    The IMO OptiLine series is making waves within the

    marine industry. Innovative technology eaturing

    magnetic couplings drastically reduces wear as well as

    These chanes have led to inceased wea on mechanical

    seals, pimail in the booste pmps/booste modles.

    times pe ea. This means inceased maintenance and

    costs o the vessels.

    AUTHORITIES REQUIRE CLEAN ENGINE ROOMS

    THE STORY: IMO OPTILINE WAS INSTALLED

    IN AN F.O. bOOSTER APPLICATION IN 2004.

    Tae a closer looTo really achieve efciency in pumping oil, we needed

    a re-examination o how oil was pumped. The challenge

    was then to remove any problem areas.

    The solution: IMO OptiLine.

    FULLY ENCLOSED

    The taditional mechanicall sealed pmp has an inhe-

    ent desin faw: the pmped liqid is sed to lbicate the

    seal, which eslts in oil leain thoh the seal.

    To avoid this poblem, we needed to desin a pmp

    with no mechanical seal, sas And Bestm,

    Chie Technical Oce at IMO AB. The soltion was

    a pmp with a completel sealed pmpin chambe.

    Powe is tansmitted om the moto to the pmps oto

    set via pemanent manets. Instead o the taditional seal

    and coplin, the oto shat is eqipped with pemanent

    manets. The oto shat is then sealed inside a non-

    manetic can. No oil can lea thoh this can. On

    the ote atmospheic side o the can, an ote oto withpemanent manets is copled to the dive. With no

    slidin contact seals, thee is no wa o oil to escape.

    NO NEED FOR EXTERNAL COOLING

    The manetic coplin o the IMO OptiLine pmp is

    desined to withstand tempeates o p to 350 withot

    isin nction. A small action o the pmp low is

    diveted bac into the inne side o the manetic coplin

    and then etned to the pmp inlet. The minimal loss

    o low has no pactical impact bt emoves the heat

    eneated in the coplin. As a eslt, thee is no need o

    an etenal coolin, and the connectin ame can be

    sealed to avoid dst jammin the manetic coplin on the

    atmospheic side.

    HIGH TORQUE PERFORMANCE MAGNETS

    The manets in IMO OptiLine pmps ae dimensioned

    and ve well sited o the hashest nnin conditions

    in tems o hih viscosities.

    The IMO OptiLine is eqipped with steam tacin. This maes

    it possible to connect the pmp to the booste sstems

    eistin heat tacin with steam, hot wate o themal oil.
