The marketThe agri-food industry is the main industry of Ukraine. The majority of pro-duction has so far been attributed to goods with low and medium added value. For foreign companies there are many business opportunities, espe-cially for suppliers of technology and high-quality food. Fertile black soil and large acreage make Ukraine one of the most important agricultural countries in the world. This also benefits the local food industry. As the main industry, food and beverage production, at $ 16.1 billion (US $) in 2017, accounted for approximately 30.5 percent of total manufacturing output, followed by the metals industry at $ 14.7 billion $. Ukraine has a large number of pre-dominantly small businesses in the food, beverage and tobacco industries. According to the statistics office Derzhstat, there were a total of 5,502 com-panies in the sectors in 2015, including 58 with more than 250 employees and a turnover of at least 50 million euros. Industry giants include not only national and international but also vertically integrated agricultural holdings. International companies are increasingly using their factories in the Ukra-ine, thanks to favorable production costs, for deliveries to third countries.

The forumThe annual IFFIP (International Forum of Food Industry and Packaging)

was created in 2009 through the merger of the established trade fairs Food

Expo (since 1996) and Pack Fair (since 2001). The aim was to create a plat-

form that covers the entire spectrum of products and services for the food

industry: from raw material processing to the finished product and its prepa-

ration. Since then IFFIP has become the main event of the Ukrainian food

and packaging industry. The IFFIP consists of the four partial exhibitions

Pack Fair, FoodTechMash, Food Expo, Bakery and Confectionery Industry.
