Rebekah at the Well

Genesis 24 tells how Abraham tasked his eldest servant with finding a suitable wife from among his kinsmen, for his son Isaac. The servant travelled to a town called Nahor where he stopped by a well. It was evening and the time when women went to draw water. While the servant was praying for God’s guidance, Rebekah arrived at the well. The servant requested some water to drink. She immediately agreed and gave him some water to drink. Then, without being asked, she drew water for his ten camels to drink. This was no easy task. MY NEW SMARTPHONE Published 3 Jan 2017

The smartphone is just so amazing! I can publish posts on my blog via my phone, and having easy

access to whatsapp, facebook, instagram and twitter is amazing! I can find out and keep track of what my friends, and everyone in the world is doing! I can also share about myself - and hopefully gain more followers that way :D. The only problem is that my mum keeps nagging me to stop looking at my phone during mealtimes. Ugh Parents!

SELF REFLECTION Published 25 May 2019

Looking back at what I wrote two years ago, I can’t believe how foolish I was. How could I have thought that keeping up with social media was more important than

building relationships with my family members and schoolmates! Glad Mum and Dad practised tough love, allowing me to use the phone (and social media) only on weekends, and after I had finished my homework. I now realize that while whatsapp, twitter, facebook and instagram can be fun tools, keeping abreast of the ‘latest’ news is a waste of time. Ultimately, what is most important for me is to ’do all to the glory of God’ (1 Cor 10:31) and that means making sure my time, talents and whatever I have are not wasted in meaningless things that will pass away. Thank God for teaching me. May this lesson help those who are struggling likewise.

Jerome’s BlogpostsMY PHONE GOT CONFISCATEDPublished 16 May 2017

I’m entering this blogpost through my computer. Why?It’s all because of Dad! Last night he (stole) took my phone while I was sleeping - all because I watched a video while we were having ‘family dinner’.OK - also because my school teacher called him to complain that I had not been doing my school work. Schoolwork is seriously so boring!!! I have better things to do like keep up with the latest happenings on social media.. I hope I get back my phone soon...

We believe that the Bible is the pure, undiluted Word of God. The Holy Scriptures contain the will of God, and teach us how to live a life pleasing to God. God’s Word has the power to make us more Christ-like.

Although the Bible was written by many authors,

there is an amazing unity

Jesus Christ.

While a thirsty person drinks between 500ml to one litre at one time, a thirsty camel can drink more than 100 times that amount!Rebekah could have just given water to the servant, but she went out of her way and provided water for all ten camels. Her actions convinced the servant that she

Satan’s first attack in the Garden of Eden was by questioning the Word of God. Hence, we must study the Bible seriously

to prevent ourselves from being deceived by false teachers.

Seeing God in nature around us

Have you ever wondered why you’re usually advised to put on sunscreen before heading outdoors? This is because the Sun’s ultraviolet (UV) radiation is harmful to both our skin and eyes. Did you know that God has designed a natural layer of protection around our Earth that filters out most of these harmful UV rays? This protective shield is the ozone layer, a region about 10km-50km above sea level that absorbs most of the Sun’s ultraviolet rays. If Ozone molecules were found at ground level, it would cause

respiratory problems to humans and animals. Without the ozone layer, however, sunburn, skin cancer, and cataracts would be more widespread. Plants would also be damaged and plankton populations would be reduced, in turn affecting the food chains in the sea.Let us be thankful for God’s protection and mercies the next time we head outdoors, because truly, ‘It is of the Lord’s mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not.” Lamentations 3:22

Very often, we think that to glorify God, we must be as perfect as a flawless gem. However, at times it is precisely our weaknesses that reveal God’s strength and grace. Uncle Ernest experienced this when he went through a spiritual trial. It all started when he tried to meditate unbiblically. Soon, he felt himself floating out of his body, and then he started seeing terrifying images in his mind’s eye. When he tried to pray to God, the oppression worsened, so he didn’t dare to pray. This went on for years, and he suffered in silence. He lived in torment, never truly able to have a good night’s rest. He considered being admitted to the mental institute but instead came to the conclusion that he would end his misery together with his life. With nothing to lose, he decided to pray to God

one last time. Amazingly, he was transported as in a vision, to the top of a high building, where one wrong step would mean death. There appeared a

pair of hands and a voice saying, “Come, and come to me”. He answered in his

heart, ‘God if it’s you, I come’…and took a step forward. Immediately, the vision ceased and he felt a sensation flowing from his head down to his soles, filling him with peace.

From this experience, he realized that God was the only one who could help him, when nobody else could. Also, he knew that full surrender was required for deliverance- no clinging on to doubts and hiding back in fear. May we too learn to glorify God through our weakness and to fully surrender ourselves to God.

gave his heart to God at a young age, and was committed to becoming a m i s s i o n a r y . While waiting for the call, he served ten years as a missionary and tract distributor in Glasgow. Finally, he felt called to preach to the cannibalistic people in the remote islands of New Hebrides. In 1858, he and his wife set off for Tanna, one of the islands in New Hebrides. His ministry was filled with innumerable hardships - he had to learn the language from scratch, the natives stole whatever they possibly could,

and soon after his wife gave birth to a son, both she and her son died, leaving John alone. In 1861, when the natives attempted to kill him, Paton was

forced to flee to Austra l ia .

There he remarried,

r e c e i v e d support for the

New Hebrides ministry and then returned to the islands in 1866. This time, with the help of many fellow missionaries, his efforts started yielding some

success - the cannibals began receiving Jesus into their hearts. May we learn to trust in the all-powerful Lord as Paton did.
