formed the community that once
all outstanding payments are
made, the construction account
would have a small negative bal-
ance. Funds therefore are urgent-
ly required to continue the con-
struction activity. The meeting,
Alhamdulillah, saw an outpouring
of concern and commitment to
explore all avenues for raising
funds.
Donations for the pro-
ject are urgently needed and
can be made via checks to
ICJC or through online dona-
tions at icjc.org.
Last newsletter referred
to an upcoming release of a
special edition of Newsletter
dedicated to construction
only. The construction com-
mittee decided to make this
special edition LIVE. On
April 26th, a construction up-
date meeting open to the
community was held at the
Tomahawk Community Cen-
ter. The meeting was attend-
ed by Design Architect
Brother Chris McCoy who
delivered our Masjid design.
Brother Chris was invited by
ISNA as a subject matter ex-
pert for building Masajids in
North America during 2014
ISNA convention. Other
attendees included the local
Architect Don Bozich, Struc-
tural Engineer Earl Rollison
and our very own Brother
Raouf Baha (Keiwit Construc-
tion) besides the other mem-
bers of the construction
committee. The update in-
cluded a brief history of how
the community earned the
construction permit leading
to the commencement of
construction activity. The
community was informed of
the progress till date, the
next steps planned and the
financial picture.
Much discussion was
centered on the financial part
of the project. The construc-
tion committee informed the
community that till date pay-
ments/contracts for a total
$1,383,000 have been made.
These payment/contracts are

Kindest Kansas Citian...Did you Know? Sister Eman was nomi-
nated by one of her student
as the Kindest Kansas Cit-
ian. The objective of this
annual city-wide contest is
for kids to define kindness
and identify adult role mod-
els who demonstrate kind,
caring, and respectful be-
havior that the students
would like to emulate in
their lives. Zain Viles is a
kindergartener at Blue Riv-
er Elementary school and
also, along with his little
brother, is an ICJC Quran
School student in Sister
Eman's class. Zain saw
these qualities in the way
Sister Eman interacts with
the kids in his class. In his
simple words he wrote
"She is a nice person. She
helps many kids. She is
really patient with kids
especially my brother who
cannot sit still. She is never an-
gry and always happy and care
[for] all her students".
Sister Eman will be hon-
ored by Blue River Elementary
school in May for this nomina-
tion. ICJC wants to thank Zain
and his family for this recogni-
tion and a big kudos to Sister
Eman for being such a caring,
kind teacher who inspires her
students and leads them by ex-

less than them. SubhanAllah
we are blessed with very
creative and inspiring young
minds.
Alhamdulillah the
school year 2014-2015 is
coming to a close. Last day
of regular classes is May
10th and the Sunday school is
planning a year-end celebra-
tion on May 17th. The ICJC
Sunday School Staff would like
to invite all the members of the
community to attend the year-
end celebration of the Sunday
school. Come and see the chil-
dren perform and appreciate the
hard work that they put in dur-
ing the school year. The event
will take place at Blue Valley
Middle School from 10:00 am to
12:30 pm InshaAllah.
On Sunday April 12th,
the students at Sunday
school created Eid cards for
displaced children in Syria
under the sponsorship of
Humanity Without Borders
Inc., a non-profit organiza-
tion. Students used their
imagination and artistic skills
to create beautiful cards for
children who have so much

ICJC Women’s Committee Update ICJC Women’s Com-
mittee hosted an informative
workshop on "How to Pre-
vent a Heart Attack." The
presenter was our very own,
Dr. Zafir Hawa, a cardiologist
at the North Kansas City
Hospital. Dr. Hawa explained
the risk factors that contrib-
ute to heart attacks, warning
signs, and medical devices
used to treat cardiac patients.
The question and answer
session at the end was ex-
tremely valuable, as the audi-
ence asked about uses of
aspirin in heart attack preven-
tion and heart scans to detect
calcification in the heart.
The month ended with a
ladies only swimming event.
Women and girls enjoyed a
fun evening where some
swam while others chatted or
just kicked the water. A spe-
cial thank you to the Blue
Valley Recreation Center for
making this women only
event possible.

of Islamic books for our Library. Li-
brary is open each week Monday
through Friday from 6:30 to 7:30 pm.

Silent Noise Did you know that ICJC
played host as the only Kansas
Masjid to the much talked about
Muaddhin project? Yes the

5th and the visitors were visibly
blown away by the quality of our
Quran teachers and taught!
The Muaddhin story was picked
by NBC, CAIR and other local and
