Take The Time to Plan Your New Dining Room

Time to reorganize and remodel

Over recent years the average US dining room has been undergoing a bit of a change. Where once its sole purpose was to provide a place to sit and eat together it has now taken on the roles of office, hobby area, storage space and study.

Perhaps its time to reorganise and remodel this vital part of your home?

Functionality As Well As Style

Consider if you want to continue with the multi-purpose aspect of this room or pair down its functions to provide only a room for entertaining.

Place any IT equipment behind a screen or in attractive workstation units that can be folded down when in use but packed away from sight when not required.

Dispose of all unnecessary paperwork and tidy up that toy collection by storing it in matching baskets or boxes.

Accessibility

Serving crockery, glasses and cutlery should be easily reached not tucked in behind another piece of furniture.

If space is limited divide your dining plates and other items between here and the kitchen.

If your dining room is next to the kitchen consider building a handy serving hatch so you don't have doors and passageways to negotiate with plates of food.

Storage Is Always A Problem

Storage should no longer be an issue as there are many new and multi-functional items that can be bought for your home.

A traditional sideboard can provide a wealth of storage space for glassware, cutlery and crockery while doubling up as a spot for the music system.

For the small dining room there are corner or slimline units available in many attractive and unusual designs.

Don't Forget About The Lighting

Be more adventurous than a single light bulb in the middle of the room.

When the room is multi-functional there will be a need for different levels of light so install dimmer switches.

Candles grouped around the room will further enhance the dining experience for all your guests.
