As one of Malaysia's oldest, most successful and reputable private education institutions, Taylor's University has achieved multiple awards, including ‘Most Popular Private College and/or University in Malaysia’ out of more than 100 other institutions.

PROJECT BACKGROUNDIn keeping with our reputation, we decide to enhance our service to students and visitors by providing one-of-its-kind transportation service: Free shutter service from the parking lots to the main campus entrance.

A buggy stop complete with roof shelter for two no.10-person buggies is to be constructed. The buggy stop is to have an attached waiting shelter of a size to accommodate 20 students/visitors at anyone one time.

The condition of the existing site is shown in Appendix A herewith.

PROJECT REQUIREMENTS

The design of the buggy stop must compliment with the overall design of the campus. The buggy stop structural frame, column and beam support may be designed with

reinforced concrete or structural steel option to suit the practicality of the site condition and constraints.

The planning and design of the buggy stop is to adhere to requirements set by the relevant by-laws and codes of practices, including the following, but not limited to:

I. Uniform Building By-laws;II. Town & Country Planning Act;

III. Jabatan Bomba dan Penyelamat Malaysia (JBPM)IV. Department of Occupational Safety and Health (JKKP)V. Department of Electricity Supply and Gas (JBEG);

VI. Suruhanjaya Tenaga Malaysia (TNB);VII. Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (SYABAS)

VIII. Department of Occupational Safety and Health Regulations;IX. Relevant Malaysian Standards, British Building Standards and other

Standards approved by local authorities.X. Majlis Perbandaraan Subang Jaya (MPSJ)

The buggy stop’s form, façade treatment and structural form shall be harmonious and aesthetically pleasing with the surrounding and unique as a landmark.

All works carried out by the contractor shall be subject to quality assessment carried out by representative from Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB)

CONTRACT REQUIREMENTS Form of contract to be Pertubuhan Arkitek Malaysia (PAM) form. Insurance coverage for Third Party Liability to be minimum RM1, 000,000. The Liquidated and Ascertain Damage (LAD) to be RM500 per day for delays caused by

contractor’s own fault. The performance bond shall be 5% of the contract sum in a form of banker’s guarantee. The Defects Liability Period is 12 months from Certificate of Practical Completion for Building

Works. The period of honouring payment certificate shall be 30 days from the date of receipt of

Certificate by the Employer.

ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN REQUIREMENTS The selection and proposal of the materials and finishes are to be:

I. Well designedII. Of good quality and conforming to ISO and relevant building code standards.

III. Inexpensive for procurement, maintenance and replacement.IV. Of good visual compatibility to the surrounding area.V. Of low maintenance and/or high durability in daily wear and tear.

The planning and design of the buggy stop is to considered and incorporate the following environmental factors;

I. Solar path, reflectivity and shadingII. Natural Ventilation

III. Solar/heat gain and lossIV. Location of fan unitsV. Natural wind patterns and wind loading

VI. External shading and rain coverVII. Adequate landscaping

Selection of planting shall complement the surrounding landscape and comply with authority guidelines.

ELECTRICAL REQUIREMENTS All fluorescent lamps shall be PLC square downlight c/w tempered glass diffuser All lighting circuits shall be provided with contactors, timers and by manual pass switches for

control. All wall and ceiling fans shall be KDK brand.

The general requirements are as follows: The buggy stop shall be designed and constructed to ensure structural

integrity and serviceability and satisfy the requirements of aesthetics. Generally, all structural steel and reinforced concrete structures shall be

designed in accordance with BS 5950 and BS 8110 respectively.

The following code of practice and standards shall be complied with:I. Uniform Building By-Laws(Malaysia) 1984

II. BS 6399-Part 1 : Code of Practice for Dead and Imposed LoadIII. BS 6399-Part 2 : Wind LoadsIV. BS 6399-Part 3 : Code of Practice for Imposed Roof LoadsV. BS 8110 (1997) : Structural Use of Concrete

VI. BS 5950 (2000) : Structural Use of Steelwork in BuildingVII. BS 8004 : Code of Practice for Foundations

The following loads and forces shall be considered in the structural design: Dead Load Imposed Load Wind Load Equipment Load such as ceiling fans and lightings.

All structural materials incorporated in the works shall comply with relevant Malaysian Standards or British Standards. The following material grade shall be used:

I. Concrete for all reinforced concrete structures shall be Grade 25 or higher. Grade 43A shall be adopted for structural steel.

II. Cement shall be Portland cement complying to BS 12:1978 or MS.522III. The quality of structural steel shall be in accordance with B.S. 4360IV. The welding of steel shall comply with B.S. 5135V. Mild steel reinforcement shall comply to B.S. 4449

VI. High yield stress steel reinforcement shall comply to B.S. 4461VII. Welded steel fabric shall comply to B.S. 4483

SITE LOCATION AND SIZE

Located near the entrance of Taylor’s University Lakeside Campus’s ZONE H Parking Area shown at Appendix A.

Site area of 8mx20m, beside the existing car park. The existing ground condition is generally concrete pavement with patches of bushes as

shown at Appendix A.

BUDGET The budget for the project including construction cost, professional fees and authorities

charges is not exceeding RM100,000 The professional fees (including architectural, civil and structural, mechanical and electrical

and Quantity Surveying) shall be a total 15% of the contract sum.

TIMEFRAME

The timeframe from inception to completion of project is allowed at 6 months. Expected completion: January 2014.

RESTRICTION

All workers are not allowed to use the campus’s facilities such as toilets and canteen. Contractor to provide portable toilets on site.

All workers accommodation is not allowed on site. No work is allowed to start on site before 8am and after 6pm, Monday to Sunday. The contractor must register all his workers, sub-contractors, lorry drivers etc. with the

University to obtain security passes before starting work on site. All workers are to present the security passes to the University security guards before

entering the campus. Contractor should refrain from noisy machinery on site. All machinery should be equipped with sound insulators and smoke emission from machines

must be controlled. The construction site must be fenced around.
