Steps for Multiplying Decimals:

• Remove the decimal point from the numbers. For example, if the numbers are 2.5 and 3.25, then convert 2.5 to 25 and 3.25 to 325.

• Multiply the numbers together like usual. For the example, 25 multiplied by 325 equals 8,125.

• Add the amount of decimal places in the beginning step. For the example, one decimal place was in 2.5 and two were in 3.25, resulting in three decimal places, or a decimal to the thousandths place.

• Place the decimal point that many places to the left of the right end of the answer that corresponds to the appropriate decimal place. For the example, the number of decimal places is three and corresponds to the thousandths decimal place.
