Colorado Off-Highway Vehicle Coalition "Economic Contribution of Off-Highway Vehicle
Recreation in Colorado"
• The annual total economic contribution of motorized recreation in Colorado exceeds $1,027,000,000.
• It is responsible for over 12,000 jobs, $370 million in labor income, $129 million in property income, $107 million in taxes, and $243 million in downstream gross sales that provide economic benefits to citizens, businesses, and governments.

Economic Importance of OHV Recreation in Arizona2002, Arizona State University conducted a yearlong
economic study of recreational off-highway vehicle use in Arizona
• Creates a statewide economic impact of $4.25 billion (multiplier effect*)
• Contributes $3.1 billion to local economies through OHV-related retail sales
• Adds $187 million to annual state tax revenues• Provides $1.1 billion in household income
(salaries/wages) for AZ residents• Supports 36,951 full-time and part-time jobs in
Arizona

Wyoming State Trails - 2006 “A survey and Economic Assessment of off-road vehicle
use in Wyoming"• Residents reported spending an average of
$27.04 per day, Non-residents reported spending an average of $31.70 per person per day on trips to Wyoming and $243.03 annually in the state of Wyoming (in addition to trip expenses). The result is an estimated $149.1 million in total trip spending by both registered and non-registered resident ORV users.
• Based on the projected number of ORVs in the state, residents spent over $189 million on ORVs and related expenses in 2006.

Wyoming State Trails - 2006 “A survey and Economic Assessment of off-road vehicle
use in Wyoming"
• The results show that an estimated 127 new jobs and an additional $3.3 million in earnings are contributed to the Wyoming economy by registered non-resident ORV users. If the same ratio of resident registered users to total users as found in the telephone survey is applied to non-residents, then the jobs and earnings estimate would increase to 679 jobs and over $17.6 million in earnings.

BENEFITSof
PLANNEDATV
TRAILS
Idaho Interagency OHV
Coordination Committee
Out of area visitors have no clue that they exist let alone where they go
Miles “out there” do not equate to value Generate a lot of random riding as a result of
visitor confusion about where to go Confused / frustrated riders make less than
desirable route choices
RANDOM ATV TRAILS
Idaho Interagency OHV
Coordination Committee
Information and maps are available for planning the trip
Signing makes it easy to find and follow the route Travels through interesting country Makes a loop and maybe sub-loops Route is “ATV size” Trailheads have ATV information and maps Avoids busy roads Safe but provides some challenge Includes interpretive signing Maintained – ideally by the users
A PLANNED ATV SYSTEM
Idaho Interagency OHV
Coordination Committee
More likely to attract non-local visitors Clearly defined, interesting system routes reduce
riding elsewhere Resource impacts reduced Law enforcement issues reduced Maintenance efforts can be better focused
