Deakin Food Traceability Lab• Focus on real world impact and industry-facing research

• Provide a platform for research collaboration

• Combine CSCL supply chain expertise with best-of-breed technology solutions and systems approaches

• Respond to SME/artisanal as well as industrial food logistics challenges including

• Verification of food pedigree• Product integrity• Track and trace• Chain of custody

Implementing end-to-end food traceability

• Standardise data sharing along a supply chain• Data protocols for all activities from procurement, production, processing and

manufacturing, distribution, import and export, retail(and potentially end consumer) -the “what, where, when, how and who” of the product - its ingredients and inputs, and events along the supply chain

• Saves the cost of trying to integrate across incompatible systems and allows any technology to use the same data formats so data can automatically move with the product

• It helps with monitoring the product, in product recalls and in meeting regulatory compliance

• Enable identification of the product, verification that it is the authentic product, and creates a “licence plate” on the product that is visible along its supply chain and is globally recognised

Why end-to-end food traceability?• One up:one down traceability and proprietary solutions limit visibility and

responsiveness and can result in lost product, sales and reputation

• Brands are suffering significant financial losses as a result of counterfeits

• Consumer safety is at risk, especially for the most vulnerable

• SME suppliers have limited resources to achieve bespoke system interfaces with every customer

• Addressing this issue requires a national approach supported by

• Industry

• Government

• Solution Providers
