Kindest Kansas Citian...Did you Know? Sister Eman was nomi-

nated by one of her student

as the Kindest Kansas Cit-

ian. The objective of this

annual city-wide contest is

for kids to define kindness

and identify adult role mod-

els who demonstrate kind,

caring, and respectful be-

havior that the students

would like to emulate in

their lives. Zain Viles is a

kindergartener at Blue Riv-

er Elementary school and

also, along with his little

brother, is an ICJC Quran

School student in Sister

Eman's class. Zain saw

these qualities in the way

Sister Eman interacts with

the kids in his class. In his

simple words he wrote

"She is a nice person. She

helps many kids. She is

really patient with kids

especially my brother who

cannot sit still. She is never an-

gry and always happy and care

[for] all her students".

Sister Eman will be hon-

ored by Blue River Elementary

school in May for this nomina-

tion. ICJC wants to thank Zain

and his family for this recogni-

tion and a big kudos to Sister

Eman for being such a caring,

kind teacher who inspires her

students and leads them by ex-

less than them. SubhanAllah

we are blessed with very

creative and inspiring young

minds.

Alhamdulillah the

school year 2014-2015 is

coming to a close. Last day

of regular classes is May

10th and the Sunday school is

planning a year-end celebra-

tion on May 17th. The ICJC

Sunday School Staff would like

to invite all the members of the

community to attend the year-

end celebration of the Sunday

school. Come and see the chil-

dren perform and appreciate the

hard work that they put in dur-

ing the school year. The event

will take place at Blue Valley

Middle School from 10:00 am to

12:30 pm InshaAllah.

On Sunday April 12th,

the students at Sunday

school created Eid cards for

displaced children in Syria

under the sponsorship of

Humanity Without Borders

Inc., a non-profit organiza-

tion. Students used their

imagination and artistic skills

to create beautiful cards for

children who have so much

ICJC Women’s Committee Update ICJC Women’s Com-

mittee hosted an informative

workshop on "How to Pre-

vent a Heart Attack." The

presenter was our very own,

Dr. Zafir Hawa, a cardiologist

at the North Kansas City

Hospital. Dr. Hawa explained

the risk factors that contrib-

ute to heart attacks, warning

signs, and medical devices

used to treat cardiac patients.

The question and answer

session at the end was ex-

tremely valuable, as the audi-

ence asked about uses of

aspirin in heart attack preven-

tion and heart scans to detect

calcification in the heart.

The month ended with a

ladies only swimming event.

Women and girls enjoyed a

fun evening where some

swam while others chatted or

just kicked the water. A spe-

cial thank you to the Blue

Valley Recreation Center for

making this women only

event possible.

We would like to thank all the volun-

teers, the parents who attended the

events and the families that donated the

food for the after-event pizza party at

ICJC.

During the celebration, Ayan Ma-

lek was recognized as the 7th Hafiz at

ICJC. Ayan enrolled in ICJC Quran

Academy about two years ago and

ICJC Quran Academy celebrated

11th KC Quran Competition Award

Ceremony at Blue Valley West High

School Auditorium on April 19,

2015. Various gift, trophies, medals,

and certificates were awarded to 110

children and 4 adults . Both Sheikhs

Nasser and Dahee led with Quran Reci-

tation and Duaa in addition to Nasheed.

Alhamdulillah was able to realize his

dream by earning this honor. ICJC con-

gratulates Ayan and his family on this

inspiring accomplishment.

Alaa, Malek, Nurdeen, Motassim,

Osama, Adam, and now Ayan... with

many more on the same path to suc-

cess InshaAllah.

Quran Academy Update

Alhamdulillah, ICJC Library col-

lected more than 60 books through

book drive. We are so blessed to

have a sister (Nuzdha) from Saudi

Arabia who saw our book drive ad in

her sister's ( Fairoz Mundoc) facebook

timeline and shipped a large number

of Islamic books for our Library. Li-

brary is open each week Monday

through Friday from 6:30 to 7:30 pm.

Preschool puppet show and Story

time is on Thursday May 21st at 4:30

pm.

Silent Noise Did you know that ICJC

played host as the only Kansas

Masjid to the much talked about

Muaddhin project? Yes the

Muaddhin came to ICJC on April

5th and the visitors were visibly

blown away by the quality of our

Quran teachers and taught!

The Muaddhin story was picked

by NBC, CAIR and other local and

regional media outlets, which includ-

ed a spotlight on ICJC Quran stu-

dents.
