The One Trait

• If you could instill but one character trait for your child, to help them lead a life of righteousness and obedience to God, what would it be?

– Hint: God highlights one possible suggestion through repetition in the Bible…

Then he called for his son Solomon and charged him to build a house for

the LORD, the God of Israel. David said to Solomon: "My son, I had it in my

heart to build a house for the Name of the LORD my God. But this word of the

LORD came to me: 'You have shed much blood and have fought many

wars.

You are not to build a house for my Name, because you have shed much blood on the earth in my sight. But

you will have a son who will be a man of peace and rest, and I will give him

rest from all his enemies on every side. His name will be Solomon, and I

will grant Israel peace and quiet during his reign.

He is the one who will build a house for my Name. He will be my son, and I will be his father. And I will establish the throne of his kingdom over Israel

forever.'

"Now, my son, the LORD be with you, and may you have success and build

the house of the LORD your God, as he said you would.

May the LORD give you discretion and understanding when he puts you in

command over Israel, so that you may keep the law of the LORD your God. Then you will have success if you are careful to observe the decrees and laws that the LORD gave Moses for

Israel. Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or discouraged.

From Father to Son

finished.

Then Moses summoned Joshua and said to him in the presence of all

Israel, "Be strong and courageous, for you must go with this people into the

land that the LORD swore to their forefathers to give them, and you

must divide it among them as their inheritance.

Deuteronomy 31:7

Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the law my servant Moses gave you; do not turn from it to the right or to the left, that you

may be successful wherever you go.

serve in King Nebuchadnezzar.• Probably about 14 years of age.• Name changed to a pagan meaning:– Belteshazzar = “the keeper of the

treasure of Baal”

Daniel

• Subjected to three years of education and indoctrination into Babylonian culture.– Learned a new language.– Learned all the “wisdom” of his new

country.

• Daniel Draws the Line–Will not eat or drink from the king’s

table.

• Why draw the line there?– No prohibition to changing your name.– No prohibition to learning about other

cultures.– The Bible does prohibit the consumption

of unclean foods sacrificed before idols.

• Daniel said “no” where God says “no.”

Daniel’ Traits

• He was uncompromising.• He demonstrated conviction.• He maintained his courtesy.• He demonstrated unflagging

confidence.• He maintained consistency.– Outlasting many kings of Babylon.

Daniel’s Impact
