Sensitisation of RNTCP Staff about the implementation of Eli Lilly Project Intervention 3
‘Training of Traditional Healers’ in Unnao (U.P.) has been organised on 11th August,
2011 at Meeting Hall, CHC, Nawabganj, district- Unnao.
The Meeting was presided over by DTO- Unnao Dr Rakesh Kumar. The participants
were program staff and government officials viz., Medical Officers, Surgeons,
Paediatrician, Gynaecologist Doctor, MO- AYUSH, Lab Technicians, Counsellors, Lab
Assistants, STLS,
BHW, PS, ASHAs,
Nurse, ANM,
Assistants, etc.
The sensitization

Staff was conducted at
CHC Nawabganj,
district- Unnao to
ensure the active and
positive participation
of supporting and
concerning staff to implement ‘Training of Traditional Healers Program’ in that area and
also to maximize the outreach support services to control TB in rural areas.
The program began at 10.30 AM with the registration & formal welcome of Participants
by Mrs.Vandana Mishra, new Program Coordinator. They have also distributed Training
Kits e.g. Pen, Pad, Folder, Literature to all the participants.
Dr SK Srivastava, Director- SIR has addressed all the participants about the Introduction
& Overview of Project for Training of Traditional Healers in Unnao. The session was
conducted during 11.00AM-11.45 AM. The mode of training was participatory.
After that there was Tea Break for about 15 minutes during 11.45 AM-12.00 PM. The
Snakes and Tea were distributed to make environment informal for promoting the
active participation of participants.
Dr Rakesh Kumar, DTO, Unnao has delivered invaluable lecture over the Status of TB in
the district- Unnao, Causes & Cure of TB, Measures being taken to control TB,
Expectation from Traditional Healers to increase the referral & Follow up, Role of DOTS
Providers, etc. He has adopted Lecture & Participatory approach to convey the message.
The session went during 12.00 PM-12.45 PM.
Dr S. Roy, Consultant- WHO, Lucknow has encouraged all the participants by delivering
Motivational lecture on Health Condition and support required for TB control in the
rural areas. He has cited many real instances about the safe and unsafe behavior in the
field in this regard. The session went during 12.45 PM-1.30 PM. He has used the Lecture
& Participatory Approach during the program.

matter and implementation process.
Dr AK Tripathi, CMS, CHC/TU, Hasanganj, district- Unnao has addressed all the
participants and assured to the implementing agency to extend full support to the
project during the project period. He also elaborated the problem of low referral rate to
TB testing and expressed hope to get the referral rate increased due to active
participation of Traditional Healers. The session went during 2.00 PM- 2.30 PM.
Dr KK Adim, CMS, Community Health Center, Nawabganj, Unnao has addressed the
participants about the testing facility available and the role of supportive staff during
the project implementation. He assured to give the full support to the project and found
it quite useful in accessing the TB suspects in the remote areas. The session went during
2.30 PM- 3.00 PM. The mode of sensitization was Lecture & Participatory Approach.

by reiterating the
concept of the Training
of Traditional Healers in
district- Unnao, The
Union, Eli Lilly Project,
TB- its causes and cure,
Testing facilities,
outreach services,
referral rate in the
district Block wise, the vulnerability, the impact of traditional Healers over rural
community, their prospective role and contribution, and effective TB control in the
areas, etc. He has also encouraged DTO- Unnao to extend full support to the project
openly and accordingly, DTO- Unnao rose from his chair and instructed openly and
collectively to all the participants of DMC, TU, CHC, etc. to extend full support to the
program throughout the project period. The session went for about half an hour i.e. 3.30
PM.
Program Coordinator Smt Vandana Mishra has expressed thanks to all the participants
for their invaluable participation and time spend.
DTO, Consultant- WHO, CMS- CHC, Nawabganj, Unnao and CMS- CHC/TU- Hasanganj,
Unnao has issued Appreciation Letter for conducting such program.
Earlier Shri RK Bajpai was selected to work as Program Coordinator but he has some
personal problem in spending the time with the project in that area, therefore, Mrs
Vandana Mishra has been assigned the responsibility of Program Coordinator for the
rest of the project period. She is MA (Sociology), Counsellor, HIV, AIDS having
experience of working in social and health sector for more than 6 years.
During the program the honorariums were paid in cash to DTO, Consultant, both CMSs,
but they have denied giving any signature on the Honorarium Receipts. We did not force
them. Plz also advise in this regard.
