    Shogun/Samurai Swords Variant Victory Conditions

    By Mike Montesa

Review of current rules. Standard First player to control 35 provinces wins. Quick

Start 5 players: control 30 to win. 4 players: control 35 to win. 3 players: control 40

    to win.

The Imperial Regalia consists of: the Silver Mirror, the Spirit Sword, and the Sacred

jewel. Possession of these items legitimizes the claim from a daimyo for the title of

    Shogun.

At the beginning of the game each player takes one of the Regalia Markers at random,

keeping their draws secret. The game then begins as normal. In a three player game,

each player has one item. In a four or five player game, one or two players will start

    without any Regalia items.

When a daimyo is lost, there is a chance that the player who caused that daimyo to be

removed, for whatever reason, may be able to take the losing players RegaliaMarker(s). For the first daimyo lost, roll 1 die. On a 3 or less, the losing player must

give up all Regalia Markers he has. For the second daimyo lost, on a 6 or less, the

losing player must give up all his Regalia Markers. When a player loses his last

daimyo, he must give up all Regalia Markers he has to the player who took him out.

The Ninja may be used to look at a players Regalia Markers, instead of Spying or

    Assassination.

To win the game, a player needs to take a certain number of provinces based on how

many items of he Imperial Regalia he has. All three Regalia 20 Provinces; Two

Regalia 25 Provinces; One Regalia 30 Provinces; No Regalia 35 Provinces.

    Optional Rules

Kyoto Occupancy One of the provinces required for victory must be Yamashiro, seat

of the Imperial Household (at Kyoto).

Mystical Regalia If all players agree, the Imperial Regalia items can have mystical

powers. When an items power is used, the Regalia marker must be revealed and

placed face up in front of the player. Silver Mirror: When a player uses the Ninja to spy

on other players, he may spy on two players instead of only one. Spirit Sword: In

battle, one of the players daimyo may roll twice in Step 4 of Phase C: Conduct

Combat. Sacred Jewel: In Action 9: Collect Koku, the player rolls 1 die and divides the

number rolled by 4 (round) up. The result is the number of extra koku the player gains.

Lost Regalia At the beginning of the game, deal out five Province cards. Place one

regalia marker (face down) on top of each card. Deal the rest of the Province cards out

normally. When a player moves an army into one of the provinces with a regalia

marker, the player may take the marker.
