Marykate Kenny Image Analysis This image is of the band ‘The 1975’. They are all dressed in the similar style of black jeans and black leather jackets or coats. The lightening within the image is very low key, and the image is in black and white which fits in with the bands black and white theme/style that they have. They are positioned in almost a straight line with the lead singer breaking the symmetry in the image as he is slightly more forward and more central in the image; this makes an informal design balance which emphasises the rebellious nature and attitude of the lead singer. None of the band are looking directly at the camera, the look and their body language show us they are disinterested in what’s going on.

Image Analysis

This image is of the band ‘The 1975’.

The mise en scene of this image resembles an earlier image of the band ‘joy division’ who were a rock band also from Manchester. They have taken some inspiration from their image.

This photo of Beyoncé has very bright high key lighting on her, and a dark low key background which indicates her importance. She’s pulling a fierce facial expression which I think represents the sort of artist she is. The shiny red lipstick and red nail varnish brings a provocative ‘sexy’ feel to the image also as red has connotations of sex and danger.

On her head she is wearing a large golden coloured crown and golden necklaces and jewels around her neck. The crown could be symbolising the high status and respect she has in the music industry.

This image is of pop star Ariana Grande. In contrast to the other images, the colours within the image are light pink and white which is more feminine, which would appeal more to her target audience of mostly teenage girls. The image has very high key lighting and her natural make up portrays her as innocent looking which also represents the sort of music she makes which Is teen pop. Her outfit reflects her age as she is modestly dressed and is appropriate for her target audience. She looks like the typical American girl which makes her more relatable.

This image is of country/pop singer Taylor Swift. The high key lighting and soft pastel colours within the image look natural and calm. She is staring directly into the camera and its clear she is the main focus in the image.

Her make-up is soft and natural with red lips. The connotations of red are normally love and passion and I feel this reflects in the songs she writes. In her hair she has white and pink flowers and the image is taken outdoors. This I feel represents her roots of being a country artist and where she grew up. The mise en scene of the image presents her to be very feminine and innocent looking, which makes her be more relatable to the target audience.

This is image is of the band sleeping with sirens. The photo is centred around the lead, Kellin Quinn. He is positioned in the middle of the photo with the other band members leaning into him meaning the attention and the main focus point of the viewer goes straight to him .The image is quite symmetrical with the same dark background and the positioning of the two members on either side of the image. Its clear to see that each members has some sort of tattoos on their arms/hands. This makes the audience easily be able to identify them as being part of the punk/rock genre.
