beyond good and bad, where you no longer divide andseparate but accept everything with love and joy. Sucha place does exist and you are progressing towards
it. Many people understand the concept of livinga peaceful life but few have yet to experience it asreality. Tis is because the road to finding inner peaceinvolves experiencing change and some pain in orderto learn deep and powerful lessons.
Life is filled with lessons. From the moment weare born we begin to learn from our greatest oracles;our mothers. When a mother tells her child not totouch the flame, she knows in her heart that in orderto understand the power and danger of fire that childmust touch the flame. Te child hears the wisdom but
does not understand it. At first he trusts his motherand listens to her wisdom, never daring to reachout his hand. But the flame is so beautiful; it dancesand glows in a magical and mesmerising way. Techild thinks How can something of such beauty be
dangerous? Sooner or later curiosity will override allother thoughts and the hand enters the flame. Tepain is beyond imagining. Te child snatches its handback and screams in agony. Mother arrives with herspecial healing magic and lovingly nurtures her childback to a place of peace and harmony. Te child now
knows the wisdom of not touching the flame. How

can this be a bad thing? Certainly pain is not pleasant, but the wisdom that arises from painful experiencescan be of great value. Te wisdom of not touching
the flame will save that childs life a thousand timesover. It is the ability to make fire that raised us upabove the other animals, but fire can kill. Without thewisdom of not touching the flame, one would not livevery long. It is one thing to understand the concept ofdanger but quite another to have experienced danger
first hand. Life can be painful at times, but if we learnto embrace these challenging times with love and joy,we walk from the pain of experience into the pricelesswisdom of understanding.
Tere was a time, many tens of thousands of years
ago, when mankind was just another animal. It was atime when many of the creatures that we now knowof only in mythology actually existed in physical real-ity. At this time dragons ruled the world. Tey werethe guardians of the planet and held the energies of
creation in balance. But everything that has a begin-ning has an end; the time came for the reign of thedragons to cease. It then became the turn ofhumankind to watch over Mother Earth. As a part-ing gift, the dragons gave humans the knowledge ofthe power of fire. It was this power that has brought
us to these amazing times in which we now live.

What is even more amazing is that the dragons areback. Tey have returned to help us make the leap ofconsciousness that will bring our planet and all its
inhabitants up to this higher level of being. Dragonshave always been harbingers of change so it shouldbe no surprise that we feel attracted to their energyat this time. Tis Oracle connects you to the dragonenergy and in doing so enables you to start to un-derstand the power of change and the wisdom to be
found within it. Tis in turn will enable you to navi-gate through life with calmness and ease. Welcometo the world of the Imperial Dragon Oracle. Let itguide you through these changing times.

PARTONETHEWORLDOFDRAGONS
Te dragon is without doubt the most widespreadof all the guardian spirits of the earth. Te worddragon comes from the Greek drakon meaning theseeing one.
Most commonly depicted as a huge, bat-winged,fire-breathing, scaly serpent with a barbed tail, the
dragon has embodied since the dawn of time a power-ful, protective energy. Tese fearsome beasts were oftenseen as gatekeepers to other realities, and guardiansof treasure and spiritual wisdom. Tere is a commontheme throughout much of world mythology in which
the hero does battle with a dragon in order to securea hoard of treasure. Examples include the Greek heroJason, and the Celtic and Germanic heroes Arthur, ristram, Beowulf and Sigurd. In India, in the Nagaregion of Assam, the local tribes tell of dragons whomay assume human or half-human, half-reptile form.Tey are guardians of treasure, most notably pearls.
Links between dragons and pearls can be foundin many other cultures as well. Chinese dragons aredepicted with thunder pearls in their mouths thatthey spit out. In other traditions, dragon deities are
connected to the moon, the night-shining pearl or

the pearl of heaven as it is called in Mexico. Buddhistlegends from India and Japan tell of the preciouspearl that grants all desires that is obtained from a
sea-dragon.One of the earliest written records relating to drag-
ons comes from Herodotus, the Greek father of his-tory, in the 5th century . He describes the dragonas a creature of both water and land. He says it lays itseggs on the land and lives there during the daytime, while at night it lives in the water. Its claws are strongand the scaly skin on its back cannot be sundered. Some cultures depict the dragon as a serpent bornfrom a roosters egg incubated in manure, while otherssay it arose from the combining of a human or worm
with metal. Ancient Chinese sources say that dragonsare hatched from stones as snakes, or born from seaplants or aged pine trees.
In most traditions, dragons were intrinsically linkedto the natural world. Te Babylonian creation myth
tells of the she-dragon iamat, the mother of all thegods. When she was slain by her descendant, Marduk, the world was formed from her body. In India, thedrought-demon was a dragon that confined water. Itwas slain by the Vedic god Indra with a thunderboltbringing about the annual rainy season. In ancientEgypt, Osiris, the god of the underworld, kept a

dragon that he released once a year. Te dragon rose upfrom the underworld into the physical world causingthe annual flooding of the Nile River, creating the rich
and fertile flood plain. Some Chinese dragons are alsorain-bringers that sleep in pools during the winter (thedrought season) and arise in the spring to fight, caus-ing the thunder and lightening of the spring storms.
Te ancient Chinese art of feng shui determines thebest positions of buildings according to how the energyof the local dragons courses through the land. In Greekmythology, the fertility goddess Demeter rode a chariotdrawn by dragons and brought the knowledge ofagriculture to the people. References to fire-breathingdragons can be found in many Middle Eastern cultures
including the Egyptian fiery flying serpent and theLeviathan, which is graphically described in the Bookof Job in the Bible as follows:
His sneezes flash forth light and his eyes are likethe eyelids of the morning. Out of his mouth go burn-
ing torches; sparks of fire leap forth. Out of his nostrilssmoke goes forth, as from a boiling pot and burningrushes. His breath kindles coals and a flame goes forthfrom his mouth.
Tese evil dragons were considered symbols of deathand destruction. Te Greeks and Romans, althoughaccepting the Middle Eastern concept of dragons as a

dark power, also saw them as benevolent beings thatdwelt in the inner earth. However, over time the ideaof dragons as evil became dominant especially when
the church decided to link dragons to sin and pagan-ism. Te classic scene of a slain dragon at the feet of asaint or martyr was seen as symbolic of the Christianfight against the old religions. Te dragon has alsobeen long considered as a symbol of sovereignty forhumans, from the emperors of ancient China to the
tribal leaders of the Celtic and Germanic traditions.Dragons were also strongly linked to warfare. In
HomersIliad, King Agamemnon has on his shielda blue three-headed serpent. Likewise, the Vikingspainted dragons on their shields and carved dragons
heads on the prows of their ships. Up until the Nor-man Conquest in 1066, the dragon was the chief royalensign for war. It is said by some that this traditiondates back to the times of Uther Pendragon, the fatherof King Arthur. Even today the Prince of Wales has a
dragon as his symbol. So, although many people mightdismiss dragons as mere figments of the imagination, the truth is that they are still powerful symbols inmany lands.

DRAGONSINCELTICMYTHOLOGY
In Celtic lore, the word dragon refers to a variety offierce creatures that include worms, serpents, and rep-
tiles as well as the more traditional scaly, fire-breath-ing dragon, also known as fire drakes. Te arrival ofa dragon usually foretold of trouble, as in the story ofKing Arthur. Arthur dreamt of dragons the night ofMordreds conception. Mordred is said to derive frommor-draig meaning sea-dragon. Merlin foretold thatArthurs half sister, Morgause, would bear a son atBeltane (May Eve) who would destroy him and all hisfollowers. In Arthurs first dream he drove the dragonsout but was wounded in the process. In his last dreamhe is devoured by the dragons and is subsequently
killed in his next battle with Mordred. Te medievalArthurian tradition further links Arthur to dragonsthrough his father, Uther Pendragon, who had twodragons on his standard. Legend says that Arthur hada golden dragon on his battle standard and a dragon
crest on his helmet, though these details did notappear in the more ancient Celtic myth. One of the fullest accounts of dragons can be found
in Te Mabinogion, a collection of ancient Welsh tales. It speaks of two dragons that were the second ofthree plagues that befell Britain in the time of King
Lludd. According to the story, every year at the time

of Beltane, a terrible shriek was heard that struckterror in the hearts of everyone in the kingdom. KingLludd sought help from his brother Llevelys, the King
of France, who was known for his great counsel andwisdom. Llevelys explained that the shriek came fromthe Red Dragon of Britain that was being attacked bythe White Dragon of the Saxons, which was trying tooverthrow and destroy it.
Te dragons were trapped and buried together in
a stone coffin in the strongest place in Britain, DinasEmrys. Five hundred years later, King Vortigern repeat-edly attempted to build a tower at Dinas Emrys buteach night it fell down again. He was advised that theonly solution was to sacrifice a fatherless child on the
site. Te child selected was Myrddin, whose motherwas made pregnant by an incubus. However, Myrddinadvised Vortigern that the real cause of the problemwas the two dragons buried there. Myrddin released thedragons and enclosed them in a magical ring of stones. Finally the Red Dragon overcame the White Dragonand killed it. Ancient earthworks and traces of a ruinedtower can still be found at the site along with a circle oftumbled stones which is said to be the remains of themagical ring of stones created by Myrddin.
Another dragon tale from Scotland concerns Master
Stoorworm, a huge serpent that lived in the sea and

came ashore each night to eat. He ate vast amounts, and each morning he would yawn seven times. On theseventh time, his mouth would open and his tongue
would grasp seven things from the town includingpeople and cattle. Te king promised that anyone whocould slay the beast would have his daughters hand inmarriage and be given his famous sword.
Tirty-six warriors answered the call but all werefrightened away by the serpents venomous breath.
Te very same night that the warriors were scaredaway, a young local boy took an iron pot and somepeat and went down to the docks. Tere, he stole aboat and paddled out to meet the serpent. WhenStoorworm yawned the first time, Jamie was swept
inside the creatures mouth along with a great deal ofwater. Jamie paddled into the creatures body until hereached its liver. Tere he took the iron pot and usingthe peat, set a fire. As Stoorworm writhed in pain,Jamie paddled out the same way he had come in. Asthe creature struggled in pain, pieces of his body felloff. Te first time, some of his teeth fell out and thesebecame the Orkney Islands. Te second time, moreteeth fell out and became the Shetland Islands. Onthe third time his remaining teeth fell out and becamethe Faroe Islands. Finally, the creature died and his
crumpled body collapsed and became Iceland.

Te theme of dragons guarding treasure arises inthe story of the hero Peredur and the Black Worm ofthe Barrow. Te worm, or dragon, had a magical stone
in its tail and it was said that whoever held the stonein one hand would receive gold in the other. Peredurfought and slew the dragon and thus found both fameand fortune. In another story, Peredur fights and kills adragon that guards a golden ring. In the Welsh tradi-tion the dragon is linked to the warrior and the Welsh
worddragonwymeans fierce and brave. In moderntimes this term has evolved into dragoon, meaning acavalryman. Te Irish hero Fruach also fought a dragonthat lived in a lake and guarded a magical rowan tree. Each berry of the tree was said to provide sustenance
equivalent to nine meals.Te Druidic tradition links dragons to the power
of the land. Te Druids viewed the whole earth as thebody of the dragon with its veins carrying its bloodand hence nourishment throughout the lands. oday
we know these veins as ley lines or dragon lines, which are said to carry in them the lifeblood or energyof the land. Te concept of raising magical power fromthese energies is sometimes called invoking the eye ofthe dragon. Te dragon within the earth symbolizesthe deep unconscious within each of us that gives rise
to the flames of truth.

your mind on the ground beneath your feet. Feel theenergies of the earth grounding you and balancingyour body, mind and spirit. You can now use the powerof the four cardinal directions, the ancient energiesunderstood and used by our ancestors, to create asacred, protective energy in your cards. Stand facing
each direction and say a prayer of cleansing and bless-ing in your own words or by saying the following:
I call upon the energies of the north wind and thepower of the element of earth to cleanse these cardsfrom all negativity.
Next turn to the east and say: I call upon theenergies of the east wind and the power of the ele-ment of air to blow pure inspiration into these cards.
Now turn to the south and say: I call upon theenergies of the south wind and the element of fire to
protect these cards from ill will.urn to the west and say: I call upon the ener-

You are precious
and so is the Oracle. Tere is a deep interconnected-ness between you and the cards if you choose to openyour awareness to see and experience it.

IMPERIALDRAGONORACLE
It is no accident that there are 22 cards within thisOracle. In numerology, numbers that repeat them-selves such as 11, 22, 33, etc. are considered masternumbers and are said to hold special significance. Te
number 22 is regarded as a magnetic number. Tismeans that it holds the powers of yin and yang in per-fect balance and in doing so brings all things aroundit into balance. Te 22 cards of the Imperial DragonOracle are designed to help you find balance and har-
mony in your life; to act as a firm spiritual foundation

on which you can build a destiny that is happy, healthyand fulfilled. Te number 22 is connected to inspira-tion, revelation, power and determination. In arot, it
is the number of cards in the Major Arcana. Indeed, since the traditional names associated with the DragonOracles cards were inspired by the Major Arcana, theycan also be used for tarot readings.
In order to get to know the Oracle well, you needto study each card separately. One way to achieve thismight be to work with a different card each day. Ini-tially, it is best to work through the cards in the orderin which they come; so you would begin with TeSeeker, the card of new beginnings and unboundedpossibility. Set some time aside to read the meaning of
the card and perhaps to meditate with it. You mighteven like to sleep with the card under your pillow andnote any dreams that arise that night. Follow yourintuition and let each card reveal itself to you.
If you want a deeper experience, you might decide
to spend longer, perhaps a week, working with eachcard. During each week you would start your daymeditating with the card. You might keep a journal, noting any thoughts or feelings that arise during thesetimes. You could also ask the Oracle to give you anexperience with the cards energy. Allow yourself to beinspired by each card. For example, let the Dragon of

Creativity bring out your artistic side and the Dragonof Adversity inspire you to rise above whatever chal-lenges life might present you. Each card contains
within it a positive energy you can build upon in yourown life to allow you to find deeper levels of happinessand wisdom.
Once you have worked your way through the wholepack, begin choosing a different card at random eachday and see how it comments on what is unfolding inyour life. Te Oracle will not tell you the right way togo, because that would take away your personal respon-sibility and with it your freedom. What it does is openyour eyes to choices and perhaps to the possible conse-quences of your choices. Tis then allows you to make
an informed choice about how to proceed. When youchoose a card at random, you are not really making arandom choice. You are in fact following your intuitionbecause even a supposedly random selection is a choice, and what guides the choice is intuition. rust that each
card you pick is the right card for that moment. Openyour mind to the possibilities presented by each card. Ifyou work in this way your relationship with the Oraclewill blossom. Once you have become familiar with eachcard, you are ready to begin consulting the ImperialDragon Oracle about specific matters.

CONSULTINGTHEORACLE
Te Imperial Dragon Oracle is designed to act asa guide to your unfolding spiritual path. It will not
tell you what to do nor will it give you a yes or noanswer. Instead, the Oracle will comment upon agiven situation, providing insight into the energiessurrounding that situation. You can consult the Oraclewhenever you are unsure what to do or how to pro-ceed. You can also use it to show you what you needto be aware of in the immediate and long-term future.Te key to making the best use of the Oracle is a clearintent. Before casting the cards you need to have theissue you want to inquire about clearly in your mind.A clouded mind will produce unclear answers.
Te Oracle can be regarded as spiritual mirror. Letit show you certain things about yourself that youwill need to reflect upon and perhaps show you otherthings about yourself that you would otherwise findhard to see. If you have an open mind, the Oracle
will take you on a journey of self-discovery beyondyour imaginings.
THESINGLEDRAW
Imagine you are on a journey and you arrive at a
crossroads with no clear signposts. If you find yourself
-

21
in a situation and you dont know which way to go,consulting the Oracle will be like looking at a map.Te simplest way to do this is to draw a single card.
Start by holding the cards as you identify an inten-tion in your mind for which you want the Oracle toguide you. Shuffle the pack and then lay the cards outin front of you. Now you can look at the cards andallow yourself to be drawn to one in particular. Or,you can pass your hand over the cards until you feel
one card call out to your intuition. Having picked thecard, spend a few moments looking at it to see if anyrelevant thoughts arise. Now look up the meaning ofthe card, read it, and then consider the relevance ofwhat the Oracle is telling you. For instance, if you are
facing a challenging situation and draw the Adversitycard, the Oracle will be guiding you to meet that chal-lenge head on. Not only that, it will also talk about theenergies you need to overcome the challenge. However,if you draw the Solitaire card, the message would be totake a step back from the situation and seek the solu-tion by looking inward.
Another way to use the single draw is to choose acard as your guide for the day ahead. Tis is done inthe same manner as above, but with the intent that youwant the Oracle to show you the best energies to be
working with for that day. If you draw the Love card,
-
7/26/2019 Imperial Dragon Oracle Booklet
22/60
22
the Oracle will be guiding you to open your heart. Ifyou draw the emperance card, the message will beone of being open-minded; making clear decisions
and expecting the unexpected. Using the Oracle inthis manner is particularly helpful in increasing yourunderstanding and familiarity with the cards and theirmeanings. If the card you draw confuses you or you areunclear about its relevance, feel free to draw a secondcard for further clarification. For instance, you might
draw the Mischief card that guides us to be discerningand not slaves to the ideas of right and wrong. If thisconfuses you, you would then choose to draw a secondcard. If this card turned out to be the Gaia card, itwould be likely that you were being guided to watch
your own ego. Whenever you draw a second card it isimportant that you marry it up with the meaning ofthe first card rather than just looking at its meaning inisolation. Tis will guard against you rejecting readingsthat you do not like in favor of ones you feel morecomfortable with.
THETHREE-CARDDRAW
Imagine once more that you are on a journey and thatthis time you are in a vehicle. Suddenly, you come toa traffic jam. Wouldnt it be wonderful if you could
temporarily rise up into the air so that you could see
-

23
where you had been, where you were in relation to theother vehicles, and what was around the next corner?Tis is one way in which the three-card spread works.
It is very useful for putting issues into perspective andplacing them in the context of your unfolding spiritualpath. Whenever you feel stuck, take the cards and askthem to show you a bigger picture. Shuffle the cardsand lay them in front of you as before, but this timepick three cards to comment on the past, the present,
and the future.
Card 1 Card 2 Card 3
HE PAS HE PRESEN HE FUURE
Te first card you draw relates to the recent past;those events or lessons that have led you to this pointin time. Te second card comments on the lesson you
need to learn from the situation or issue in order toallow you to move forward. Te third card commentson the possible outcome of the situation provided thatyou have fully learned the lesson shown by the secondcard. When you draw the cards, place them down asyou find them. Do not be tempted to alter reversed
cards. Reversed cards do not have negative meanings
-

24
but rather, positive guidance on what kind of situationsor states of mind to avoid. If we go back to our analogyof being in a traffic jam, a reversed meaning might be
like seeing a sign for a diversion ahead. You would befoolish to ignore it just because you do not like diver-sions. Study each card one at a time and understandits message before moving on to the next one. If partof the reading is unclear, you can always draw an extracard with the intent of clarifying the reading.
THECARDINALSPREAD
Sometimes issues are more complex and needto be looked at in greater depth for a full understand-ing. Tis is where the Cardinal Spread is useful. Tisfive-card spread draws on the energies of the fourcardinal directions to help you gain a full perspec-tive on a situation. Start by clearly formulating thequestion or issue in your mind. Shuffle the pack andthen draw five cards, one at a time, placing them as
follows: the first in the north, the second in the east, the third in the south, the fourth in the west, and thefifth in the center.
Te meaning of each card is as follows:

Te Interpretation Te Seeker card showedRichard that the root of this issue was a need to walkinto something new that would expand his possibili-
ties. Tis fit in with his motivation behind looking tochange jobs. Te second card, Solitaire, made it quiteclear that he would only find the answers he was seek-ing by stepping back from the situation and lookingat it objectively. After drawing this card he decided towrite a list of pros and cons for each job to help him
look at their relative merits more clearly. From this, itbecame obvious that the only real attraction in stayingwith his current employers was the extra money theywere offering him.
Te third card, Mischief, warned him to be discern-
ing and to realize what was really important in his life. After meditating with this card he realized that happi-ness and a new challenge were more important to himthan money. Te fourth card, emperance reversed, warned him to be wary of his emotions and from this
he recognized that greed should not be allowed tobend his judgment. Te final card, Rebirth, showedhim that he had the opportunity to achieve dramaticand complete change. After considering all the cards,he decided to leave his company and take the new jobthat had a lower salary but many more opportunities
