20. Japan’s Idex bought 26 percent stake in ONGC’s KG basin block

Japan’s largest oil firm Inpex Corp has acquired 26 percent stake in oil and Gas Corp’s (ONGC) Krishna

Godavari basin deeps sea block.

ONGC will continue as the operator of the block with a 34 percent stake. Other partners in the block include

state gas utility GAIL India Ltd, Gujarat State Petroleum Corp Ltd (GPSC), Hindustan Petroleum Corp Ltd

(HPCL) and oil India Ltd (OIL) with 10 percent stake each.

22. India, Canada set $15 billion bilateral trade target by 2015

India and Canada set a bilateral trade target of USD 15 billion by 2015,

Currently, the bilateral trade stands at over USD 5 billion, Canada primarily exports vegetables, fertilizers,

machinery and wood pulp, while its main imports from India are organic chemicals, knit and woven apparel,

precious stones and metals, electronics and machinery.

23. Government approved disinvestment of 10% stake in HAL

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) has approved divestment of 10 percent equity in

HAL out of its holding on 100 percent through an Initial Public Officer (IPO) in the domestic market as per

the SEBI rules and regulation.

The paid up equity of the so far – unlisted company on March 31 this year was Rs. 120.50b crore.

international experts to this panel. Trevor Manuel, Minister in charge of the National Planning Commission

of South Africa, would chair the panel.

25. U. S. to become world’s top oil producer in 2020

The United States will become the world’s largest oil producer by around 2020, temporarily overtaking

Saudi Arabia, as new exploration technologies help find more resources, the International Energy Agency

predicted.

26. India ranked seventh in global services trade

India has been ranked by the World Trade Organisation (WTO) as the seventh largest player in the global

services trade with value of exports and imports aggregating $ 261 billion in 2011.

The Indian economy is mainly driven by services with the sector contributing over 55 percent of the

country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

The US lived up to its reputation of a global powerhouse of commercial services with exports of $ 581

billion, far exceeding its imports of $ 395 billion, the report noted. Though Germany was ranked as the

second biggest player in the global services trade, it had more of imports than exports with a deficit of $ 36

billion. Its exports of services were $ 253 billion while imports aggregated to $ 289 billion in 2011

The government signed an agreement with World Bank for USD 37–million loan to support Himachal

Pradesh Mid–Himalayan Watershed Development Project.

Drug–naker Cipla has appointed Subhanu Saxena as the Chief Executive Officer of the company.

29. Disinvestment of 9.50% paid up equity capital in NTPC Limited out of Government of India’s

shareholding of 84.50%

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs has approved disinvestment of 9.50% equity of NTPC Ltd.,

out of its holding of 84.50% through an offer for sale of Shares through Stock Exchanges as per SEBI Rules

and Regulations.

After this disinvestment Government of India’s shareholding in the company would come down to 75%. The

paid up equity capital of the company, as on 31st March, 2012 is Rs. 8245.46 crore. The President of India

holds 84.50% of the paid up capital in NTPC Ltd. NTPC is a listed Maharatna Central public Sector

Enterprise.

30. Mukesh Ambani topped Hurun India rich list

Relince Industries chairman Mukesh Ambani, with a personal fortune of USD 19.3 billion, is the richest

Indian, China-based research firm Hurun said in a report. Ambani is followed by Arcelor-Mittal chief

L.N. Mittal, whose wealth is pegged at USD 16.9 billion.

Ambani and Mittal are followed by Azim Premji of Wipro (USD 12.3 billion), Dilip Shanghvi of Sun

Pharmaceuticals (USD 8.5 billion), Pallonji Mistry of Shapoorji Pallonji & Co, the largest shareholder in

Tata Group (USD 7.9 billion), Shashi and Ravi Ruia of Essar Energy (USD 7.2 billion) and Adi Godrej of

Godrej Group (USD 6.9 billion).

Savitri Jindal, non-executive chairperson of O.P. Jindal Group, is the richest Indian woman with personal

fortune of $5.6 billion, while Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw of Biocon is the richest self-made woman with a

personal wealth of USD 600 million.

GFCI which provides profiles, ratings and rankings for 79 financial centres worldwide ranked Mumbai at

the 66th

place, down three places from last year when it was ranked 63rd
