the top soil, in order to leave the land

in similar way what it was like before

the work began.

But…

• This only happens when the mine

is small…and…

• When the mining company is

forced to abide by strict rules.

#2.• Old quarries and large holes left after

mining stopped are often convenient

places for the disposal of waste.

• For e.g:

–Landfilling : which is a cheap and easy

way to dispose of waste

• The amount of waste to be disposed in

developed countries can be enormous.

• The waste is tipped into the hole; from

time to time it is leveled off and

compacted.

• When full, the land can be reclaimed for

other uses, as:

– Forestry, farming or recreation.

• Disposal of waste in landfill sites needs

to be managed, otherwise, it contaminates

the land and become a hazard to the

health of people living and the workers in

surrounding area.
