2014 ANNUAL IMPACT REPORT

Page 2: I would like to thank the whole Camelot staff for their ... · and should do for their child to prepare them to be a successful and independent adult. Camelot aims to provide a safety

First, I would be remiss if I did not say a heartfelt thank you to our Board of Directors, staff, families, children, donors, supports and advocates for the daily effort and determination put forth by each and every one of you. Thank you!

Thank you for taking the time to look through our Impact Report to the community. Though-out the report you will see some of our programming, our financial statements, but most importantly we hope you will see the impact that you have been a part of.

For example, our Homeless Youth Program which is new to Camelot where in under a year over 100 youth transitioned from the streets and into stable housing. Thanks to the support of our community, many of these youth are employed and/or have re-enrolled in school to finish their GED or their post-secondary degree. We could not do this work successfully without the Lazydays Employee Foundation, USF’s Kosove Society, Ybor Youth Clinic, and the many mentors, tutors and volunteers who spend their time working with the youth.

We have experienced joys and successes in many areas during the past year.

Our adoptions program continues to find forever families for children in Hillsborough County, Fl. This past year, more than 200 adoptions were finalized and over 3,000 since 2005.

Our Therapeutic Foster Care program has implemented a Trauma Informed Care training program for foster parents, making them an integral part of the therapeutic team and leading to a much greater level of stability and success for the child. This training was made possible through a grant from Florida Medical Clinic Foundation of Caring.

Our school based Partial Hospitalization Program in Ohio continues to grow to more and more school districts who see the benefits of providing behavioral services in the school in order to reduce suspensions and open the doors for these students to stay in school.

As I sit back and reflect on our past year, I realize that much has changed here at Camelot. We have added new programs, we have restructured our leadership team, and we have partnered with all of you to see our mission of seeing children and families reach their fullest potential come true.

None of this is possible without our amazing Camelot family, and I thank each and every one of you for your support and dedication to Camelot and the over 6,000 children we serve every day.

I invite you to take a few moments to look through our report and join with me in celebrating the impact you have been a part of.

Most Sincerely,

Michael DiBrizziPresident/CEO

IMPACT ON ADVOCACYMeet Rachel Nunn, Ms. Florida State 2015.

Rachel advocates locally and nationally for children in foster care, and takes her role as an advocate very seriously. She understands that quality foster and adoptive parents are needed and spends her time and resources educating the public about children in care.

An attorney by profession, Rachel spent several years as an assistant attorney general in Tampa, litigating cases involving child abuse, neglect and abandonment.

A mother of 4, one who is adopted, she has a special place in her heart for teens, especially those that may age out of the system without being adopted.

“I want people to be aware that kids in foster care are fabulous kids. They are brought into the system due to abuse, abandonment or neglect in their home, not through any fault of their own. Every child deserves love, every child deserves a safe, stable home, and it is never too late to provide that, whether the child is 2 years old or 21 years old,” says Rachel.

Rachel started competing in pageants a few years ago as a way to help her stay fit and give her a public platform to advocate for kids. She was crowned Mrs. Florida International in 2014 and then won the title of Ms. Florida State 2015 which will take her to compete in the Ms. America pageant this August in California.

IMPACT ON CHILDREN AND FAMILIESEach day, Camelot provides services to over 6,000 children and families with services that aim to protect children, preserve families, and achieve permanency and stability for the children in our care. In the 2013-2014 fiscal year Camelot provided child welfare and behavioral health services to over 11,000 children.

In-Home Counseling:

Camelot’s In-Home Counseling Program provides counseling and psychiatric services to clients in their home, school or in the community. Our programs utilize several evidenced based practices including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Functional Family Therapy, Multi-Dimensional Family Therapy, and others. The level of service provided to each client and/or their family is based upon the individual needs of the client.

Adoption:

Since 2005 Camelot has finalized over 3000 adoptions. This past year, 270 children have found their forever families through adoption. Camelot is proud to have amazing recruitment staff and programs that strive to bring families together. Two of Camelot’s successful recruitment programs include the Children’s Board Heart Gallery of Tampa Bay, funded in part by the Children’s Board of Hillsborough County and – thanks to a grant from the Dave Thomas Foundation – two recruiters funded through the Wendy’s Wonderful Kids recruitment program.

Foster Care:

We appreciate our foster parents and the amazing job they do every day. Camelot manages 338 foster homes across the state of Florida, and quality care that nurtures the child and helps them move on from past hurts is important to us. This past year Camelot brought specialized Trauma Informed Parenting training to our foster parents, equipping them to better care for the children in their care.

Partial Hospitalization:

This school based program in six school districts around Cincinnati, Ohio allows children at risk of expulsion to remain in school by providing needed mental and behavioral health services at school. Children attend their regular academic classes for half of the school day and spend the other half in our therapeutic classrooms where they can attend group and individual counseling that addresses their mental health needs.

Homeless Youth Services:

Since its inception in 2010, the Homeless Youth Program, founded by Lazydays Employee Foundation and administered by Camelot since 2013, has provided a safe and nurturing environment that empowers homeless youth to change their circumstances and achieve stability in the areas of housing, education and employment.

Through a variety of services like: street outreach, intensive case management, peer mentorship and crisis intervention; and partnerships with agencies like Ybor Youth Clinic, Hillsborough County Sheriff, and USF’s Kosove Society over 500 youth ages 18-24 have been served, with over 70% of them experiencing long term successful outcomes like maintaining employment, housing stability, high school graduation, GED completion and college or trade school enrolment.

University of Tampa Students developed a strategic funding plan for homeless youth program.

“I think Camelot is a very good place to help people deal with the issues they have at school or home.

I know it helped me. I would recommend this to friends.

IMPACT ON TEENS AND YOUNG ADULTS SERVED THROUGH FOSTER CARECamelot’s Independent Living Services (ILS) is responsible for the coordination and implementation of service to 13-17 year old teens in the foster care system as they prepare to turn 18 years old, as well as providing assistance to young adults ages 18-22 who have aged out of the foster care system. Every day Camelot provides case management to over 700 youth in our ILS programs across the state of Florida.

The dedicated ILS staff within our program attempt to fill a gap through education, support, guidance and nurturing that a family would and should do for their child to prepare them to be a successful and independent adult. Camelot aims to provide a safety net for our fragile foster youth as they move out on their own often times without the support of a permanent family.

These teens and young adults experience great success through Camelot’s programming.

• 78% graduation rate, state average is 65%, national average is below 50%

• 99% are able to maintain stable housing, national average is 75%

• 60% are enrolled in postsecondary education, state average is 20%, national average is 2%

GEORGINA’ STORYAfter leaving foster care at the age of 18 Georgina struck out on her own. She had stayed connected with Camelot’s Independent Living office, where she always felt was the one place that welcomed her with open arms, but did not seek help that first year out of foster care until she found herself homeless and failing college.

Georgina’s Independent Living case manager immediately provided the resources, encouragement, and “tough love” needed for her to get back on the straight and narrow. She also arranged for a Camelot foster family to take her in. In Georgina’s words, this family became that beacon of hope and new beginnings.

With Camelot’s help, Georgina was linked to counselors, stayed enrolled in community college, and helped her create the safety net she so desperately needed!

“I found stability here,” said Georgina, “and I realized I do have a family – and that family is Camelot.”

Today, Georgina is a thriving 23-year-old full time university student.

She is a tremendous advocate for kids in foster care. Interning in Washington, D.C., Georgina worked on important legislation which she presented to congress, and currently is the chairperson of a state-wide committee of current and former foster youth striving to improve the child welfare system here in Florida.

Georgina is majoring in Social Work and wants to work for Camelot’s Independent Living Program upon graduation…and you know what? We want her, too!

“You are all in a difficult line of work. Seeking to serve “the least of these” can be tiring. Each of my daughter’s counselors and the folks at Camelot have seen our family at its worst and also as

we have started to heal and become whole. A big part of our recovery was the support we received from Camelot.

Thank you.“
