    Crowd enjoys variety at Diamond RV Lebanon Valley Dragway National Open

    Comp, Super Stock, Stock, SuperComp, Super Gas, and Super Streetracers competed on a beautifulspring Sunday at Lebanon Valley Dragwayat the Diamond RV National Open, May 2-4, the third race in the four-race series inthe Northeast Division. With more than300 participants, the big crowd wastreated to quite a variety of race vehicles.

    The second edition of the DiamondRV Center Lebanon Valley NationalOpen not only attracted more partici-pants, but also more spectators, whowere treated to fantastic racing. The fes-tivities kicked off with time trials andqualifying Saturday under sunny skiesand in cool temperatures. Numerousrecords were set, and the teardown barnwas busy until late into the evening. JohnArmstrong reclaimed the SS/BA recordwith a stellar 8.98 after receiving addi-tional horsepower in the not-too-distantpast. In Stock, the record holders wereTom Baird, Dean Cook III, JohnnyWilliams, Cecil Frazier, Adam Weisburg,Howie Smith, and Keith Sansone.

    The show action included the wheel-standers of Danny O’Day and RichardHutchins. Also on hand were severalPro Modified drivers: Ron Iannotti andhis Corvette, Terry Hall in his ’36 coupe,Jim Kane and his ’69 Camaro, PatrickDoherty and Steve Salvadore in their’57 Chevys, Kasey Janzen in his ’93

    Lumina, Sal Pasarelli in his ’68 Nova,Fred Jacobs in his ’94 LeBaron, CarlBullock and Sam Madej in their ’41Willys, and Paul Athey in his ’69 Dart.The show also featured the Top FuelHarley of Jim Doyle, the Super Mario jetFunny Car, Ken Hall driving the HannaMotorsports jet Funny Car, and stunt

    bikes from 3 twenty 2 performing duringdowntime.

    At 10:30 a.m., the National Openracing action began with Super Streetand continued throughout the day. InComp, Allyn Armstrong took the tophonor by defeating Charlie Yannetti in an
