Introduction to Final Project

This project requires student to construct a

project that serves a specific purpose chosen

by lecturers. Lecturers had chosen one out of

the five purposes to every group, that are

recreation area, study enhancement area, rest

area, food and beverage(dining area) or

commercial area(exclude food and

beverage).After getting their topic, students

would have to choose a site within the campus

and the site should not be more than

30x30m.Student should do research and

analysis before deciding of the construction

project.

Site analysis

The site we had chosen is on the roof garden at

Level 2,

right at the end of Block E. Our site is

approximately 27m x 15m. It is a public space

roof terrace and an open space with only a

partial roof by the side. It has railing of 1.2

metres high along the side of the site. There is

a roof of 3 metres extending out from the right

railing of the site. Looking out towards the

south, there is a car park area and a sports

court. Looking out towards the west, there is a

view of the opposite roof terrace of the same

level. Looking towards the east, there is a view

of large trees and residential area. There is a

view of the Taylor’s lake on the south-west.

Understanding of Commercial Area

Commercial activities include the buying

and selling of goods and services in retail

businesses, wholesale buying and selling,

financial establishments, and wide variety

of services that are broadly classified as

"business".

Even though commercial activities use only

a small amount of land, they are extremely

important to a community’s economy.

Some examples of commercial area

buildings include the following:

Bank

Gas station

Grocery store

Office

buildings

Restaurant

Shopping

Students (or anyone working in campus) can have make enquiries in campus. There are also ATM machines in the bank.

Suggestion: Stationery Shop

Rationale:

The site is closer to the design and architecture studio, so the students can get their supplies there quickly and more conveniently.

Some design of these shops:

13

Page 14: ICI Final Project

- small and wouldn’t be too tall- with roofs (not open on top)- walkway in shop are not too wide (one way

in and out)

Materials of the Construction Project

Benches:

In front of the shops so that after students buy their things or visit the bank, they can check on their items or just work as a small rest area.

Plants:

Decorating purposes, and also to capture attention so that people would visit the areas. There can be little shrubs or flowering plants. These plants help to create a peaceful and greener area.

Benefits and n eeds of the construction project to the

client and community

1. This project plans the usage of space

efficiently that benefits bonding of people.

2. Would look nice with the shops to bring

that place to life.

3. Much more convenient for students

and staff to check their account and

withdraw money from the bank.

4. Much more convenient to buy

stationery in the shop than going to the

commercial blocks if students need it

urgent.

5. Enhance scenery of the place because

it looks empty if there is no shops.

6. Creating more business in the campus

and improve social issues.

17
