This Week at Immaculate Conception

Dear Friends in Christ, My sincere thanks to everyone who worked so very hard for months to make our Fall Festival so

much fun! The Jubilee of Mercy will begin next month on the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception, and the official commencement of the Jubilee will occur in Rome when Pope Francis opens the Holy Door of St. Peter’s Basilica. Jubilees have been kept in the Church since the year 1300, and they regularly occur every 25 or 50 years following the Jewish custom of keeping a special time of forgiveness of sins and debts every 50 years. One standard feature of Jubilee pilgrimages to Rome is the custom of passing into the four papal basilicas through the Holy Door at each church—a door which is opened only for this purpose during Jubilee years. And this practice, in turn, comes from the Lord Jesus who said, “I am the door,” to signify that only through Christ can we come to God the Father. (John 10:7) Because the Lord Jesus is the Way, the Truth, and the Life, we must pass through Him to obtain everlasting life, and this begins in us at Baptism, through which we enter the Church as through a door. Archbishop Kurtz has designated that both the Cathedral of the Assumption in Louisville and the Basilica of St. Joseph in Bardstown are Holy Doors. There will also be a number of other events surrounding this Jubilee Year of Mercy. The Sacrament of Reconciliation will be at the forefront of all our celebrations. The Angel Tree will be available November 21/22! Next weekend is the Feast of Christ the King!!! And, as a little reminder:

11 days until Thanksgiving! 14 days until the First Sunday of Advent!

22 days until the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception! 39 days until Christmas!

SECOND COLLECTION NEXT WEEKEND! Next week, our parish will take up the annual collection for the Catholic Campaign for Human Development. CCHD was founded to end the cycle of poverty in the U.S. by funding organizations that help people help themselves. With the tradition of improving education, housing, and economic development, CCHD continues to make a positive impact in communities nationwide. Your contribution will defend human dignity and empower those living on the margins of our society. Thank you for your prayerful donation.

Blankets for the Homeless Blankets are needed for the poor and homeless at the Franciscan Kitchen in Louisville. Please donate new, or clean, gently used blankets that will be given out for Christmas. Our goal is to collect 500 blankets, reflecting the number who visit this facility every day. The blankets can be placed in the designated box in the narthex.

K OF C TOY DRIVE The Knights of Columbus will again

sponsor a Christmas Toy Drive in care of the Agape Shop. Please bring new or gently used toys and drop them in the

boxes provided in the narthex during the month of November. The toys will be

delivered to the Agape Shop on December 1 and will be available to their

customers shortly thereafter.

Our annual Family Advent Wreath Workshop is Sunday, November 22, in the Marian Center,

12:00 Noon until 3:00 p.m. This year we are introducing a new feature:

A Potluck Lunch!! We provide all the materials for making an

Advent wreath, including the candles! You provide a crock of your family-favorite soup,

or a scrumptious snack. Result: lots of fun, food and fellowship with

some wonderful people!! A $5.00 donation helps cover the cost of materials.
