1 AFRICA RENEWABLE ENERGY INITIATIVE Notes from IDU team meeting Cairo, Egypt 10 October 2018 Present in the meeting: Safiatou Alzouma Nouhou Seyni Nafo Lawrence Agbemabiese Niclas Hällström Vivek Mittal Caroline Sipalla Purpose of the meeting: Overview of work undertaken by IDU so far, including accounts from each IDU member/consultant on their work. Contribution to hand-over/transition process with opportunity for clarifications of the on- going work under the different work areas for the new Director. LAWRENCE AGBEMABIESE An overview of the work undertaken since the starting date of the contract (23 May 2018) was provided. It was planned for former IDU member Prof. Yacob Mulugetta to also resume complementary work in May with contract ready and signed by the AREI/AfDB. Due to unforeseen workload constraints, Prof Mulugetta decided in the end not to be contracted (and rather contribute to the IDU on a non-paid basis for the moment). Mapping tools and database development Prof. Agbemabiese explained some of what he has done in terms of database and mapping tools development: Development of core database structure together with Prof. Lado Kurdgelashvili (subcontracted by Prof Agbemabiese since Prof Kurdgelashvili could not be directly contracted by AfDB due to his nationality). Development of specifications and relational structure of overall database. Development of user-friendly systems for entering data (by IDU as well as by those submitting projects for attribution and/or mapping information) in the immediate term, before the core database is finalised. o Questionnaire in the Qualtrix system o Database in Quickbase The Quickbase solution was developed to ensure availability of a user interface and database to cater to immediate needs, with simultaneous development of the core database from ground up specifically for AREI needs (using open and affordable formats such as MySQL).
