    Dear IDRF Donor/Supporter,

Do you wonderdoes my contribution make any difference? The answer is a resounding YES! A place to

live safely and receive education is changing the lives of many tribal girls from across India. Self-help groups

are empowering rural women to improve their own and their childrens lives with microcredit schemes and

skills training. Rural awareness programs on good governance are helping villages turn over a new leaf. We are

truly happy to share this year some of these heartwarming stories of progress (see enclosed material) made

possible by your kind donations to IDRF. On behalf of thousands of beneficiaries in Indiadeprived of basic

human needswe express our deepest gratitude for your continued generosity.

If you have yet to contribute, we hope that these stories stir you and inspire you to join the cause with IDRF.

Administered with strict oversight and accountability , IDRF provides a unique opportunity for its donors to

sustainably empower the weak destined to languish otherwise. With trust of our donors, we work withcarefully chosen grassroots, non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in Indiarun with integrity and by

dedicated volunteersto impact significant socioeconomic development across rural/ tribal India.

As 2011 is closing soon, once again we would like tothank our donors for helping us raise ~$700,000 in 2010.

In our grant giving process, a major portion of your donations was used to support quality education and self-

empowerment of rural/tribal girls/women and children who remain deprived and excluded from nations

economic development. We also supported eco-friendly, sustainable rural development, clean water supply and

sanitation, mobile medical clinics, and family planning programs. Of Recent, your donations are directly helping

fight corruption and improve governance in the most backward regions of Orissa, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh etc.

Our hope for 2011 is to raise $1,000,000. Working with miniscule budget NGOs, our results have been veryheartening and we hear a growing demand to widen the reach of the programs, so more and more villages canemulate and benefit. Financial needs of some IDRF supported programs are:

    IDRF FOCUS AREAS FOR GRANTS

IDRF disburses received donations to fund carefully selected non-governmental organizations (NGOs) on a

project-by-project basis. These NGOs operate under a miniscule budget and serve people without any

discrimination. IDRF attaches utmost importance to the NGOs accountability and integrity and selects

only those NGOs with a proven track record (see enclosed brochure for more information).

Although projects are cross-cutting in their benefits, IDRF has the following primary focus areas for its grants.

    1. Combating Corruption and Promoting Good Governance

While India has long had the concept of villagers being part of local governance through panchayats, they

have rarely served their purpose. With corrupt practices and unquestioned power of elected/ government

officials, the villagers rarely have access to resources allocated to them. IDRF has partnered with Transparency

International India to fight against corruption and to bring good governance in villages. Through this NGO, IDRF

is empowering villagers with good governance tools and encouraging a strong relationship amongst all

stakeholders. Also IDRF is inculcating transparency and professional reporting practices in our partner NGOs.

    2. Childrens Education with Emphasis on Girls from Rural/ Tribal Areas

IDRF prioritizes projects that impart affordable and qualityeducation to poor children from rural, tribal and urban

areas across India, with special emphasis on girl child. Access to quality education is severely lacking in rural

India and it is the biggest decisive factor in Indias equitable economic development. It is thus a key issue in

realizing IDRFs dream of creating self-help for the poor and mainstreaming them into the society.

    3. Women Empowerment and Gender Parity through Microcredit Schemes and Skills Training

Women constitute the very backbone of the family as they play multiple roles: a mother, a wife and often a

provider of additional income. IDRF has thus focused on projects that empower women and help remove gender

inequality, especially prevalent in rural India. Supporting a rich range of replicable women-focused programs

through its NGOs, IDRF is developing a new generation of women who are able to earn, participate in local

governance, provide adequate healthcare for their children, and practice family planning.

    4. Eco-Friendly, Sustainable Rural Development and Capacity Building

The key to shining India is if we are able to b ring to the fore indigenous skills of the village and convert them

into sustainable business opportunities at the grassroots level, in a manner that is inclusive of women. IDRF,therefore, funds NGOs that facilitate rural industries such as organic farming/markets, dairy, weaving, and other

local skills of villagers. These programs aim to empower villagers through microcredit loans and training to

create sustainable livelihoods, while ensuring socially just and eco-friendly development in rural India.

    5. Healthcare and Family Planning Awareness

Access to healthcare is amongst the most basic of human needs. With Indias exploding rural population, family

planning is an equally important issue. IDRF supports various projects that provide healthcare in rural areas,

towns and cities to those who cannot afford for-profit healthcare establishments. Specifically, IDRF funds make

available mobile medical clinics in villages and tribal areas, and treatment centers to provide for medical

procedures. Our grants also support programs that promote good health practices like pre- and postnatal care,

immunizations and nutrition, alternative medicines, yoga, as well as educates on AIDS and family planning.

    6. Emergency Relief and Post-Disaster Development

Providing relief to victims of disasters such as cyclones and earthquakes, as well as for victims of man-made

calamities (such as Kargil war) is an important component of IDRFs mission. For instance, we are funding

school dormitories for children affected by insurgency and terrorism in J & K. IDRF is also supporting post-

Gujarat earthquake development, providing for clean water supply and sanitation in the afflicted villages and

creating opportunities for local artisans to enhance their skills, and showcase their work in a competitive market.
