2011 – 2012 Rochester Chapter President’s

Message The success of Rochester’s Institute of Internal Auditor’s Chapter is a testament to the strength and maturity of the Professional Practice of Internal Audit locally and a testament to the benefits of internal auditing, risk management, governance, internal control, information technology audit, and security for our global business community, without which we would not have measures to audit against. The Rochester Chapter provides some of the most innovative and relevant training the profession has to offer, which is continually updated based on the feedback of our members and attendees, which we strive to meet the needs of. The Rochester Chapter provides annually nearly forty hours of continuing professional education (CPE) credits, which satisfies the CPE requirements for the Certified Internal Auditor and Certified Public Account. Members of the IIA receive a significant discount at each of our local CPE training events, which makes joining the IIA not only risk adverse, but also economical. As a member you’ll receive not only discounts to local training, but also the benefits of a 170k member global organization, such as connecting to a Network of Professionals, World-Class Training Opportunities, Certification Opportunities, Professional Knowledge Sharing, Professional Guidance, Leadership Development, Books and Research and Job Opportunities. In addition to providing training, we also provide assistance to join our organization, gain an IIA sanctioned certification (CIA, CCSA, CFSA, or CGAP) and have in-roads to area colleges to connect with and leverage the auditors of tomorrow. We perform all of our local activities with an executive volunteer group of 18 individuals, which is comprised of board members and officers. We are additionally supported by an informal volunteer committee, but are always looking for new volunteers, officers and board members to assist in expanding our organization’s reach and vision. As my first year as the Rochester Chapter’s President I look forward to meeting the needs of our members and personally meeting and getting to know as many of you as possible, so please feel free to reach out to me with ways to make our organization better, ways to be active and volunteer or to just connect. Looking forward to a great year and thank you for the continuing support!

Best Regards, Joel Barrett , CIA

Chapter Achievement Program (CAP) By Dolores Pasto-Ziobro, CAP Chair The Rochester Chapter participates in the CAP program operated by the Institute of Internal Auditors. There are three program categories – Service to Members, Service to Profession, and Chapter Administration. Chapters work to achieve one of three performance levels – Bronze, Silver, or Gold. The Rochester Chapter has reached the gold level for the past 6 years due to strong leadership and active members. Each year our chapter leaders use the CAP activity chart to assist with planning activities, monitoring progress, and reporting. Members like you help the chapter achieve its goals through committee participation, attendance at educational programs & socials, giving audit-related presentations, and other activities. Please let me know if you give a presentation on an audit related topic so we can report this for CAP points. If you are interested in learning more about the program and how you can help the chapter accomplish its goals please contact me at [email protected] or 292-2158. Here’s to the GOLD!
