Illustrating How a Bill Becomes a Law
You are to illustrate the process by which a bill becomes a law. You can make either a children’s
book a flow chart/poster, or a game board.
The project will be due :__________________________. Here are your options:
OPTION 1 – CHILDREN’S BOOK
Create an illustrated children’s book that explains how a bill becomes a law. Make sure your younger
brother or sister could read and understand your book. Make sure the text of your book is entirely in
your own words!
Remember:
1. Before you start, review your notes on the journey of a bill to a law.
2. Break down the journey of a bill into about 7 steps. Be sure to plan your book before you start
creating it! You may include more than 7 steps if you would like, but make sure you have at
least 7. HONORS STUDENTS: YOU MUST INCLUDE ALL 7 STEPS FOR BOTH HOUSES.
3. You are to include an illustration with each step (at least 7 images). You will need to draw
these images and hand-write the text.
4. Bind your book and make sure your name/block is on your book!
OPTION 2 – FLOWCHART POSTER
For this option, you will draw up your own bill and then create a flowchart on a piece of poster board
that outlines how your bill became a law.
Remember:
1. Before you start, review your notes on the journey of a bill.
2. Using the template, “There Should Be a Law”, create your own bill. Your bill can be for
anything. Be creative but appropriate!
3. Once your bill is drafted, use 1 piece of poster board to create a flowchart that details the steps
your bill had to go through before it became law. You must include at least 7 steps on your
flowchart. HONORS STUDENTS: YOU MUST INCLUDE ALL 7 STEPS FOR BOTH HOUSES.
4. You will need to include at least 7 illustrations (1 for each step) on your flowchart. Be sure to
include arrows to make the journey of your bill clear.
5. Make sure your name and block are on your poster and bill.
