in advance, and the airspace must be activated by KC Center. All Ops without an RCO must be dry.

4. Flights should provide their Intraflight VHF to RCO, or use 139.7. 5. No aircraft will deliver ordnance with their final attack heading pointing

at the Main Tower complex. 6. Do not strafe the acoustical scored targets at angles greater than 15°

(due to sensor damage), or less than 5° (due to ricochet). Exception: scored HAS target. Night strafe targets available on request.

7. Weather Minimums on R3601 are: Day = 1500 & 3sm Night = 3000 & 5sm 8. WISS scoring is available on most targets with a few exceptions. WISS

cannot score night bombs without spotting charges (hot spots). For night scoring pass target lineup prior to sunset.

9. A LES-M system provides real time Laser designator scoring on 316.9. If LES-M scoring is desired contact range scheduling with the request.

10. LUU-2s can be employed within the Range firebreaks (defined by blinking blue strobes). Maximum surface wind for employment during high fire index is 20 kts. Minimum altitude for release is 5500’ AGL. Minimum weather required is 6500’ AGL for LUU-2s. Deploy flares so they land on the range property inside the firebreaks, and do not drift over the Tower Complex. Coordinate the release point with the RCO. Inform RCO of all dud flares.

11. The AN/MST-T1 MUTES and AN/MSR-T4 TRAINS is located in the NE corner of R3601A at N38 44.662 / W097 47.280 (14S PH 0532 8911). Coordinate desired training at DSN 743-7600 x 160/161/162/163. On range communication with MUTES callsign “Wizard” on 316.9/309.9.

12. IFR Emergency Jettison area is 200m SE of Nuke Circle. Fly inbound on the SLN 208° R (CH118) at 4500’. Jettison at 18 DME.

13. VFR Emergency Jettison area is between Tgts 123 & 97A/B East of the Tac Runway HDG 330° thru 360°.

14. RCO determines Bird Watch Condition with all potential sources of bird activity. Pilot is final authority to determine restrictions/changes under bird condition SEVERE.

15. During high fire index conditions the RCO may restrict the use of trac-ers and flares and/or close certain target areas to all deliveries.

BIRD WATCH

CONDITION DEFINITION RESTRICTIONS

SEVERESEVERE

1. High bird population on or immediately above the runway or other loca-tion with high strike po-tential. 2. Supervisors and pi-lots must evaluate mis-sion needs prior to con-ducting operations in SEVERE areas.

1. Take-offs and Landings Pro-hibited (exception emergency). 2. No LATN in specific area.

MODERATEMODERATE

1. Increased bird activity in areas that increases potential for a strike. 2. Increased vigilance is required of all agencies, supervisors and pilots.

1. Departure and one approach to a full-stop landing is permit-ted if identified bird activities are avoided. 2. No Formation Take-Off, Ap-proach or Landings Permitted. 3. 20 Sec spacing for takeoff. 4. 6000 ft min spacing between landings. 5. Min alt. for Chase/Low ap-proach acft is 300 ft. 6. No LATN below 1000 ft AGL(specific area). 7. When AHAS is used at Can-non Range to determines a “moderate” condition, low alti-tude operations are still be per-mitted after a range clearing pass and permission by the RCO. 8. No multiple IFR/VIS pat-terns. Full stop landings only.

LOWLOW None – Normal Ops.

NOTES: 1. These restrictions apply to local and off station missions. 2. Pilots must seek to determine expected bird activity at their destination and enroute airports. 3. T-38 SOF and RCO determines Whiteman or Range Condition. A-10 SOF through PIREPS, computer models will determine bird condition else where. 4. OG/CC or higher may authorize deviations in specified instances if ORM techniques are used to evaluate mission needs, risks, and measures to mitigate risks.

1. Terminate maneuvering and SAFE master arm. 2. Look for impact around the range and ask RCO if impact was observed. 3. If impact is long (greater than 300 M) and a late cart or TER malfunction

is suspected, report it to the range, deselect the TER and continue. 4. If no impact is spotted: a. Remain within Restricted airspace and avoid populated areas. b. Verify release cue in IFFCC. If time appropriate cue is missing

and no other malfunction is suspected, continue with full mission pro-file.

c. Conduct a BD check (day time only). d. If the last BDU in sequence is not on the A/C, assume a no spot

and continue with full mission profile. e. If the BDU is hung (at night assume it is) go to step 5. 5. If BDU is considered hung: a. Pilot may reattempt release IAW -34CL pg E-4. b. Pilot may re-home TER at IP/FL discretion. c. If BDU is suspected to be un-secure (by a daytime visual inspection), terminate, RTB, and fly hung ordnance procedures. d. Otherwise (including night time) terminate range work unless pro-

file can remain within Restricted airspace and avoid populated areas. 6. On RTB with suspected hung BDUs (assume so at night), fly hung ord-

nance procedures.

HUNG / NO SPOT BDU PROCEDURES

•For scenarios with personnel on Range at Cannon Range, A/C must be clean and the Gun pinned for dry gun employment.

•For dry operations where the A/C is not clean, all operations within the confines of a Restricted Area, or use the OFF RANGE restrictions.

Simulated Freefall/Rocket attack 1. MA, Release Mode, Fuzing: as required. 2. Do not select stations (verbally acknowledge through flight). 3. Do not select manned targets unless clean of munitions. 4. Use caution if carrying BDU 50/56s during low angle deliveries.

Pick targets so that accidental release does not skip/frag into friendly positions.

Simulated Gun attacks 1. MA: As required. 2. Gun Rate: Safe. 3. Do not select manned targets. Simulated Maverick attacks 1. MA, Release Mode: As required. 2. All pilots must confirm and acknowledge “EO in the window, fuz-

ing safe.”

2. All pilots must confirm and acknowledge “EO in the window, fuz-

ing safe.”

Off Range Release or Inadvertent Release 1. Safe all switches—Discontinue mission and RTB. 2. Determine location and time of impact. 3. Inform the RCO (if on a Range) and SOF (all cases). 4. Record switch positions. Note time. Save DTC for post-mission analy-

sis. Capture the event from the RMM and save file for future reference. 5. If on range, and the possibility of subsequent inadvertent releases exist,

remaining ordnance (or suspension equipment, if necessary) should be released on range.

6. Land IAW Hung Ordnance Recovery. 7. Remain with the aircraft until Maint QA/Wing Safety personnel have

arrived to impound aircraft.

Chase Procedures 1. Contact the SOF if desiring a chase aircraft, or if you have been re-

quested by another aircraft. If the A-10 SOF cannot be contacted, call the range, SLN Tower, or KC Center and ask for assistance.

2. Unless the emergency requires a low approach, plan on a full stop only. All IFE aircraft will be chased if a chase aircraft is available. Do not de-scend below 2000 ft AGL until preparing to land.

Hot Brakes

1. Pilots aborting above 100 KIAS (without speedbrakes), or who suspect hot brakes for any reason, will notify tower and taxi to the designated hot brake area (See inside of front cover). Pilots should contact the SOF to run the wheel brake energy charts for all aborts above 60 KIAS.

2. Remain clear of other aircraft, and have maintenance check the brakes. Keep Ground Control advised of intentions.

3. If brakes or tires ignite at any time, maintenance personnel will signal the pilot to shutdown, and evacuate the aircraft.

Engine Flameouts/Unusual Engine Performance

1. Pilots will abort the mission after experiencing any abnormal engine performance, regardless of the flight conditions.

2. The pilot will declare an IFE and fly a single engine approach even if a restart was successful.

3. Document occurrence in the AFTO 781.

1. Descend to lower altitude: Hold hand at top of canopy, palm down, fingers ex-tended and joined, move hand forward and down. 2. System failures. HEFOE System: Clench fist and hold it at top of canopy, then hold up the required number of fingers to denote which system is involved (see a - e below). If the clenched fist signal is seen but no finger signal is given, the pilot will assume that the aircraft in distress has one or more systems inoperable and should proceed with extreme caution. The receiving pilot acknowledges the signal by repeating it.

a. Hydraulic - one finger. b. Electrical - two fingers. c. Fuel - three fingers. d. Oxygen - four fingers. e. Engine - five fingers.

3. I must land on your wing: Pat shoulder, palm down. To prevent confusion with other signals, use right hand for left shoulder and vice versa. To acknowledge, other pilot must give an OK signal; the basic signal indicates a jet approach speed of 130 knots. If the distress aircraft desires a higher approach speed, the pilot must raise one finger for each 10 knot increase desired. The distressed aircraft lands and the escort executes a go around.

4. Land immediately Close fist and hold it to top of canopy with thumb extended downward, then move arm up and down rapidly. (Do not confuse signal with "Gear Down" signal, which is generally not used at altitude). 5. Radio inoperative landing (no assist aircraft available) Fly aircraft along the side of landing runway, 1000 feet above the field elevation, rocking wings until reaching end of the runway. Turn to downwind and check mobile control or tower for green light on base leg and final approach.

6. Radio failure Tap microphone or earphone, and signal as appropriate. A. Receiver failure With palm of hand over ear position, move hand forward and backward. B. Transmitter failure With palm of hand toward and in front of the face, move hand up and down.

7. Complete electrical failure landing (no assist aircraft available) Distressed aircraft will fly 500 feet over mobile control or tower, then continue to the far end of the runway and pull up into a wide downwind leg. Proceed with a pattern and landing appropriate for the type aircraft being flown, while watching mobile or tower for signals. The control tower will clear the area of other aircraft and will call the emergency crash equipment to scene. 8. Bailing out or ejection: One or both clenched fists pulled downward across the face to simulate pulling the ejection face curtain.

9. Desire to land: Movement of the hand, flat, with palm down, forward and downward, finishing the movement in a simulated roundout. As an alternate signal, lower the landing gear.

10. Intercepting signals: The intercepting aircraft positions itself in front of and usu-ally to the left of the intercepted aircraft and rocks its wings. This is a signal that the inter-cep-tor wishes the other aircraft to follow it. The responding porpoising signal in this case indicates distress.

1. All deliveries developed from T.O. 1-A-10-34-1-2FD (CWDS V 9.1) 2. Aircraft / Atmospheric conditions for all parameter calculations: 40,000 lb Aircraft 45° Celsius (113°F) 1,000’ Target 4551’ Target Density Altitude 3. All airspeeds are KCAS / KIAS. 4. All altutudes are AGL. You must ADD TARGET ELEVATION. 5. All altitudes are based on IFFCC computed modes or OPT C. If employing in HARS or

Standby Pipper you must add 10xDive Angle to ALL ALTITUDES to correct for altime-ter lag and installation error.

6. Parameter corrections:

• All parameters are cranked for pylon-mounted bombs, except for BDU-33s. If using TERs subtract 4 MILS.

• Mil adjustments for variations in store carriage, ripple quantity, target altitude, tempera-ture, and aircraft weight are provided on page 1-9.

• Abort altitude adjustments for variations in target altitude are provided on page 1-9. 7. Every computed delivery includes specific IFFCC weapons menu settings. The Minimum

Range Staple (MRS) and Minimum Range Cue (MRC) represent the most conservative Minimum Recovery Altitude (MRA) for safe escape/fragmentation, fuzing, and minimum altitude (if set). The MRS/MRC is based off of the following IFFCC weapons settings: • ESC MVR: Used to select the appropriate RTSE table for MRA calculations. The

proper SEM should be selected (CLM or TLT) unless the delivery card specifically shows NONE. For BDU-33s, the proper SEM/Bomb Config combo must be se-lected (for example, TLT/HD for 10LAHD deliveries). Selecting NONE turns off RTSE and the MRS/MRC will not show abort for frag.

• FUZE: Fuze types(s) and settings are input by the pilot and must match current arming combinations available per T.O. 1-1M-34. Each delivery shows the proper fuze type(s) and fuze time(s) to set into the IFFCC menu. With the exception of GBU-12s (see GBU-12 page for more info), the fuze types and arm times input into IFFCC must exactly match the configuration of the weapons loaded.

• MIN ALT: Each delivery in this volume now lists a min alt to set in the IFFCC menu. These minimum altitudes are based on MCI 11-2A/OA-10 Vol 1 and AFI-11-214 and must be set for all peacetime deliveries. The Suite 4 algorithm computes the min altitude abort cue based on the input SEM (IFFCC uses the CLM SEM algorithm for input SEMs of NONE or TRN). For strafe and Mav deliveries the algorithm com-putes the min alt abort cue based on a 4G in 2 sec wings level pull. NOTE: Consid-eration should be given to setting 0 (or some other nominal altitude) in the IFFCC menus for COMBAT operations. This will ensure the MRS/MRC will indicate only aborts for fuzing or frag and not for an arbitrary training-rule-driven altitude.

9. Abort Criteria: Each delivery lists the following: • Authorized Safe Escape Maneuver (SEM) – Reference page 1-11.

− >20° delivery perform climbing SEM (CLM) − ≤20° perform turn level turn SEM (TLT) − NOTE: CLM SEM may be performed instead of TLT if desired/

tactically sound. TLT MAY NOT be substituted for CLM SEM.

• Abort Reason − FUZE: Delivery below abort cues will prevent weapon from arming, or in

the case of illumination flares/illum rockets, the flare will impact the ground still burning.

− FRAG: Delivery below abort cues will expose aircraft to frag damage − TRs: Delivery below abort cues will likely result in the aircraft descending

below peacetime training rule min altitude.

• Abort Altitude − The abort altitude listed is only valid for an Opt C manual delivery. If

degraded to HARS or Standby Pipper mode, add 10xDive Angle to all delivery altitudes, including abort. If using any IFFCC computed mode, use the IFFCC abort cue (MRS/MRC) to determine when to abort.

valid for Opt C, HARS, and Standby Pipper abort altitudes. With a working IFFCC sys-tem and properly-entered delivery data, IFFCC will provide an accurate abort cue even if outside these parameters.

BDU-33 NOTES 1. BDU-33 parameters are cranked to simulate the release parameters of the MK-82AIR

(VLD, 10 and 15 LAHD) and the MK-82LD (all other releases). 2. BDU-33 IFFCC settings and assumptions:

• ESC MVR: For events simulating MK-82AIR (VLD, 10/15 LAHD) set TLT/HD to enable the MK-82HD RTSE table. For events simulating MK-82LD, set the SEM as required by the weapons card (Ensure LD suffix) for that event to en-able MK-82LD RTSE tables.

• FUZE TIME: 4.6 for all events to simulate FMU-139 set to 4 seconds plus manufacturing allowable tolerance.

• MIN ALT: As required by event IAW with MCI 11-2A/OA-10 Vol 1 and AFI 11-214.

STRAFE NOTES 1. For all strafe events, MIN ALT setting provides for recovery using a 4G in 2 sec wings level

pull to horizon, to stay above MCI 11-2A/OA-10 and AFI 11-214 min altitudes for that event. Abort altitudes provide the same information for manual events.

2. “Thick” / “Thin” events represent the proper slant range using the following assumptions:

• Thick – Average Main Battle Tank

• Thin – Average Soft-Skinned Vehicle (SSV)

• 50% Probability of M/F-Kill

• 2” Burst; 2.5 Mil Aiming Error

CLIMBING (CLM) SEM (0° - 60° of Dive)

Following release, safe escape is provided by obtaining a 4.0 G (min) in 2 second pull. As the nose approaches the horizon, military power is applied. G is maintained to a 20-degree climbing flight path angle and then relaxed until a 30-degree flight path angle is achieved. NOTE: This escape maneuver allows for bank angles up to 30° during recovery.

TURNING LEVEL TURN (TLT) SEM (0°-20° of Dive)

Following release, safe escape is provided by simultaneously selecting military power and obtaining 4 G’s (min) in 2 seconds in a wings level pull. As the flight path approaches the horizon, perform a 2-4 G loaded roll to establish a level turn. As bank is established, en-sure 4 G’s are maintained for a minimum of 60° of turn from release heading.
