What are we Implementing and Monitoring?
• Numeracy Facilitators are assigned to a school for a month at a time. Reaching 1/3 of our schools with direct support.
• Monthly Numeracy Facilitator Newsletters• Emails to grade groups with attached ‘Signature
Lessons’ that they are invited to try• Posted resources on the portal by Strand, Topic
and grade• Regular requests to provide feedback to our team
Numeracy Facilitator Newsletters• At the beginning of each new unit
we create a newsletter for the primary division and one for the junior division.
• It is a ‘One Page Wonder’ summarizing the most essential information we can incorporate at a particular point in time.
• May include:• Guide to Effective Instruction
links and activities• Big ideas, key concepts and
major misconceptions• E-workshop Mathematics
Modules• Other websites• Literature Connections• Suggested Manipulatives• Encouragement to visit the portal
for more support• Invitation for sharing and
feedback
I am wondering how these newsletters have been helpful to
principals?
Signature Lessons in Smart Notebook files• Key Lessons that the team has
tried in classrooms and/or lessons from the Guide to Effective Instruction in Mathematics are developed in Smart Notebook and put on the portal for teachers to access.
• In the initial stages we email the file directly to the teachers in specific grade email address books to let them know that this resource and others like it are available on the portal.
• Teacher notes and brief instructions are often included.
• Photos of student work and anecdotal notes are provided.
• Related EQAO questions are also incorporated whenever possible.

Monitoring and saving e-mail feedback from teachers regarding digital support
Cheryl, I love these. I used the rate one today and was amazed at the (about 4) different ways my students solved the internet rate question successfully. Me teaching them one way doesn't accomplish this kind of understanding. Keep sending them, I am definitely using them and as a bonus, saves me a lot of time. Thank you, Linda Moraal
Feedback from teachersHello Cheryl, In follow up to your request for ongoing feedback, I wanted to let you know that I have just finished marking my students' algebra tests and I have never given so many level 4's!!! This is our second unit that we have co-planned and co-taught together, not to mention the partnership amongst our "fab 4" and I am thrilled with this new way of math teaching and the consequence of terrific learning on behalf of the children! I really feel that the more "simplified approach" leads to more advanced and sophisticated learning/thinking and communication that is making it easier for the kids to "apply" the concepts.
Thank you for all your terrific support - your role as a numeracy facilitator, in my classroom, has made a real difference!Lisa Pieta
Feedback from Teachers
Hi Cheryl,I LOVE all the resources that the math team has been sending out. Please let everyone know that the Smart Board files and links on the newsletters have been wonderful and much appreciated. I have used many of them in my math program and the students really enjoy them as well. Melissa Holmes
Feedback from Teachers
I just wanted to send a quick note to say that I appreciate all of the hard work that the Numeracy team is putting in to create meaningful and helpful lessons. I have not sent any feedback to date, but want you to know that I use everything that comes my way! The three part lessons are very useful and engaging for the students.
Thanks for forwarding them on as they are available and putting them on the portal!
All of your work is appreciated!Angela Smyth
• Video of a participating teacher from my i-pad of what it has meant to her to be involved in this work.
TEACHER VOICE
STUDENT VOICE• We are using the app, ‘Explain Everything’ to
capture and record student thinking. – Grade 2 students demonstrating their subtraction
strategy– Grade 6 students explaining and solving a balanced
Equation
• Audio recording of student conversation telling us what they need in a math class and from their teachers.
What do I still want to monitor and implement?
Student impact statements. How have their attitudes about math changed? What do they like about math?
For another year:Parents – What is the best way to reach the parents about how they can support their child in mathematics?
Specific Teacher Feedback from sub-groups based on level of support. Can we still have an influence without direct contact?
