GETTING THE MOST OUT OF LENT BY POPE FRANCIS
• Prayer “In the face of so many wounds that hurt us and could harden our hearts, we are called to dive into the sea of prayer, which is the sea of God’s boundless love, to taste his tenderness. Lent is a time of prayer, of more intense prayer, more prolonged, more assiduous, more able to take on the needs of the brethren; intercessory prayer, to intercede before God for the many situations of poverty and suffering.”
• Almsgiving “Today gratuitousness is often not part of daily life where everything is bought and sold. Everything is calculated and measured. Almsgiving helps us to experience giving freely, which leads to freedom from the obsession of possessing from the fear of losing what we have, from the sadness of one who does not wish to share his wealth with others.”
• Evangelize “The Lord asks us to be joyous heralds of this message of mercy and hope! It is thrilling to experience the joy of spreading this good news, sharing the treasure entrusted to us, consoling broken hearts and offering hope to our brothers and sisters experiencing darkness.”
More suggestions by our Holy Father, Pope Francis to come in next weeks bulletin! Stay tuned!

A REMINDER OF THE CHURCH’S LENTEN REGULATIONS
Abstinence — Catholics over 14 years of age are bound to the obligation of abstinence. Abstinence is to be observed on Ash Wednesday and on all Fridays of Lent. On days of abstinence, meat may not be used at all. Fast — Catholics over 18 and up to the beginning of their 60th year are bound to the obligation of fasting. Ash Wednesday and Good Friday are the days of fasting. On these days, only one full meal is allowed. Two other meatless meals, sufficient to maintain strength, may be taken according to each one’s needs, but together they should not equal another full meal. Eating between meals is not permitted, but liquids, including milk and fruit juice are allowed.
THE OFFICE OF TENEBRAE: ‘THE SERVICE OF SHADOWS’
On Palm Sunday Evening, April 9, at 7:00 PM the parish will be celebrating Tenebrae in preparation for Holy Week. But what is Tenebrae? Tenebrae Is a Latin word meaning “shadows” or “darkness”. It is a special form of prayer that was originally prayed on Good Friday. The service is similar to vespers, which we have been celebrating on Sun-day afternoons, but this is dramatically marked by the extinguishing of the church lights and of the candles placed on the Altar, that plunges the Church into darkness, combined with readings from Sacred Scripture, including the Book of Lamentations. This service reminds us all that without Christ our Light, we would live in the shadow of darkness. Please join us, if you can, for this wonderful liturgy in preparation for Holy Week and Easter.
