IEC Convention 2015 Recap from Executive Director Dan Endris
IEC Con 2015 in Tampa, Florida, was a great time in October experiencing innovative education sessions, networking opportunities, an interactive expo, wire-off competition and more! Sixteen of us traveled to Tampa to work, educate ourselves and celebrate.
The keynote speaker was great! Ken Schmidt, the former director of communications for Harley-Davidson Motor Company, played an active role in one of the most celebrated turnarounds in corporate history - and got paid to ride motorcycles. He is widely known and respected as one of the business world’s most outspoken and provocative thought leaders and has partnered with many of the world’s most successful brands.
Beginning in 1985 as a specialist in corporate positioning and media relations, he was asked to work with the then-struggling Harley-Davidson to help restore the company’s image and create demand for its motorcycles. Within a few short years, Harley-Davidson became one of the most visible and frequently reported-on companies in the world, while sales of its motorcycles rocketed upward.
Ken related several key points relating to the electrical construction business; Sell the value you are does not mean being the cheapest, Harley Davidson sells their motorcycles at list price and above. It was a great experience and we celebrated one of our own at the Contractors awards.

Corrigan Wins National Award at IEC Convention
Receiving an IEC National Award is a tremendous achievement. Handed out every year at the
Leadership Luncheon and the Awards Gala at the IEC National Convention, award winners represent
those members and chapters who have made great strides within the electrical industry and the
association. This year, IEC-KYIN member Corrigan took home an award for Excellence in Electrical
Construction for Single-Family Residence. Congratulations, Corrigan!

Apprenticeship WeekIn response to the first ever National
Apprenticeship in November, we held our own
Apprenticeship Week here at IEC-KYIN. The
celebration featured several contests held online for
the Apprentices. We asked them to tell us why they
chose to be an apprentice in the electrical field and
their favorite thing about the IEC. We got some
great responses:
“I chose to be an apprentice in the electrical
field for different reasons- I've always wanted to
learn a trade. It's interesting doing something
different everyday. Even though it can be a
challenge its rewarding, especially when you have a
great team to work with that supports and
encourages you.”
“My favorite thing about IEC is how much
they truly try to help you with completing your goals.
When I first became interested in learning the
electrical trade I called the IEC and they were great
about telling me who to try to contact for
employment, they also reached out to companies
letting them know I was interested and were they
looking for an apprentice.”
“THANKS IEC FOR HELPING ME
START A NEW FUTURE!!”
