Our first class for the upcoming school year will be held on Saturday, September 15th. Everyone will meet in church at 9:00 a.m.

Wednesday Classes for CICS will begin on September 19th.

Adult volunteers needed in our Religious Education Program Many adult Catholics express grave concerns about the faith of our young people and the future status of the Church in the upcoming generations, but so few of these adults come forward to help the Church try to make a difference in the faith-lives of our young people. Our Religious Education Program at IHM works hard to keep the Church going by evangelizing our young people, and we need more adult volunteers to teach, share, and develop the Catholic faith of the youngest members of our Church. Each year, we have no shortage of children and teenagers, with regularly about 150 to 200 students. On the contrary, we struggle to provide enough catechists (religion teachers) for them. To be able to provide the best possible program that we can, we really could use four more teachers, to cover the needs of grades 2, 3, 6, and 8. However, we do have a variety of ways in which one can serve with us. You do not neces-sarily have to teach. One could be a stand-alone catechist, a co-catechist, an aide to a catechist or catechists, or a gen-eral volunteer, who would help with administrative and logistical duties, as well as provide additional supervision. Our classes are held in the school building on Saturday mornings, from 9 to 11 AM, beginning in September and finishing in May. We also have classes for CICS students on Wednesdays, from 1:10 to 3:10 PM. We are currently in need of help for both days. If you think that you might be interested in joining our ministry as a catechist, aide, or volunteer, or if you would simply like more information about our volunteering needs and opportunities, please con-tact our Director of Religious Education at 773-478-1157, ext. 113 or at [email protected] . Thanks very much.

RCIA Program in IHM Do you worship with us, but have not yet officially become a baptized Catholic Christian? Or, are you an adult Catholic who attends Mass but has not yet made your First Communion nor your Confirmation? If so, we have an educational and sacramental preparation program intended just for you and other people like you. It’s called RCIA, which stands for the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults. It consists of religious education classes, a retreat, faith formation, spiritual renewal, and group sharing, and it is led by our Director of Religious Education, Daniel Maul. The RCIA group meets every two weeks in the morning, afternoon, or evening, on weeknights or weekends, depending on the group’s needs. The program will begin in early October, and the members will receive the Sacra-ments of Initiation on Holy Saturday, April 20, 2019. If you’d like to inquire more about this program, or perhaps even join the group, please contact Daniel, at (773) 478-1157, ext. 113 or [email protected].

Altar Serving All children who have made their First Communion are eligible and encouraged to serve at the altar during weekend masses. If they are in our Religious Education Program, they’ve already received training, but further training is still available. When your child wants to serve his or her first Mass, please call our DRE, Daniel Maul, at the rectory (extension 113), to schedule the mass. He will meet with your child before mass and serve with your child that day. Thank you.

Gracias.
