Cecilia Carbone Immodest Proposal Professor Brown UWRT 1103 3/30/2015 The issue on over population in animal shelters I know a big issue for animal shelters is the over amount of dogs that come in, because of this many dogs get put down at particular shelters because of the lack of resources they have to take care of them It’s interesting because this has been an issue for a while. I want to learn what it used to be like, how the issue has improved since then, and main reason it hasn’t been fully resolved. I know one reason over population happens is because of people not spaying and neutering their pets and also people adopting puppies because they’re cute and then realize how much work they are and give them up. I expect to find research sources because this is a big issue and this topic has a lot to do with my field work. This idea is worthy of approving because it’s a serious issue. Many people don’t realize that when they adopt a dog it’s their responsibility to train it properly and make sure to neuter or spay it. People don’t realize the consequences of their careless actions with their dogs. I hope to learn that this problem is on the road to being resolved. I hope maybe if I’m more educated on this subject I can pass the information along. I know a lot of college kids going out and getting puppies and I feel like not all these students realize the massive responsibility it is to have a puppy. I don’t want any of these dogs I see around campus being taken into a shelter because the owner realized they’re not ready for the responsibility.

I want to learn what it used to be like, how the issue has improved since then, and main reason it hasnt been fully resolved. I know one reason over population happens is because of people not spaying and neutering their pets and also people adopting puppies because theyre cute and then realize how much work they are and give them up. I expect to find research sources because this is a big issue and this topic has a lot to do with my field work. This idea is worthy of approving because its a serious issue. Many people dont realize that when they adopt a dog its their responsibility to train it properly and make sure to neuter or spay it. People dont realize the consequences of their careless actions with their dogs. I hope to learn that this problem is on the road to being resolved. I hope maybe if Im more educated on this subject I can pass the information along. I know a lot of college kids going out and getting puppies and I feel like not all these students realize the massive responsibility it is to have a puppy. I dont want any of these dogs I see around campus being taken into a shelter because the owner realized theyre not ready for the responsibility. My back-up plan is to research about pit bulls having a reputation of being an aggressive and mean dog.
