image manipulation
TRANSCRIPT
This was the mid-shot I originally taken and proposed to use for my front
cover. I initially liked this image as I thought it looked professional and
showed the guitar, which adds to the magazine’s alternative feel, however I
later changed my mind as I found that I over manipulated the models
appearance so she appeared too ‘well-done’ which distracts from the
purpose of the magazine of music and not fashion or beauty.
This shot is a close-up I took for the front cover of my magazine. Although this wasn’t my first initial choice, I thought that the pose and angle of the shot suited the alternative genre of my magazine better than the first, and thought the photo itself was more striking and would
catch the eye more than a mid-shot. I made her hair lighter, skin clearer and eyes brighter through the use of the pen and selection tool. I also used this technique to make her lips redder to highlight the other red text on the page. Furthermore I made the model appear to have long black nails to contrast with the other dark colours on the page and to an alternative feel.
This was one of the few long shots I took during the process. I included
this in my contents page as I believed the shape of it would fit well
into my original layout ideas. In addition to this I chose to use this
photo as the prop of the guitar adds the musical element to the
images so they didn’t appear to ‘fashion’ and style rather than the
magazines real purpose.
This shot is a mid-shot that I originally planned to use for my Double Page
Spread. I manipulated the photo as I made the guitar appear a darker
red, her lips the same colour and lightened the colour of the dress so it
looked more similar to the colour on the front cover to add a continuity to
my pieces. Despite this, I decided not to use the image as again I felt I had
over-manipulated the image and I wasn’t as pleased with the models
stance as she looks quite awkward.
I originally thought I would use this image as part of my Double Page
Spread piece as I thought I could easily blend the white curtains into a
white background. I edited the image again for the dress to appear a
more aqua colour, made the whites of my models eyes brighter and
edited her lips to make them red. I also changed the hue/saturation
of the image to appear more warm to fit into the rest of my pieces but
again I went off this image and decided not to use it.
This image I liked and also planned on using for My double page
spread. I thought in this picture the model didn’t look as awkward as
the others before and I liked way it was from her waist upwards and
the majority of the shot was taken up by her hair and face. I made the
image appear darker, and her lips again more red and hair and dress
lighter for continuity and to appear more striking and to stand out on
the page.
This image is the photo I decided to ultimately choose for my double
page spread. I really liked the angle of this shot and the natural
expression from the model that does not appear too posed and unlike
the front cover image she is not directly looking into the camera so
this image shows a variety. I made the image again tint to a darker
shade whilst I made the lips redder, skin clearer, hair and dress lighter
and the teeth whiter.
