Process Equipment Products – IFU Fine Bubble Diffusers

Over the 30 years of their establishment IFU have manufactured and refined the design of their fine bubblemembrane diffusers and established them in over 2,000 operational sites worldwide. Recognising that the IFUproduct has many advantages over their competitors, Davies Greenwood has undertaken the distribution licence forthe UK, Ireland and Australia and as well provides a package of design, installation and commissioning from theirskilled collaborative engineering team.

The IFU O2 - GigantIFU’s Popular O2- Gigant Diffuser has been developed over progressive years of improvement and is constructedfrom a special quality EPDM membrane with low plasticizer content supported on a robust disc made of fibre glassreinforced polypropylene. High OTE values which depend on diffuser density, depth of air introduction and the airflow rate have been independently recorded as more than 30 g O2 / Nm³ per m of in-blown depth. Air flows rangefrom 0 - 30 Nm³ / h with the optimal range between 1.5 - 15 Nm³ / h per diffuser with excellent controllabilityparticularly at commissioning.

The design of diffusers commonly installed onUK aeration plant often include an outer

retention ring which suffers from ingress of finegrit particles of progressively increasing size

which can erode the membrane along the wholeof the inner edge, thus decreasing asset life. IFU’s

alternative design uses a banded loopincorporated into a moulded saddle which

effectively removes this weakness.

The “doughnut” effect on inflation reduces thecoalescence of fine bubbles so improving

oxygen transfer efficiency and contributing tooperational cost savings.

The IFU VMS diffuser

IFU’s Vertical Membrane Diffusers are suitable for industrialeffluents particularly those with high solids content. A flexible ringallows for adjustment at commissioning for balancing or intensity. Airentry is into a non perforated portion of the membrane so that themembrane seals if ruptured. They can be installed on fixed or lift outsystems.

The IFU RS Diffuser

IFU’s horizontally mounted RS diffuser is manufactured in lengths from1m to 2.5m and in plastic or stainless steel. Again the design allows theautomatic sealing of the membrane if ruptured.

The IFU RK Diffuser

IFU’s RK diffuser can be supplied normally in lengths up to 24 m; 70 mm tubes for maximum length of 3 mand 63mm tubes for maximum length 5 m. Lengths attainable depend on the required airflow.

The IFU engineering team produce a wide variety of designs proven over many years of successful operation; bothfor permanently mounted and lift-out systems.

IFU’s Portable Kombi-Mix AeratorIFU’s Kombi Mix system employs its tubular membranes with a mixing system and hyperbolic profileddeflector to induce horizontal flows over the diffusers and to promote longer bubble paths to achievemore efficient oxygen transfer.

As well as municipal sewagetreatment applications IFU’s

products have been installed overa wide range of industriesincluding the treatment of

chemical wastes, dairy wastes, paper pulp wastes and tip

leachates.

Above and left, we show theretrofit of 4 Kombi-Mix Units inan existing tank for dairy waste

treatment.

Its portability allows ease oftransportation for rapid deployment foremergencies such as mechanical failuresand periods of final effluent compliance

risk

They can be swiftly and economicallyretrofitted to existing available tankage to

reduce capital costs
