code
Blue Friday, October 7th.
The change of the staff park-
ing lot had us adjusting
our muster stations for our
Code Reds. The fire trucks
will be able to access the
hydrants more easily now.
Last year we did a full
Code Black evacuation;
this year we did a tabletop.
I’m certain those travel-
ling on Abercrombie Road
were happy not to have us
tying up traffic while we
crossed it multiple times.
Finally, at this time of
thinking about the many
things we have to be
thankful for, the staff of
AGB would like to extend
their thanks to our fami-
lies and wish you all a
Happy Thanksgiving!

LABEL your child’s clothing and supplies.
It will make it much easier to return lost items if the child’s name is on it. We can only keep clothing so long as it takes up a lot of space. It will be donated to the local thrift shop.
Late Arrival/Absences
If you know that your child will not be at-
tending school, please advise your child’s
teacher in advance if possible, or contact the
school at 755-8240 or

Winter Weather is Coming: Early Dismissal Pilot for CCRSB Schools
Deciding when to keep schools open, and when to cancel them during the winter can be
challenging.
CCRSB staff consult with multiple weather forecasts and forecasters, check on road condi-
tions throughout the school board region via the RCMP and the Nova Scotia Department
of Transportation, as well as our own staff members on the ground in each area, to help
make the call to cancel school.
This year, we’re trying something new.
Beginning this winter season, CCRSB schools and offices will be participating in
an early dismissal pilot. Days when the forecast predicts developing winter weather
conditions (blowing snow, icy roads, freezing rain, etc.) late in the day, CCRSB may consid-
er announcing an early dismissal for schools. The early dismissal will be based on predict-
ed weather conditions for certain geographical areas (Pictou, Colchester, Cumberland and
East Hants), just like morning cancelations. Individual schools will not be dismissed early,
only groups of schools, by geographical area.
Why is this pilot needed?
The early dismissal pilot has two goals:
To reduce the number of instructional (learning) days lost to a full day cancelation due
to the weather, while keeping the health and safety of students and staff our top pri-
ority.
To assist parents and guardians in their planning for days when the forecasted weather
is poor.
How will it work?
Early dismissal will be one or two hours before the usual school day end. For ex-
ample, on a day when a one-hour early dismissal is announced in the morning, a school
normally dismissing at 2:30 pm would dismiss at 1:30 pm that day. Bussed students who
normally arrive at their bus stop at 3:15 pm should arrive at their bus stop at 2:15 pm. The
end of the day simply rolls back an hour or two depending on the early dismissal decision.
How will students, parents and guardians know about the early dismissal?
The early dismissal decision will be announced on the school board website
(ccrsb.ca), Twitter and Facebook by 6:30 am.
The “All Schools OPEN” button on the CCRSB website will turn orange, and will read
“Early Dismissal”. Click on the button to get information about the early dismissal
decision, including where it will be happening.
The early dismissal decision will be sent to all local media, to be carried on the radio
and on news websites.
Some schools may also choose to send an “Alert” email or text message to parents and
guardians, announcing the early dismissal.
Questions about the early dismissal pilot can be directed to school principals, CCRSB Stu-
dent Transportation at 902-897-5561 or CCRSB’s Operations Department at 902-897-
8930.

You will read in the newsletter about CCRSB’s Early Dismissal Pilot. Please make sure you
read this and if you have any questions, call the school for clarification. This Pilot replaces
the plan the Baillie has had in place for the past several years. The school will no longer be
calling home prior to an early dismissal because it will have been announced at 6:30 am on
the radio stations. Please note:
CCRSB will announce either a 1 hour or a 2 hour early dismissal for that day.
At AGB a 1 hour early dismissal will be 1:30 pm for busses or 1:35 pm for walkers and a 2 hour early
dismissal will be 12:30 pm for busses or 1:35 pm for walkers (i.e., students walking home/to care-
givers or being picked up).
As the CCRSB Pilot Project is for 2016-2017, If your child’s dismissal is going to deviate from the usual
end of day routine (the Y will not be operating in our cafeteria and we have yet to hear about the
Westside AfterSchool program at the Scout Hut), you will need to communicate that information
in your child’s agenda.
Please keep this information for future reference. For the safety of our students, until this
new pilot becomes more familiar, we want to ensure that our parents are aware of the new
procedures that will be in place.
