What does it mean to be “gifted” in RTM?

Gifted Learner High Achiever

Asks questions, is curious Knows the answers

Comprehends at a high level

Infers and connects concepts Grasps the meaning

Shows strong feeling and opinions

1-2 repetitions for mastery 6-8 repetitions for mastery

What are the procedures to have a child “looked at”?

Collect data: Progress report, MAP and PSSA data, teacher observation

Request a screening (parent or teacher):

Screening involves: QRI and Math Inventory: administered by guidance counselor and reading specialist

Screening determines if the student will receive a full-scale evaluation

What are the criteria for enrollment into AGP?

AGP Criteria: 130 FSIQ or above and/or multiple

criteriaMultiple criteria include:

98th percentile or higher on MAP assessments (should be more than once)

2 or more years above in reading and/or math In NEED of specially designed instruction that cannot occur in the regular education classroom

Based on conclusive information from the GWR (Gifted Written Report) a GIEP will be written or

Based on inconclusive information from the GWR a GMDT meeting will be held to determine proper placement

Interesting Facts

Truly gifted students make up only 2-3% of the population .

As of the 2011-2012 school year, students at Springton Lake and Penncrest will have access to all of the same level classes regardless of whether they have been identified as “gifted” or not.
