THE MOST HOLY TRINITY
My dear sisters and brothers,
Our Bishop, Kevin Rhoades was here on Sunday, 7 June, to Confirm our young members (8th grade students) and those of Saint Joseph, Garrett. Our thanks to our Bishop and our Congratulations to those who received the Sacrament of Confirmation. Their names appear on the front page of this bulletin.
This is Trinity Sunday and I would try to help you to understand the mystery of the Trinity, but, I can’t explain it, I can only have faith that it is the truth and it is a mystery. You can try to investigate the Trinity and postulate a theory about how it works, but, you will always seem to be trying and not succeeding. I can only say that when Jesus says to us that He is in the Father and the Father is in him, and that an advocate, i.e. paraclete, will be sent to you when he leaves, we can only make that leap of faith that there are three persons and we know that there is only ONE God. Can’t explain it! I can only describe the clues in the Sacred Scriptures.
We celebrated the coming of the Holy Spirit and now we simply celebrate the wholeness of our God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
Do you feel like there is a new “normal”? I am beside myself with defensiveness concerning the NEW normal. There are many things I could say about it, but it is about ‘change’. No one likes to change. Some changes are easy, and some are not. When it comes to liturgical change, we have all been through it before when we emerged from the Latin era into the vernacular reality. After the major change into English for liturgical praxis, many minor changes occurred along the years. [e.g. communion in the hand, sharing a common cup (chalice), truly wishing peace each other, and talking during Mass.] The changes were met with some wide acceptance and some members of the Church fight them even to this day. I am probably, at this juncture in my life, not looking for a new normal, but will probably have to accept what comes as a result of the coronavirus. I have to admit that we are all flexible in some ways and we just need to roll with what comes. I simply pray that the changes will not be huge.
I am going to be authorizing the replacement of our bell system in the very near future. The cost will be nearly $15,000. If you can help defray the cost, please do so soon. The new system is supposed to be easier to operate, i.e. from the neophyte point of view. I look forward to hearing the peeling of the bells in the winds, chiming the hours.
Push on my dear ones. I look forward to seeing everyone returning at some point to celebrating the Holy Mass with me on Saturday evening or on Sunday Mornings.
