Today, we areliving with our hearts filled withsadness and love for those who wetruly loved”. As a citizen of India,as a human of the world, as a son,as a friend, as a student and as atrue lover of someone, the only thingI can proudly give and dedicate toall without expecting to be givenback is, “Love” and that too, “PureLove”. For there is a Buddhistsaying, “When you give and expecta return that’s an investment, butwhen you give and expect nothingthat’s pure love”. Love above all,can br ing peace, prosper ity,happiness, development and all thegood things that one can except, if

With the current onsets of apandemical global issue, it is reallysad to see many loved onesseparated and some, gone from thestages of life. The world is sufferingand so is Mother Earth, from all thebad deeds of deter iorationcommitted by her lovely children,humans. For the sake of love, one

could conceive the idea of takingthe life of their most loved ones,which is not just a literal colloquial,but a real occurrence seen in thisworld, with some portrayed inplays. No, we won’t blame ourMother for committing such a thingout of pure love, nor do we blameourselves. But we do know why shesuffered, and suffers, because of us.For the sake of love, let us forgiveourselves, and change ourselves tobring normalcy, peace,development, unity, and mostimportantly, ‘life’ in mother’s lap. Allwe need is love, for love can doanything, if and only if, it is true andpure. With many of the countries ofthe world suffering, we shouldn’tstay scared and panic, instead, wemust stay strong, pray for ourbrothers and sisters, and spreadlove instead of rumors. We mustspread love and support instead ofgiv ing racial comments to thepeople of the “Great Land”, and ofcourse to the mongoloid brethren. Mother India, we may lookdifferent, eat and dress differentfrom the rest of your children, butwe are also one of your childrenwhether adopted or not. Doremember us when in need of helpor love, for we are ready to giveeveryth ing we have for ourdistraught brothers and sisters.Just because of ourdistinctiveness, our siblings, yourelder children, may taunt us, maybe disgusted of us and make fun ofus but we stay strong and thrivebecause we accept you as ourMother and love you as our own.Now is not the time to dwell in thegruesome past and fight for whatwe lost, but now is the time tomove on and live with what wehave and what we are in thismodern world, but forget not, dearmother, for we still haven’tforgotten the past and feel the pain

of being looked down upon as anadoptee. Nevertheless, we are avery proud lot, and will do anythingto make you proud even though itisn’t recognized or considered. Westand with our sickened siblingsand pray for their fast recovery. JaiHind! Lastly, with all the world, andmy country mentioned, I write thispara with love to her to stay safeand strong. For you are one of themain reasons, I want to live andsurvive, amidst the turmoil of life,and of course the present COVID-19. With the world above me, andeverything about life considered asimportant above me, I do keep youso close at the bottom of my heartfar away from all those pressuresof life. Needless to say, Media is the fourthpillar of democracy, the other threepillars being Legislature, Executiveand Judiciary (not in order ofprecedence). It is the most viableinterface that connects the first threepillars with their stakeholders i.e.citizens. Therefore, its characteristicvitality lies in impartiality,representation, liberty and justice. Amisrepresentation of an incidentcould unleash a potential threat,even worse than the incident itself.The 16/3 incident of the Chassadinferno/conflagration is a case inpoint. A shocking sigh caught all andsundry to listen and watch the ISTVnews channel, reporting that onlyaround 10 houses were gutted downby fire. This was so misleading thateven the state CM was quoted assaying “khara khara.” This is agross injustice, for the live report ofthe burning clear ly indicatedotherwise—the flame, billowingsmoke and the areal extent. This isan un-called for. In a similar vein, the so-calledImpact TV Cable network could notmuster the courage to tell the wholeworld who the real perpetrators wereof the heinous crime. The newschannel deliberately muzzled itself,compromising its credibility while itreported that the inferno was carriedout by ‘unknown miscreants’. Arethese an appeasement tactic? It isthe gospel truth that the incidenthappened in a broad daylight. Evenwhile a smart mobile phone couldcapture gun-toting men donning incamouflage at the spot, where areyour HD Resolution lens facing?Post-incident, there have been ampleevidences coming up in the form ofvideo clips and photos. The self-proclaimedmob justice based on lack of properapplication of mind should beresponded by putting the culpritsbehind bar. Relief and rehabmeasures for the victims won’tsuffice. Anything less than this willbe considered inaction on the partof state government and be refusedby taking a refuge in Article 32 ofthe Constitution of India. With thisconstitutional writ of Mandamusunder Article 32, the Supreme Courtcan directly be approached, evencircumventing the State High Courtover the alleged inactions of thesaid two forces (the Police & theAssam Rif les) and the StateGovernment. Article 32 is aFundamental Right. Kuki CSOsshould hold firm their integrity andnot easily be co-opted. This willcome in handy for the Governmentof Manipur to restore the status quo.Otherwise, the Government will haveits task out in ensuring a peacefulco-existence between the twobeleaguered communities.Origin TheoriesTangkhuls trace their origin to theKhangkhui Mangsor caves inUkhrul d istrict of Manipur.Undoubtedly, they are pioneers ofChristianity in the state of Manipur.

Conversely, forgetting their belief inthe Biblical origin in the Edengarden, they preach around andposit their fellow-believer Kukis asrefugees in Manipur. Their commonbelief of origin has been dumped fortheir own political mileage.Historically, until the time the Kukishad arrived in their present areas,no entity hitherto existed as to ruleand control over them. This is theheritage of the Kukis of today whichnobody could claim ownership overtheir land.Way ForwardCome what may, the Kukis shallstrive hard, in the interest of justice,to stand their ground and not bebogged down by the irrelevantclaims of the Tangkhuls. A peaceloving Kuki community will holdfast unto its en trenched non-violence strategy. Else, an eye foran eye would make the whole worldblind.Peace could carve its own niche byinvolving all the three stakeholders-Kukis, Tangkhuls and StateGovernment. The tr i-partitenegotiation should be consultativeand not prescriptive. The two tribalChristian communities should try tobe on same page to give peace achance. This will assuredly providea low hanging fruit for our well-being, while the state governmentwould merely play the secondfiddle. This would be worth thewhile.Therefore, the Chassad Wrongshave hold out the perpetrators’hands in a clear sight. No mediacan hide the truth and no criminalbe immune and lay scot-free. Thereis a great likelihood that those twoprominent media houses in thestate suffer adverse consequences.Never theless, the aggrievedsubscribers are always ready to rollback their resolve to cut theirsubscription, provided a genuineinitiative is taken up to pacify themby the two TV cable networks.

Like the proverbial aim of the hunter, the focus of oursociety at present has been drawn to the issuesregarding the Bills and later the attack by coronavirus

and its subsequent fallout, so much so that we seemed tohave obliterated other equally pressing matters, if not greater.

The vagaries of nature that played havoc to crops in thestate is bound to adversely affect the supply of foodgrains,and with the approaching summer, things are bound to getmore diff icult. The disturbances and disruptions intransportation, over and above the human-induced ones havemade matters worse. Even with the two national highwaysbecoming functional, we still cannot say with certainty thatthings are back to normal, essential commodities beings almostas difficult to procure or just as expensive even now. There isalso the very real danger of out breaks of various epidemicdiseases as the garbage are seen piled up at various localityas well as at crowded place in Imphal. Road connectivity in lotof places other than the two main lifelines of the state stillneeds to be restored fully, and even the ones which are stillfunctioning are just so.

Fighting for a cause one believes is all very well, anddemanding understanding and attention from those who areat the helm of affairs of the state is a prerogative for a citizen.But fighting for one’s rights without discharging ourresponsibilities is nothing short of demanding a signed blankcheque.

We have become so ingrained with the idea andexperience of existing on subsidies, handouts and quotas.No one can present us a better life on a platter, and even inthe

unlikeliest event of such a thing coming true, we willnot be able to fully utilize the present. We need to earn ourkeeps, and for that to happen, we need to radically alterour present mindset from which a lot of the present tusslesare generated. Our state still has a lot to offer for thosewho seek to better themselves.

Life very rarely turns out to be the way we envisaged,but that is not an excuse to rebel or revolt. Only a mindsetthat can accept, understand and persevere can and willovercome every difficulty life can throw at it. Manipur, asa state has potentials waiting to be tapped. If we can growout of the narrow visions of caste, customs, culture or class,we can still turn this unique place into the paradise we haveso often been told of. But time is running out- and fast.For all the prep talk by the government and the leaders,what is actually needed is the implementation of the loftyideas and generous promises. The need of the hour is aleader who leads the way rather than one who shows theway. And we should be able to follow when such a leaderemerges. That is our responsibility. That is our right.
