Mes chers amis, On this feast of Our Lord’s Ascension into Heaven, we celebrate the fact that humanity - our human nature - is forever united to God and in His holy presence. This great mystery gives us hope…that we who are Christ’s body - will one day be fully joined to Him, the Head. As the Apostles watched Our Lord ascend into the skies, they heard Him tell them to wait for His Father to fulfill the promised gift of the Holy Spirit. And so, as the Acts of the Apostles tells us, they gathered with Our Lady in the Upper Room with great faith. On this Solemnity of the Ascension, our gaze is directed toward the great feast of Pentecost. Let us fix our gaze to Heaven where Christ Jesus is ascended, and with Our Lady’s powerful intercession, we prepare our hearts to receive the gifts of the Holy Spirit anew. Come, Holy Spirit, come by the means of the powerful intercession of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, your well-beloved spouse! It was so great to be able to return to the church for Holy Mass last weekend. We must always remember the grace of being able to join together for Sacred Worship in the church and do so with love as faithfully as we can. We can’t ever take it for granted, as I hope we learned during the Quarantine. In two weeks, we will welcome Stephen Melancon, our Seminarian who will serve IHM this summer. Please keep him and all of the other Seminarians of our Diocese in your prayers as they finish the academic year in the seminary and prepare to serve in Parishes for the summer. Dans le Coeur Immaculé de Marie, Fr. Vidrine
Gospel Summary (Matthew 28: 16-20)
The Gospel reading today concludes the Book of Matthew. It was at this point that Jesus, knowing he was about to return to the Father, commissioned the apostles to carry the message of
the Good News into the whole world. They would baptize, make more disciples, and teach the message Jesus had taught them. Jesus made it clear that his ascension did not mark an
absence; he would always be with them. This Gospel message is the foundation of the Church and makes clear what we are
called to do and be.
Reflection for Families
We don’t need to go to the four corners of the earth to be missionaries. We are called as parents to the same mission as the apostles. We are the first and most significant teachers of our children. We bring them to baptism and show them the
Good News. Not only our actions speak to our children about what we believe and how we hope they live Christian lives,
but our efforts to prepare them for the sacraments and come to the Lord’s table every week helps them know the full depth of
our faith.
Bringing the Gospel Into Your Family
During the past weeks we have been reminded often by Jesus that he will not leave us alone. Sometimes it’s hard to explain
to children where someone is who we can’t see. Like the people in the early Church we have faith, but we also have
doubt. As if it were a scavenger hunt, let family members look for places they find Jesus this week. In what way can your
family help others know Jesus’ presence?

IHM SUMMER SEMINARIAN!
Stephen Melancon is the son of Randy and Ponnie Melancon and a native of Parks. He has nine siblings, 6 boys and 3 girls. After graduating from
John Paul the Great Academy in Lafayette, he decided to enter St. Joseph Seminary College (St. Ben’s) in Covington, LA as a Seminarian for the Diocese of Lafayette. He is sponsored by St. Joseph Church in Parks. Stephen just completed his second year of
discernment and formation at St. Ben’s. We look forward to him serving at IHM this summer! __________________________________________________ CATECHISM… “Our Father Who Art In Heaven”…”Father!”… Second, a humble and trusting heart that enables us “to turn and become like children”: for it is to “little children” that the Father is revealed. {The prayer is accomplished} by the contemplation of God alone, and by the warmth of love, through which the soul, molded and directed to love him, speaks very familiarly to God as to its own Father with special devotion. Our Father: at this name love is aroused in us…and the confidence of obtaining what we are about to ask…What would he not give to his children who ask, since he has already granted them the gift of being his children.
