A Dog’s LifeJust like you, a dog starts out small and then

grows up. Later, the dog becomes old. When

a dog is born, she is called a puppy. Dogs live

Some dogs like toys for chewing. Dogs need a collar and a leash.

Veterinarians are pet doctors. They check weight, eyes, ears, and more.

Dog GearEven a free dog needs some things to live safely and happily. Dogs need dishes for food and water. They also need a collar and a leash. Dogs need a brush and toenail clippers. Many dogs enjoy having a special bed to lie on and toys just for them. You don’t have to spend a lot of money on fancy gear for your dog. What matters is that you spend time playing and taking care of him.

How to Groom a DogDogs also need to be groomed, or cleaned.

Grooming is easy and fun.

Daily ExerciseDogs also need exercise every day. A walk or

game of catch does the trick.

Ears and TeethDogs need a little help

keeping their ears and

teeth clean. When you

give your dog a bath, it is

a good idea to also clean

his ears with a cotton ball.

Special toothpaste is used

to keep dogs’ teeth clean.

This helps to keep the

dog healthy.

1. Get the dog wet. Rub a handful of dog shampoo all over him.

2. Rinse well until the water runs clear.

3. Rub your dog dry with a soft towel.
