Confidence Level Definitions
We use the term confidence level to describe the likelihood that the items on the roadmap will be delivered at the dates
shown on the timeline. There are many factors that impact our ability to predict delivery including but not limited to:
• Customer priorities – Our releases are driven by customer feedback and prioritization. Sometimes the priorities change
due to any number of external factors. At any time, we may change the priorities in any given future release to better
reflect our customers’ interests.
• Quality Targets – Each of our product releases undergoes a stringent quality assurance process prior to release. Should
a particular capability not meet our quality targets, we may choose to defer that specific capability to a future release or
not complete the development of that capability at all.
• Design Constraints – In response to customer feedback, we attempt to provide visibility beyond the next product
release. In doing so, we share capabilities that reflect customer requests but have not gone through the technical design
phase. In some cases, the technical design phase will reveal a larger level of effort and dependencies that make the
original timeframe infeasible. Further, the design phase could reveal that the capability is not technically feasible at all or
not cost effective resulting in abandonment of effort.
• Budget Cycles – For roadmaps that might include visibility beyond the current Ellucian fiscal year budget, all items are
subject to financial progress against goals and the availability of funds for that particular project in future budget cycles.
• Engineering Forecasting Accuracy – All roadmap items are subject to some level of forecasting accuracy imprecision
resulting in certain functionality pushing out to later releases on a roadmap timeline.
The further out the release date, the higher the likelihood that one or more of these factors will impact the accuracy of our
roadmaps. That is why we clearly indicate less than 100% confidence for our next release even though it may scheduled to
be released in the short-term, and why we use decreasing confidence levels for items that are further out on the roadmap.

Usability
What you’ve told us…
Ease of use must be the focus for any new product development.
Modern interfaces. I know you are working on it. F10 to save is a bit
antiquated
Naming of the different areas is awkward to remember and therefore to
use. It is definitely not intuitive. For example: SPACMNT is the area for
student contact notes. What do those letters have to do with the actual use of the area? Most are that way and hard to
recall.
It is too complicated. The form names add to the complication…

What is Usability?
Usability is a quality attribute that assesses how easy user interfaces
are to use. The word "usability" also refers to methods for improving
ease-of-use during the design process. Usability is defined by 5
quality components:
Learnability: How easy is it for users to accomplish basic tasks the
first time they encounter the design?
Efficiency: Once users have learned the design, how quickly can they
perform tasks?
Memorability: When users return to the design after a period of not
using it, how easily can they reestablish proficiency?
Errors: How many errors do users make, how severe are these
errors, and how easily can they recover from the errors?
Satisfaction: How pleasant is it to use the design?

Ellucian XE Technology
What you’ve told us… I am pretty new to higher education,
and hence Banner. There does seem to be some basic registrar functionality
that we have custom processes for and use custom built tables. I wish I could
be more specific. I'm hoping that Banner 9 will help close this gap. I
accepted this position in order to work with Groovy/Grails etc.
Focus on providing APIs or scripts to automate every functionality -
comprehensive updating of student curriculum information, enhanced data load and processing capabilities. For example, load transcript data to the transfer articulation worksheets and articulate automatically. As far as I
know, this functionality does not yet exist and must be
developed/maintained in-house
I think the move to a server based java application (banner 9), will
provide much more flexibility for local needs, but I'm not sure how soon we will be able to get there.
Banner is such a big database, that it is what it is... but hopefully it
integrate seamlessly with Recruiter since that is a significant reason
we chose it.

What you’ve told us…
Make upgrades less demanding so we could actually have time to
implement new features.
Make Self-Service pages more "configurable". We have added and/or modified many pages to
provide functionality that does not currently exist but that our users
demand.
Provide user the ability to add fields from various tables to
existing banner forms
More and more flexible fields for institution-specific student data in the basic product. We have a 'no
customization' policy which is good for product integrity and
maintenance, but leaves us searching for work arounds for
adding specific data.

What you’ve told us…
Make it wasier to maintain.
Streamline the upgrade process for point releases. Have a
dependency checker in place.
Make access to releases much easier
More and more flexible fields for institution-specific student data in the
basic product. We have a 'no customization' policy which is good for product integrity and maintenance, but leaves us searching for work arounds
for adding specific data.
