Youth With A Mission Tuen Mun, Hong Kong is a group of dedicated individuals from 10 different nations who have come together to serve Hong Kong and Asia with one heart. YWAM Tuen Mun is a Hong Kong branch of Youth With A Mission (YWAM), an international, interdenominational missions organization.
YWAM Tuen Mun is called to proclaim hope and provide comfort to all by mobilizing all generations to display God’s beauty through the arts, empowering the marginalized, and reaching the all.
We delight in creativity. We believe that creativity can birth something that brings life and speaks truth.
We care for the needy. Our heart is to bring holistic care to those overlooked in society by meeting physical, emotional and spiritual needs.
We invest in development. We believe that the greatest investment we can make is into an individual’s life. As such, sowing the seeds of the Gospel and cultivation of character are a driving force behind much of what we do.
Who We Are
Faces are often obscured when we look
at statistics. Our heart is to see each person
as an individual, not a mere number. God
loves each of these people and has given us an
avenue to speak a message of hope into their
lives, whether it is through education, a bag of
food, a conversation or a smile.
Ever since we started our food bank in 2012, we have witnessed an increase in our capacity to handle food and goods, delivering them to those in need. From canned items to frozen food, clothing to toiletries and more, the assortment of items we have receive enable us to feed and clothe many in our community.
YWAM Tuen Mun Food Bank
In 2018, we started a partnership with Soap Cycling to provide a constant supply of soap and shampoo to recipients of our local feeding program, Helping Hands.
The next year, our feeding program model was picked up by a local church in Tuen Mun in their desire to reach out to the community, especially the cardboard collectors and elderly.
In light of growth, we took a big step forward by securing a new facility for our food bank and community outreach in 2019. This space enables us to receive more local volunteers, to handle a larger in and out flow of food and goods, and also to invite our community beneficiaries in for programs.
There is something significant about someone opening up their home to us. It is an act of trust and welcome. Having invested into the lives of the elderly enrolled in our Helping Hands program, it is a joy to be invited into their homes as it gives us a greater glimpse into their lives, struggles, concerns and worries.
During a home visit, one woman who lives in a one-room flat confided her struggles to us. She is widowed and takes care of a son with special needs. Although she has four children, they do not visit her. “It’s better to have less children. They only cause sorrow,” she says. Her story is just one out of the many lives we touch every Friday.
We conduct home visits to show the elderly that there are people who care and are interested to know about their lives and journey. One encouraging episode was seeing a man with pain in his body healed after being prayed for! It is our desire to witness and celebrate these victories in the lives of our recipients.

Over the past two years, we have been developing our Poverty Simulation program, a platform designed to help people step into the shoes of those who struggle with lack on a daily basis. Through the use of drama, discussion, activities, and role play, our poverty simulation program allows participants to experience the difficult decisions those living in poverty make on a daily basis. At the end of our time, participants are also given the opportunity to meet these people and hand out bags of food to them.
We have facilitated the Poverty Simulation for different schools, churches, and teams. The feedback from participants has been most surprising to us:
Putting Yourself in the Shoes of the Marginalized
“I knew about the existence of poverty in Hong Kong previously, but coming into personal contact with these people in real life made a big impression in my mind and what I can do to help.”5,600+
people fed per month
“This experience has put a personal face to poverty, beyond just numbers.”
“It made me realize just how hopeless it may feel, and I know I not only want to do something about it, but that I will.”

A Place for the Nations at YWAM Tuen Mun!
In addition to all that God is doing in our ministry, we have also been receiving short-term mission teams. Over the past two years, we have hosted church, school and outreach teams from Panama, the USA, South Korea, Singapore, Japan and the Netherlands.
Each team brings a unique flavor in their ministry to our beneficiaries and charity partners. The teams join our regular outreaches – visiting the elderly, picking up, sorting and distributing food at our food bank, teaching baking classes to the families that we serve and much more!
If you have a group that would like to experience missions in an urban setting or serve this city, we welcome you to bring your teams here and gain God’s heart for Hong Kong!
In 2018, the Bible Core Course ran with participants from four different nations. This 3-month course gave each person a deeper understanding of the Word of God through inductive study and research, as well as a new perspective of it.
Through in-depth reading, interpreting, and applying the text, they not only practiced what they gleaned in personal study, but shared these precious truths to university students as they led Bible studies at our Campus Ministry.

He has shown me that I can trust him at all times. He showed me his love for me and for the people here in Tuen Mun. He taught me how I can serve him. Here in Tuen Mun I decided to follow him forever.

In January 2019, the Discipleship Training Program (DTS) commenced with participants from seven different nations committed to growing in their relationship with God. After the initial three months in Hong Kong where they learned about topics like the Character of God, Spiritual Warfare, Relationships and Missions, they were sent to the harvest fields of Thailand, Cambodia and Singapore to share the Gospel.
The team had a powerful time of ministry in Asia, ministering to children in the villages of Cambodia, serving at the Celebration of Hope evangelistic rally in Singapore, and running an English camp in Thailand, to name some of their ministries. Most importantly, the students came back with their lives transformed and a heart willing to follow wherever Christ would lead.
Discipleship Training Program (DTS)
Bible Core Course
Before I came to DTS, I really felt like God was very distant. I only knew about God through other’s stories. But when I came to DTS, I felt like everything I thought about God changed, because for the first time I could talk to Him and hear His voice and have a relationship with Him. Through the DTS, He taught me a lot about Him and who I am through Him. - Natalie, USA
We have been investing into the youth of Hong Kong by accepting invitations to minister in schools.
One partnership in particular with ELCHK Lutheran Academy, has allowed us to conduct Easter and Christmas school assemblies, Christian fellowship meetings, and a summer camp for the students. Also, they have invited us to impart Biblical truth at their staff retreats for the last two years.
Investing into the youth plays an integral part in the discipleship of a nation as it shapes the next generation of leaders in this city. Through our youth camps and opportunities with different schools, we continue to train up these children in the way they should go.
Youth Camps & Impacting the Education Sector
This camp was run in conjunction with Noah’s Ark as a day camp for underprivileged children spread over five Saturdays. Utilizing topics like theater, costume design, etiquette and dance, we engaged the children to teach them English and prepare a performance in just one day! We saw many participants sign up for more than one camp during this time.
Run at St. Andrew’s Church, we taught children what it means to experience Jesus through the “Journey with Jesus” theme. Using different stories, the children learned how Jesus can transform their lives. During the camp, 21 children accepted Christ as their Lord and Savior. Not only that but the children led 25 elderly to Christ as they performed, shared the Gospel, and gave away Blessing Bags at their closing outreach!
The DREAM Camp, which is run with Noah’s Ark and the Rainbow Foundation, utilizes performing arts to teach English to underprivileged children. The camp involves teaching assistants from the Diocesan Girls’ High School, Brown University, University of St. Andrews, and St. Stephen’s College. Through the process of creating their own costumes, memorizing a script and learning dance choreography, the students grow in confidence and are transformed in the five days with us. The camps culminate in a final performance where the children perform on stage in front of their parents and teachers. Some parents have expressed their surprise when they hear their children speak English on stage!
We partnered with Ambassador Assembly Church, a local church in Tuen Mun, to run a performing arts Bible camp called Step Up Camp. Children from our Helping Hands program joined this camp and some accepted Christ! After the camp, they have been coming to help distribute food at our feeding program. What a joy to witness!

On the first day, most of the kids were nervous and afraid to speak English. Over five days,
they warmed up and got over their fear of using English. With confidence, they participated in
classes, conversed with each other in English and most importantly cultivated new friendships.

Life in university can be challenging and lonely. Our campus ministry desires to give the students a sense of community and belonging.
Through our English Corners and Streams Bible community at Lingnan University, we witnessed 12 decisions for Christ over the last two years. At campus ministry, we aim to create a loving family atmosphere to welcome both local and international students. Volunteers from Ambassador Assembly Church have also been joining our program regularly to provide a church family where students can plug into.
Recently, one student who accepted Christ during the fall semester recently told us that he no longer has any desire to lie. Instead he has greater love and patience for those around him. It is a privilege to disciple this generation and see God bring change and transformation!

Performing arts have the special ability to speak hope and peace to those who receive the message. We are blessed to have many open doors to express and share the Good News in varying sectors of society in Hong Kong and Asia.

In September 2018, we joined the global YWAM family in Pattaya, Thailand, for YWAM Together. This event saw the coming together of 4,000 international delegates.
For this event, our media team was tasked with designing a 20-meter stage backdrop. Through the backdrop, lighting, and stage elements, we sought to express the theme from Revelations 4:1: “Come Up Here.” Although we faced challenges in the process, the grace of God carried us and enabled us to set the stage for the event.
YWAM Tuen Mun also had the privilege of opening the event with a cultural redemption piece to usher in the presence of the Holy Spirit and proclaim victory.
A highlight was Shine Pattaya, a day of outreach to the city. Our team was part of the overseers organizing the outreach, allocating 4,000 missionaries into 325 teams, going to do different ministry all over the city – from red light districts to schools, from prisons to homes and more. These missionaries went out ministering through sports, mercy, art, worship, intercession and Bible distribution to
shine God’s light into the darkness. 70,000 copies of the Gospel of Luke were given away. It was a lot of hours of work and many spreadsheets but the reward of seeing this city changed made it all worth it!
Shortly after, one of the pastors said, “Last Wednesday was a historic day for Pattaya. I’ve been here for 30 years. What a significant day for all of us who have invested in this land. I don’t think you guys fully understand what God has done by having 4,000 people bathing this city with God.”
After Shine Pattaya, multiple long-term pastors and ministries in the city said that the streets felt clearer and wider. They realized that God had cleared away much of the enemy's oppression hanging over the city and the city itself felt different!
YWAM Together
We have seen incredible fruit through our Mission Adventures program. Mission Adventures is a full-service short term missions program where participants or teams come to get equipped with creative tools to share the Gospel before being sent out to do ministry in Hong Kong. What makes this program effective is how it empowers young people to see their potential and to recognize that God is ready to use them. At times we think we need to take huge steps of faith to serve, but God simply requires smalls steps on our part to use us to be a blessing to others.
In 2018, we had churches from Singapore send teams for Mission Adventures during the Christmas season. These teams went to the streets to minister to street sleepers, reached students through school assemblies, threw parties for the community, and gave food away to the elderly-at-risk and underprivileged families.
Mission Adventures
I think that everyone should have this opportunity to really experience God in how you can share the Gospel with other people and to feel what’s on God’s heart – to know and to see how God sees and knows His people.

Our Partners and Volunteers
An invaluable asset to our ministry have been the local and international volunteers who give their time to serve with us. Along with our faithful volunteers that come every Friday and Tuesday night to help give food away at Helping Hands, we also have volunteers coming to help with translation, children’s ministry, and food distribution at other outreaches. We are grateful for each of their investments of time, service and smiles!
Our work here in Hong Kong would not be possible without them and has been enriched because of them.
