the re- sult ¬ have been altogether satisfactory I is Indicated by the additions the company- has been making to its holdings in the camp It a stated by an official of the company soon after the ColeRyan inter- est ¬ obtained control that the new man ¬ agement development had 00 at its cmman the for doubt money I being expended wisely none will Development of the last summer has opened large bodies of low grade ore sus- ceptible ¬ of mining with steam shovels That much II known It is likewise kiown that bie of high grade ore have been in the workings in limestone formation but definite Inform tion concerning those developments are closely guarded Among the Improve monte under way o planned for the near future are a 1000ton smelter and a large concentrator which Is to b built near the present smeker New Properties Bought- The company h isi purchas sverl promising copper camp the last three months These prprie were acquired by rhma F has tur them the conpany new properties ac ¬ Mexico The holdings of the Giroux company irior to the recent purchases in Ely consisted of the Glroux property at Ely and the Sultana and San Jose groups 28 miles southeast of the town pf Carbo Sonora Mex The NAada property which is the most important and one of the three largest mines in Ely comprises an area of approximately 1090 acres of mining claims while in the Sultana and acres San Jose groups there i a total of 4 The active management of the proper- ties ¬ comprising the Glroux Cosliate Mines Co was turned over Cole Ryan syndicate in February of the pre ent year The Sultana and San Jose mines are both copper properties the f6rmer car Ing high gold values Shipments been made but were discontinued in the early part of 1906 owing to the low price of copper and the long haul to the smelt- ers ¬ at El P These have amounted to 500000 40 have been expend- ed ¬ In developing equipping the prop- erties ¬ which are said to have considera- ble ¬ mert but have been handicapped by 8 depth of 10 tet limestone ore booles are by the Alpha shaft 1215 feet develop levels at the 770 1000 and 1200foot Owing to the impracticability of pint taming the Alpha shaft as the main hoisting way the present management is sinking a new shaft 10 by 17 feet In the clear 700 feet to the westward This shaft is being sunk from the surface and raising is going on from the 1 and 1000 foot levels thereby giving pints of attack The ores in this deposit grade smelting and resemble those of the Btebee camp In September 1908 a ship- ment ¬ of 200 tons of ore from this deposit- was made to the Garfield smelter to as- certain ¬ Its commercial value The av- erage ¬ of the ore was between 12 and 13 per cent and the net smelter returns amounted to 440- 6Reserves in Porphyry- In the porphyry deposit the former man- agement ¬ estimated the ore reserves at 4000000 tons averaging 2S per cent cop ¬ per In addition to blocking out this ore body into 100foot uar at the present time the company II drilling with Key- stone ¬ drll to ascertain accurately the overburden and to determine whether or not th ores can b mined by steam shovel present thre drills are in operation and three moe are on the way to the property making six in allIn the limo depi it is somewhat pre- mature ¬ to size and importance- of the shoot developed by the Alpha shaft There Is already a considerable tonnage of direct smelting ore exposed estimated by the former management ta average 16 per cent and Indic coppr tions are encouraging the of the present ore body with development The property is equipped with a 450 ton concentrating mill which was built in 1906 and which has been employed- since that date principally in testing the ore The former management states that the property has sufficient water ob- tained ¬ from the underground workings- for the operation of this mill Tests on the ore are stated by the former man- agement ¬ to have shown a ratio of concen- tration ¬ of S into 1 and a saving of 8 that date I has n been rebuilt ENCOUNTER TWO VEINS j IN GOLDBANKS MINE- A strike made last week in the property of the Ooldbanks Merger Mines com- pany ¬ at Goidbanka Nev Is thus de ¬ scribed by MenThe development of tungsten promises- to be one of the most important indus- tries ¬ in White Pine county and Just now it is an industry worth while Sixty per- cent concentrates are worth 3399 a ton or 1665 a unit and anything over 60 per- cent goes 38 a unit Mr Fletcher said yesterday that it was expected to turn out 65 per cent concentrates with their own mill He said all that the mineral- Is in great demand more than 100 uses having been developed for the product CLAIM OWNERS MUST DO ASSESSMENT WORK- The new ruling which prohibits the re- locating ¬ of mining claims year after year is resulting in more than ordinary De- cember ¬ activity in many camps Claim owners who fail to do their annual assess- ment ¬ work this year will be in danger of ling their ground because the new law make I impossible to them to relocate a owner fal to do his assess- ment ¬ work two must elapse before he can relocate
