ENGN 0260 Mechanical
Technology
Basic machine shop
course that, with the help
of an instructor, teaches
students how to fabricate
a few simple objects
using hand tools and
basic machines. This
course is designed to
introduce the student to
the machining process
and environment.
Mechanical Technology II
MTII is a more extensive machine shop course
designed to teach machine shop practices, the use of
hand tools, and safety in the shop. Students learn how
to setup and operate milling machines, lathes,
bandsaws, grinders, and sheet metal equipment. They
fabricate projects of varying degrees of difficulty. Upon
successful completion of this course, students are given
permission to use the JEPIS student shop to develop
ideas or a manufacturing process for projects or
experiments related to studies.
JEPIS Main Shop
• Two Bridgeport Knee Mills
• One 3-axis CNC Knee Mill
• One 2-axis CNC Knee Mill
• One 3-axis CNC Bed Mill
• Three lathes
• Drill presses
• Hydraulic press
• Band saws
Engineering Project: Threaded end
caps for a vacuum compression seal
on a glass tube. Brass ends have an
o-ring inside for sealing and the
stainless steel caps have welded on
fittings. Prof. Angus Kingon
Head implants for Neuroscience, Prof.
Sheinberg. An ABS prototype was cast
in the SLA machine in the Eng. Depart.
The final implants were made from
Peek material. An aluminum fixture
was fabricated to machine the shape of
the legs. Prof. David Sheinberg
Physics Project: Sub assembly for BLAST
project. Prof. Gregory Tucker
