JJI-Joists have become the principal method of supporting floors in newly built homes. Of particular benefit in loft conversions, they are light, strong and of consistent quality and performance. When used in a loft conversion JJI-Joists provide a cost-effective alternative to steel beam floor supports. Steel beams require the removal of brickwork from the gable end as well as a crane to lift into place. The use of JJI-Joists significantly reduces the amount of building work and site disruption.

In comparison with solid timber, JJI-Joists will usually span from front to back in one piece and are easily installed into the roof space via the simple removal of two or three rows of tiles. As only one side of the property needs to have scaffolding, this allows the JJI-Joists to be fed into the loft by hand as they are light and easy to handle. This gives the conversion the following unique benefits.

Finished floor can be taken right into the eaves, •providing useful storage space

No need to penetrate party walls, a legal party wall •agreement (at an average cost of £750 per wall) is no longer necessary, plus the amount of building work is reduced

No damage to the existing ceiling and living •space below

The JJI-Joist floor system can be designed using the services of a JJI-Joist Distributor. Any modification of existing roof trusses and the final roof scheme must be addressed by a suitably qualified Engineer.James Jones & Sons Ltd
