Cursillo Retreat

To better help us understand the issues before us this election year, Suzanne Lafreniere ,JD, from the Office of Public Policy with the Diocese of Portland will be visiting our parish to speak and answer questions on the upcoming election.

WHERE: St. Philip Church Hall

WHEN: October 9th, 10:30 & 12 Noon

A message from Bishop Robert P.Deeley “As you are well aware, we are in the midst of election season. It is hardly necessary to remind you of that fact since the season seems unending. Now, however, we draw closer to November and the actual election. That election is not just a vote for a president, as important as that is, but votes for representation in Congress and other ballot issues. It seems, therefore, a good time to remind you that the Church affirms that every Catholic is called to prayerful, active, and responsible participation in the political process. As such, I urge all Catholics in Maine who are eligible, to register and vote. We are both Catholics and Mainers and follow the dual calling of faith and citizenship. “

We encourage all parishioners to participate in a special Novena to The Holy Spirit for our upcoming elections.

Novena: October 29 through Sunday Nov. 6, concluding with a Holy Hour at Sacred Heart.

In anticipation of All Souls’ Day, November 2nd

Envelopes are available at entrance of the church and in the pews if you wish to have the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass offered for the repose of the soul of deceased loved ones. The names listed on the envelopes will also be published in the bulletin and kept near the alter so

that they can be remember in a general way at all the Masses offered during November. The monies collected will be used to offer Masses for the deceased throughout the year and will be published in the bulletin as “Deceased Loved Ones of Parishioners.”

Families With Young Children You are invited to Lunch! After the 11:00 Mass at Sacred Heart

on October 16

A light lunch will be served for your entire family and then the adults will have a time for discussion and the children will have a program.

A luncheon for families with young children to:

Have a chance to meet other young Catholic families

Build relationships

Grow in their knowledge of the faith

Have some “adult” time while their children learn faith lessons in a safe structured environment.

If you are able to attend please RSVP to Don Smith so we can have plenty of food.

PRINCE OF PEACE AND IMMACULATE HEART OF MARY PARISHES

WOMEN’S ACTS RETREAT - OCTOBER 20 - 23

World Mission Sunday is October 23rd

The Pontifical Mission Societies include:

The Society of St. Peter Apostle

For example: The bishop, in 1889, did not have the funds to train young Japanese men whom, he judged, would make excellent priests. The Bigards, donors for this project, came to his assistance and started a small group for this purpose in their native Caen, France. From these humble beginnings emerged the Society of St. Peter Apostle. Within five years of sending their first donation to Japan, the Bigards, and those whom they enlisted to help, were sending funds to seminaries in India, Sri Lanka, Vietnam, Korea and China. The goal of the Society of St. Peter then and now has been to invite individuals to support the education of candidates for the Catholic priesthood in the Developing World and to support the formation of men and women candidates for the religious life in the missions. In its first year, the Society of St. Peter Apostle sent help for some 2,700 seminarians in the missions. Today, some 30,000 major seminarians, mostly in Africa and Asia, receive an annual subsidy of $700 per student.

Attention Parishioners We are working on updating our files! Volunteers will be calling you over the next few months to help update our parish records.
