Every year in the State of California, we throw away tons of electronic equipment that was state-of-the-art just a while ago.Not only do these electronics contain valuable materials that canbe recycled, but they also contain hazardous materials that cancause harm to humans and the environment. To help solve thisproblem, our State’s legislators passed a law that makes it illegalto dump electronic waste – anything with a plug or battery – in the trash.

Instead, electronics must now be recycled. Please take them toone of the drop-off sites listed on the back of this brochure.Electronics should NOT be put in your curbside recycling bins.

The following types of electronics are recyclable: Computer and Office Equipment – monitors, CPUs, printers, fax machines. Audio and Visual Equipment – radios, CD players, televisions, VCRs, DVD players, videogame systems. Small Appliances – microwave ovens, toasters, coffee makers. Large Appliances – washers, dryers, stoves, ovens, refrigerators, water heaters.

If your electronic equipment still works but nolonger works for you, donate it! Schools, com-munity centers, and non-profit organizationsmay be looking for items just like yours.Check newspaper want-ads or online serviceslike Craig’s List.

If obsolete electronics are piling up at your place, bring them over to our place.

ELECTRONIC WASTE. RECYCLE.

This message is brought to you by the County ofSanta Barbara and funded by a grant from theCalifornia Integrated Waste Management Board."Zero Waste. You make it happen."

Discarded electronics contain hazardous materials and takeup limited landfill space. Plus, they contain valuable materi-als that can be used in new products. So a new state lawmakes it illegal to throw them in the trash.

Electronics – anything with a plug or battery – should berecycled at one of the locations listed below (and NOT inyour curbside recycling bins). And remember, if your electronics still work, consider donating them.

If you plan to throw your oldelectronic equipment in the trash,

you’re in for a shock.

Before you throw away old electronic equip-ment, here’s important news: Items likecomputers, radios, TVs, and telephones willnot be accepted in your curbside trash orrecycling containers. The State passed anew law to keep these materials out oflocal landfills. By recycling them, we canreuse their valuable materials and protectthe environment. Bring your electronics toone of the locations listed on the right.

From now on, it’s against the law to put electronic stuff in your garbage.Anything with a plug or battery should be recycled.
