EUROPEAN ENVIRONMENTAL REGULATIONS FOR MATITIME TRANSPORT
European Directive - 2009/28/EC 20% share of total energy from renewable sources
European Directive 2012 /27 EC This directive establisches a common framework of measures for the promotion of energy efficency European Directive 2012/33/EC European Directive 2016 /802/EC The last directive provides in order to limit maximum sulphur content in shipping fuels to 3,50% from june 2014 and 0,50 % from january 2020;.
European Directive 2014/94/EC LNG in the ports
THE LEGAL ASPECT OF EU DIRECTIVE 2016 / 802 BASIC RULE: Maximum sulphur content in marine fuel
Member States shall ensure that marine fuels are not used within their territory if their sulphur content exceeds 3,50 %
by mass, except for fuels supplied to ships using emission abatement methods subject to Article 8 operating in closed
mode (article 5)
1) Member States shall take all necessary measures to ensure that marine fuels are not used in their territorial seas,
exclusive economic zones and pollution control zones falling outside SOx Emission Control Areas by passenger ships
operating on regular services to or from any Union port if the sulphur content of those fuels exceeds 1,50 % by mass
until 1 January 2020. Member States shall be responsible for the enforcement of this requirement at least in respect of
vessels flying their flag and vessels of all flags while in their ports (article 6.5)
1) Member States shall take all necessary measures to ensure that ships at berth in Union ports do not use marine fuels with
a sulphur content exceeding 0,10 % by mass, allowing sufficient time for the crew to complete any necessary fuel-
changeover operation as soon as possible after arrival at berth and as late as possible before departure ( article 7.1)
1) The prohibition on using marine fuels with a sulphur content exceeding 0,10 % by mass shall not apply (article
7.2):
a) whenever, according to published timetables, ships are due to be at berth for less than two hours;
b) to ships which switch off all engines and use shore-side electricity while at berth in ports
THE MAIN EFFECTS OF ENVIRONMENTAL DIRECTIVES ON MEDITERRANEAN CRUISE PORTS
• THE CHOICE OF THE CRUISE PORT FOR THE REDUCTION OF EMISSIONS
The gigantic cruise ship arrive at berths carryng 3000 passengers
Floating towns
• FACTOR OF CHOICE : PROJECT FINANCING
AVAILABILITY OF SPACES IN PORTS ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT
THE POSSIBILITY TO REDUCE EMISSIONS OF CRUISES : SHORE SIDE ELECTRICITY - LNG
POSSIBILITY OF SHORE POWER ? • CONSTRUCTION ,COSTS FOR INSTALLATION, POWER CONSUMPTION

THE USE OF LNG FOR PORTS OF MEDCRUISE

positive aspects : COST

areas NECA 2016 the 20-25% reduction in emissions of carbon dioxide (CO2).

Volumes of LNG bunkering; physical barriers in port; logistics; type of vessels; costs of investment and operation; safety; technical and operational regulations; environmental issues and regulations.
THE CHOICE OF CRUISE INDUSTRY • Build new ship with LNG
• Conversion to LNG ships
• COSTA CROCIERE 2019-2020 2 SHIPS WITH LNG 6.600
PEOPLE – DUAL FUEL) The gas will be stored on board ships (in tanks above the double hull) and used in navigation to provide 100% of the energy needed - The use of Lng both in port and at sea will allow, therefore, to significantly reduce emissions of exhaust gases.
