Invitation to the Inaugural Central University of Technology ICIT Schools Tournament &

ST AUGUSTINES Library pre launch

Dear sir/madam

The Central University of Technology (CUT), Bloemfontein campus is proud to invite you to its

inaugural Inter Class Intellect Tournament (ICIT). The ICIT competition is a Spelling Bee, Public

Speaking, Essay Writing, Poetry and Chess tournament that will see the participation of 1 school in a

tournament at the newly erected library centre at ST Augustines Primary School in Thaba Nchu , an

effort aimed at reviving the culture of debate & critical thinking in our local Bloemfontein district

schools.

The ICIT is an initiative of the Department of Education, The Central University of Technology and its

private partners and will entail 3 phases, namely;

Phase One

Candidates(school learners) were identified for various activities on the 14th of March 2016 for a

participation in ICIT an aggregate of 51 learners was accumulated between Grade 4-6 as candidates

to participate on the 08th of April 2016. The training ahead of the competition on public speaking and

writing competition will be facilitated by the CUT Debate Society members and the Writing

Department of CUT were necessary.

Phase Two

The letters of invites of the competition were forwarded to the teachers then guardians for their

support on the day. Candidates will then be tasked to work on their respective pieces of creativity

and the registration will be free of charge per learner.

Phase Three

The respective school delegations will be hosted by the Central University of Technology together with

the Department of Education and its partners at the Library in ST Augustines Primary School (Thaba

Nchu) on the 08th of April 2016 , wherein they will compete to win grand prizes (Certificates & Awards)

for their performances , snacks and refreshments will be available for the participants. The spelling

Bee candidates particularly will then be assisted to advance and register for the Provincial and National

Tournaments by the Department of Education.

On the 28th of May there will be an official launch and the winners from Pre Launch will compete with

those of other Motheo District schools which will be invited after the pre launch as well as Xhariep

district schools which we are already liaising through Department of Basic Education on the Debates

and Public Speaking initiatives and competitions. Hope to hear from you soon!
