Murrumbidgee Valley Australian Football Assoc. Inc. - "FOOTY RECORD" - 2000

Australian Football followers throughout the Riverina were shocked and saddened by the death last Saturday of a tremendous footballer, who certainly left a lasting impression in the local area. Gregory William Leech was an instant success when he was recruited by the Ganmain Lions from the Eastern Districts League in Melbourne in 1976. He captain/ coached the side, which boasted some of the best talent assembled in the region, to a flag in his initial season in the South West League. This was the beginning of an association with local clubs which resulted in success both on and off the field. Leechy went on to coach both East Wagga-Kooringal and Mangoplah Cookardinia United to premierships. He won a League Best & Fairest and coached the South West League to the State championship in 1977. He remained actively involved in football in various capacities after he retired as a player and forged a successful business career in the W~gga region. Remembered as genuine down to earth bloke who could relate to anyone, Greg loved life, played hard and will be sadly missed by family, friends and the community. The Board of the MVAFA wish to pass on deepest sympathy to the members of the Leech family.

Only two rounds remain in the Mercantile Mutual Riverina League and positions within the top five are still far from settled. The minor premiership is still up for grabs and the two candidates in contention - the Lions and Tigers will sort that issue out when they clash at Ganmain

this weekend. A top three finish is the preferred option and the rest of the teams in the five - the Hoppers, Bulldogs and Crows are well placed to achieve that aim. The results from last week were somewhat predictable but all games this week are full of intrigue. Narrandera have had a dismal season with no wins so far but have a chance to salvage something from the year when they travel to Nixon Park to tackle Temora. The Kangaroos have also had a lean time and the game is sure to be competitive. The East Wagga-Kooringal Hawks have their last home game at Gumly when they clash with the improving United Goannas. The Hawks promised rouch but delivered little in a season marred by injury and inconsistency. They have a chance to finish the year with a couple of wins but face a challenge from the improving Goannas today. The young Goannas showed a lot of character in pushing the Bulldogs last week and will be confident of toppling the Hawks. Turvey Park have a chance to re-group when they tackle the Griffith Swans at Maher Oval. They have struggled on with a growing injury list and will be tested by the Swans but should have enough to take the points. The final two games are potential block-busters with much riding on the result. The winner of the Ganmain Grong Grong Matong Lions V Wagga Tigers clash will pocket the minor premiership which has the added bonus of flag favouritism, a week off in the first round of finals and a home game in the second semi. Both teams are chock-full of talent and the rivalry and occasion will bring out the best in both camps. The Leeton/ Whitton V Coolamon game at the· Leeton Showgrounds also shapes as a tremendous clash between two form sides who are desperate for finals glory. The Crows have reached the finals recently only to falter when it counted. The Hoppers had a taste of grand final day last year and desperately want to take the next .step. Both teams have produced hard and close battles in all their recent clashes and this one. will be no exception with so much at stake.

TE MORA 1{1-IN f.1-lllf)C )S I would sincerly like to welcome· back past

coaches and players for our .Reunion. The day kicks off with three games of. football against Narrandera.

At 6.30 the doors open at the Town Hall to start off the evening. I know there will be old friendships renewed and lots of games replayed. I know each and everyon~ will have an enjoyable weekend.

Last week ~gaihst Leeton we had no success. The, 1es ~ere.· well beaten by a more

experienced si_de. It was great to see Dennis get a full side. · ·

The Reserves were lacking number with several 18s backing up. Better players on the day were Mick Gilchrist, .G.len Hartwig, Steve . McCormack, Chris· McCormack and Ross Devereux.

The Firsts were beaten by a more experienced side. With numbers depleted through injuries, some of the Reserves had to back up. The younger players such as Steve Drum and Pat Robinson had great games. Other st stand out ·were. Rob Harper, Leith Mills and Andrew Derrick.

A special mention about our U16s who play the grand final against Narrandera this Saturday. In a team effort Reith and the boys really turned it on last week against Ariah Park-Ardlethan to win by 123 points. Players to stand out were Brent Krause, John Arentz (BOG), Ian Oliver, Daniel Reid, Grant Reid, Ian Jordon (9 goals), Dermont McCormack and Mick Miller. All the best for todays fellas.

As I said, we host Nar'rander today, so let's get behind our respective coaches and have three wins.

Once again a warm welcome to our past warriors.

EAST WAGGA-KOORINGAL 1111 l\TI{S We would be all aware now of the tragic loss

of a great man in Greg Leech. Greg was the most respected and loved man the Club has ever been associated with. He touched us all in one way or another and is going to be missed terribly. Our deepest sympathy to his family and his partner Wendy. He will be remembered for a long, long time.

On the football scene the 1 B's went down by the narrowest of margins. A disappointment sure, but they can hold their heads up. James Richards picked up the Mullen T shirt and gave his all. The Sportsman Warehouse award to David Barnes and Al Willis the McDonald voucher.

The 2nd's not to be also going down. Danny Bramham played his best to take out the Breust Pewter and Mark Anthony awards. Kooringal Takeaway to Brett Limbrick. Tas Willis was solid all day, he received the Miller Truck Hire award and the Workers Hairstop Players Player award.

Still missing vital players the 1 st's knew they would have a battle on their hands and it surely was. It doesn't help when you have only got 15 on the ground. Through no fault of their own for the ones not out there. A debacle ·and disgrace. Breust Pewter and the Blarney Dinner to Geoff Hopkins. The Miller boys having a great day, Ryan the Sportsman Warehouse winner and Brad the Eagle Boys. Wagga 1st Aid Players Player to Matty Morris. The Blarney Coaches award to Ben Murnane.

Tonight we have the Red Faces extravaganza so make sure you have got all your acts together. So let's make it an enjoyable and memorable evening. Next week is our final game at Griffith. There will be a bus for all concerned. So give your name to Vicky Grieves. There will be a few pub stops on the way back to make it that much more enjoyable On the following day our B&F count is on so that will be a must for everyone. So make sure you get there. Today we host the MCU boys so a win would make the night more enjoyable.

LEETON-wH1TToN (~ Il() l\T S There were 3 reasons why you didn't have a

good time at the Dark Town Strutters Ball on Saturday night: 1. You weren't one of the 180 odd that attended, 2. You were a Swans supporter soaking about the pasting you received at the hands of Geelong or 3. You were the loser who was twice ejected for trying to steal the Club's TV .... well done idiot.

Thanks to everyone who supported the club's major social event of the year, looking forward to

. seeing you at the upcoming events. There were 3 important game of footy played

on Saturday, all of them going the way of thei Crows in emphatic fashion to give us some much needed percentage boosts. The 18's came out firing against an undermanned Temora outfit to record a 145 point Victory. The highlight of the game was the way the boys shared the footy, especially late in the game, when players constantly looked for team mates in better position in the forward 50. The lowlight being the mistifying conduct of the central umpire who was baulking players as they lined up for goal and generally acting like a clown, something not needed at all, let alone in junior footy. · Brad Lynch showed he was not just a backman bagging 6 majors in the victory, while David Harrison picked up a lazy 5 across half forward. Others to stand out in the victory were Craig Purtill, Ben Scroope and Kane Bullock.

Reserve Grade recorded an extremely important victory, moving into the five with a 205 point victory. Craig Kefford and Michael Lashbrook were in outstanding in defence, while Neil Mccallum and Glen Haase proved unstoppable

· up forward kicking 9 and 7 goals respectively. Others to impress were the speedster Carmine

lanelli, reigning best and fairest Clint Thpmpson and the Indian Rubberman Nigel Durkin.

First Grade was for the most part the Michael Fraser show, the big man deciding to smash any record he could put his hands on the way to a personal tally of 17.9 - a fair day out. His display was all the more outstanding when you breakdown the way in which he gathered his possessions, with many class marks, some clever work on the ground and from memory he even had time to hand off a goal.

. Daryl Clayton was also outstanding, bagging 5 goals and even daring to steal one of Michaels in the third final term, while Ty McGregor and Matt Robertson put together a tremendous display in the midfield, setting up many attacking forays. Trent Lang confirmed his standing as a star of the future while the silky skills of Shane Whelan were again showcased.

Our netballers won two and lost two, A Grade (27-41) and B Grade (18-26) going down, with C Grade (16-14) and the Juniors (27-4) both recording victories. The juniors are set for a big finals series so get over to the netball courts and support them in their quest.

What a game. It was worth crawling naked across rusty barbed wire and landmines, fording piranha infested toxic sludge and scaling mountains of raw sewerage just to avoid. Terry (Noah) Wallace has much to answer for. Even though the final siren precipitated a spontaneous eruption of relief for players and spectators alike, there were some compensations.

The Seconds contest likewise was like having iced water poured over your front teeth, but the game was momentarily illuminated by Francis Furner who returned to earth with snow on his ears after a gravity defying, stratospheric screamer. Pat Edmunds continued his recent brilliant form having more twists and turns than a library of Agatha Christie stories, and Josh Moncrieff was so hyped he even burst from the pocket to the wing before he kicked the ball, which is not a bad effort considering it was in the forward pocket where he first took possession.

TURVEY PARK II IJI ... l ... l)f )fiS Our horrific run of injuries continues with the

loss of Adrian Hill and Dane Campbell both out for the rest of the season, we now have 15 players on the Senior list out. Our backs are truly against the wall but I am sure that the players will give their all in the coming weeks in true Bulldog spirit.

Only two games of netball, our Juniors had a good win, 36-8 with Carrie Friedlieb winning the Ladies Auxiliary award. Once again Michelle Kelly was outstanding in A Grade to win the Mug, their score being 72-15. This only leaves A & B Grade to play, good luck to the girls.

Our Under 18's were minus several players due to work, illness and senior call up, we were comprehensively beaten. There are lessons to be learnt there. Nick Bowyer is running into some good form to win the Ladies Auxiliary award, the Eagle Boys Pizza went to Simon Molly and the Club Socks to Michael Stearman.

The Reserves had a comfortable win, with Ben Rodham winning the Mug, the Eagle Boys Pizza to Cameron Barker, the Phil Elliott Betting voucher to Joel Elliott and the Golden Seasons dinner to Neale Francis.

The Seniors had a terrible game, losing Dane in the first quarter and Adrian in the third we had to pull out all the strings in the last quarter and thanks to debutante Travis Richards, who kicked 3 goals in the last quarter we came home with points. For Travis's game he won the Miltons Gear supporters award, the Salon on Morgan went to Matt Carroll, The Rules Club dinner to Craig McGough, the Eagle Boys Pizza to Grant Bourne, the Active Physio to Scott Rainbird and the Bulldog Mug to Scott Bourne.

Next week after the Tigers game we have our Best & Fairest vote count in the Jezza Room. This is for all the football and netball, we are also drawing the 300 Club Final so make sure you have paid for your tickets. There are a few spare ones if you would like an extra chance at the $2000.

Presentation night will be the week after the Grand? Final at PCYC, more information tonight.

RIVERINA UMPIRES ASSOCIATION '9?.g,port) Rule of the week: A behind has been scored and the Field

Umpire has signalled 'All Clear' and the Goal Umpire finishes waving his flags. Just as the defending player is about to kick out, his Team is thrown to the ground 25m out from goal at a 45 degree angle. Does the Umpire award a Free Kick and where is it taken?

a. Yes, the Field Umpire awards a Free Kick to the Player offended against, at the back line of the Centre Square.

b. No, the Field Umpire calls on the Player kicking out to hurry up and kick the ball in, and in the next break, speaks to the Player who through the other Player to the ground.

c. Yes, the Field Umpire awards the Free Kick at the place where the infringement occurred.

This week sees the final round of the Farrer FootbaW League for season 2000. All teams would like to end the home and away season with a win, especially those teams that will be involved in the final series. It has been good to see a lot more umpires at training over the past month, especially with the bad weather we have had. All umpires must remember that if you train on Tue and Thu nights your chances of being selected for a finals game increases. Gary, Norm, Lee and I will be out and about over the weeks ahead looking at umpire performances leading up to the finals.

Don't forget to finish off your accreditation and hand the book to me for signatures. The Home tavern is our watering hole after our games this month, so make the effort and get there and socialize. On the social scene, this months Dinner Night will be at the Home Tavern so stay tune for more details. Plans for the trip away at Mulwala are progressing well and looks like being a real hoot, so get your leave passes organized, come along and have a great time. More information will follow; just see Dave Farrelly or Pat O'Donoghue.

UMPIRE PROFILE ADAM ROSS Adam started umpiring in 1997 as a young

boundary umpire who needed some extra

I money for himself. He played junior football for Turvey Park and then went out and ran the boundary just to keep fit. This year saw Adam who is now 14 years old make the transition from boundary to field umpire in the WDJFL. He has run with one of our senior umpires Garry Frater who said he has a lot of potential.

Adam's reasori for taking up the challenge

was driven by the extra money he could make and the enjoyment of keeping fit and being paid for it. His main goal is to umpire a senior RFL final and to maintain his fitness. There is no doubt that in the years ahead, Adam will be one of the senior umpires in the RUA.

His highlight so far in his career to date was running the boundary in the 1999 U18 RFL Grand Final. Adam's other hobbies are mountain bike riding and surfing the net on his computer. He is a keen supporter of the Geelong football team (another one of Pottsie's mates), and he would like to publicly thank his 'MUM' for cleaning his whites every week.

Rule of the week answer: a. 12.4.2(b)(i) All Clear Given but

Play has not Recommenced. Where a Free Kick is awarded to a Player

during a period when the Field Umpire has signaled 'All Clear' or touched All Clear' for a Behind to be recorded and the football being brought back into play, the Free Kick shall be taken from in the case of a defending Team, where the infringement occurred, or at the back of the Center Square, whichever is the greater penalty against the attacking Team.

Good luck to all umpires running this weekend. Until next week

Graeme Cox, Publicity Officer

Murrumbidgee Valley Australian Football Assoc. Inc. • "FoOfY RECORD" - 2000

# It certainly rained goals at the Leeton Showgrounds last Saturday as the Crows went on a goal kicking spree racking up over a hundred for the day. The 18's set the scene early kicking 27, the Magoos followed with 34 and the No 1 side poured on the pressure with a remarkable 38 big ones. Mick Fraser bagged 17 in an outstanding performance and may have just snuck away from the field in the quest for the leading goal scorer in the RFL for the season 2000. Merk reckons there were a few certainties to come out of the day - Mick's boots will need a good coat of polish b4 the next game, the Temora defenders all went home with stiff necks, the flags are worn out and the goal umpires would have slept like babies after all that exercise during the day!!!

# Congratulations to Matthew Carroll, who kicked 1 O goals to reach the magical 'Ton' in the Farrer League. He is certainly in famous company as the Queen's Mum also racked up a century on the same day!! Bet he is absolutely chuffed to be mentioned and compared in the same sentence as Royalty!!! Could be a great trivia question - "Who got a ton the same day as the 'Old Royal' got one?"

# Football followers in the Riverina are saddened with the sudden deaths of two prominent members of the community in the last week. Greg Leech passed away on Saturday after along illness while Anne-Maree Pellow was tragically taken from her family also last week, after a horrific car accident. Anne was the daughter of champion Ariah Park footballer Noe! "Bluey" Walker. Greg Leech burst onto the Riverina football scene in 1976 when he was recruited from Melbourne to take charge of the Gan main Lions in the South West League. The Lions roared to the Premiership under Leechy and that team is still touted as one of the very best to be assembled in the Riverina area. He also coached the East Wagga - Kooringal Hawks and Mangoplah Cookardinia United to success in the Fa.rrer League. He remained active in football circles in various capacities after· retiring as a player and will be remembered as a top player and top bloke. Vale Anne-Maree and Gregory William - Rest in Peace:

# The Presentation Night for the Farrer League is fast approaching and thoughts turn to trophy winners and of course the absolute HIGHLIGHT of the Night - The Farrer League Princess judging. Merk & Tile have booked their

front row seats and can't wait for the big night. Tile hopes all the 'Rivchick Babes' are there cos he wants to show 'em his new seeing eye dog!! "Blinder" is a renowned tail wagger ~ hope he doesn't get too hot under the collar!!! The Vote count and Presentations will be staged at the Rules Club Wagga Wagga on Wednesday August 23rd and if you require tickets see your club secretary - but you'd better be quick. .

# The TAC Cup season for the NSW/ACT Rams is over after their narrow defeat at the hands of second placed Dandenong Stingrays in Canberra last Saturday. The Rams pushed their more fancied rivals before going down by 27 points. Lew Roberts was named in the best and Adam Schneider kicked a goal in his debut game. It will be interesting if any of the players are successful in being signed by AFL clubs in the up-coming series of drafts.

Also if anyone knows if they have Jame's Dryas-a-Bone. it was accidentally picked up the last time we played Turvey at Griffith, could you please return it no questions asked. Anyone who requires one of the Swans polo shirts or jumpers please see Damien Scott. This week we return to sunny Wagga to take on Turvey Park in a must win for all grades. Thankyou to Trevor Harrison for his continued support in sponsoring today's game. The club and the players value his support greatly. Good luck to all grades. GO SWANSII

Leeton-Whitton notes (cont. from page 8)

On the social scene the Funny Money night has been postponed due to Social Committee fatigue, but get back to the Wade Sports Club tonight for the awards and watch the footy finals with a couple of quiet ales.

Today we meet the Hoppers at Candlestick and we know how important the points will be today, both the ladder positions and psychological advantages come September. The two teams have had some stirring battles over recent seasons, I'm sure today will be no different.

A big congratulations to Brian Conroy on registering his first score since '94 last week. Aim for the big sticks today B.C!

Coolamon notes (cont. from page 9)

Fortunately, as Bart's running style resembles that of a constipated duck anyway, the injury was virtually unnoticeable. In fact, in Coolamon's long history there has been only one slower runner -and that gentleman moved with all the speed of a quadriplegic tortoise - but modesty prevents me from revealing his name.

Congratulations are in order to Jarrod and Jacinta who were inspired by Virginia and Drumy and announced their engagement recently. They've got the engagement ring, next come the wedding ring - and finally the suffering.

Also belated congratulations to Greg McKelvie on his 150th last week~nd. Squeak's beautiful balance, dazzling ball skills and inspirational courage have made him one of Coolamon's finest ever players and his reappearance in the green and white this year has added immeasurably to our chances of ultimate glory.

Turvey Park notes (cont. from page 12)

This week we take on Griffith and we must continue to win to have any chance of the double chance in the finals, the Reserves will be a tough one against the League Leaders, so get behind your teammates and celebrate with wins in the football and netball. We invite the Griffith Swans players and supporters to join us for a drink in the Jezza Room after the game.

UP THE BULLDOGS

Ganmaln-GG•M notes (cont. from page 10)

Griffith to take on the Swans. On an unfamiliar surface both grades struggled. For A Grade, Shanna Brill worked hard all over the court to earn herself the Mug. Narelle Walsh was tight in defence and stood up to the challenge of playing on a very experienced opponent. Narelle took home the Ganmain Hotel award. In an untidy game with lots of handling errors, Kirsty Ferguson was the stand out player for B Grade. Kirsty put in a strong fourquarter effort of well disciplined defence and deservedly took home the Mug. This week will be an important week for several of our Grades who are fighting to remain in finals contention. Best of luck to all grades in our last home game of the season.

The Ladies Auxiliary have the catering for the Luncheon Booth at the Ganmain Show on Saturday 19th August, any mother or helpers that can assist contact Maria McPherson or Heather Smith. Also any cooking of small cakes would be appreciated. The men have the Barbecue at the Dog Show and any help would be appreciated.

The Committee, supporters and players of the Ganmain GGM Football Club extend their sympathy to the Leech family on the loss of Greg. Greg was coach of arguably one of the finest premiership teams to come from Ganmain in 1976.

This week another tough one against the Tigers.

Farrer League

The Board of the MVAFA joins with all Australian Football followers in the Riverina area in conveying sincere condolences to the Pellow and Walker families and the Ariah Park community, on the tragic passing of Anne-Maree Pellow in a recent car accident. Anne-Maree was a vibrant person involved in many activities in the town and will be sadly missed by all who were privileged to know her. Our thoughts are with those she leaves behind.

It has taken 17 weeks of an absolutely incredible roller coaster ride and now with only one round remaining in the in the home & away section of the Mercantile Mutual Farrer Football League the jig-saw puzzle of final five participants has been solved. Cootamundra are assured of a spot compliments of their emphatic victory against the Collingullie/Ashmont/ Kapooka at the Crossroads Oval last Saturday. This win, combined with the Marrar Bombers demolition of the Ardlethan Stars sees the Blues well clear on · points. The Ardlethan V Cootamundra clash this week, which was being touted as a 'mini-final' will now have no effect on the five.

All clubs are to be commended on their efforts during the season and while the plaudits go to the Magpies, Saints, Bombers, Brown Bombers and Blues on progressing to the next round - a big pat on the back to the. Stars, Demons and Bushpigs who helped make the competition close and exciting for the entire season. The Reserve grade competition has also been great and positions within the five are yet to be finalised. The finals series is shaping to be one of the closest in many a year and should

Editorial Round Eighteen

have the fans roaring until well after the final hooter on grand final day.

Last week the Saints snuck in by 9 points against the Brown Bombers in a top tussle at McPherson Ovat The Magpies were far too strong for the Bushpigs - where the highlight was Matthew Carroll kicking ten goals to take his season's tally to 105. Marrar blew the Stars out of the sky and the finals, with a sterling performance which augers well for their finals campaign and the Cootamundra Blues booked a finals berth as they demolished the Demons.

Today's last round features some interesting games to herald in the finals. The Rock-Yerong Creek are still focussed on the minor premiership and should earn a week's rest with a win over Collingullie/Ashmont/Kapooka at Victoria Park. Ariah Park Mirrool are still a chance of finishing in third spot and should be too strong at home against Rivcoll. Cootamundra will sharpen up for a tilt at the finals with a win over Ardlethan at Clarke Oval and the 'match of the round' will be staged at _Langtry Oval where Marrar face North Wagga RAAF in another vital game. The Saints are still an outside chance of finishing on top while the Bombers need ·the win to be assured of third spot and the double chance.

First of all congratulations to Matty on reaching that magnificent 100 goal target. It is a great effort and one that I know you, and the Club, are very proud of.

Last weeks visit to Pig Park resulted in two good victories. The Magoos played very well with somewhat of a disrupted side. Training and attitude will play a very important part in team selection from now on in. Awards to: TyreWorld Mug - Dale Gowland. The Ag'n'Vet Services socks - Jai Driscoll. The Ladies $10 - .Simon Schlitz and Ashley Ryan. The Firsts played pretty well and handled the open spaces very capably. There were a couple of absentees so like the Magoos the selection process from here on in will be delicate. Remember we are all after the same objective -two flags. Awards were: The Rock Butchery Mug -Matthew Collins. The Porky & Verda Mug - Matty Carroll. The Home Dinner 42 -Andrew Hillier. The Ag'n'Vet socks - Justin Driscoll.

The Calcutta voting before today is: Others 51 , Grunter 34, Craigy 33, Leroy 27, Barney 25; Jiffy 20. So as you can see Others will win with Grunter and Craigy fighting for the two placings. Winners will receive their envelopes in the coming week.

The Club B&F count is scheduled for Sat 26th August at The Bowling Club. This is after the 2nd Semi which we hope will be played at The Rock. It is hoped that the 2nds will be,playing that day too. All welcome. Any changes will be advertised.

League B&F is on Wed 23rd August at The Rules Club. See Sandman for tickets as each Club has only 15. First in will get them. They are $22.

The Presentation Ball will be on Friday 22nd September at The Kings Own. Put this in your diary. Super Magpie members are on the house.

Don't forget the Masquerade Ball tonight at The Pub. The girls have put a lot of work into the organisation of this so everyone turn up and have a great night before we get down to the business end. '

Today we welcome the Gullie boys to Victoria Park for the last home and away of the year. How things can change in a year as they deprived us of a grand final berth last year and failed to make the play offs this year. • Still they will be anything but easy so we must settle down and play controlled percentage football. Not only the minor. premiership but also the Club champoinship is at stake. It would be great to win both again this year, but the holy grail is on the 9th September.

Thought for the Week: If you fail to plan, you plan to fail. ·

Murrumbidgee Valley Australian Football Assoc. Inc. • "FOOTY RECORD"·- 2000

First let me send our deepest sympathy to the Walker family of Ariah Park and the Pellow family of Temora on their loss of Anne-Marie.

This week as it turns out is our last game for 2000. I personally wish to thank Kane & Darren for their coaching and all the boys for getting behind your coaches and what each and everyone of you do in 2001 I wish you well. Thank you to our sponsors, Bill & Marg at Crossroads Hotel, Ashmont Hotel, DSTR, RH. Blake & Co, Salon Christie, Body 2000. Thanks to our strapper Tracey, Ronnie for his rub downs, Terry and Scott for their running, Dash and other water runners, our Boundary boys on home games, Greg for his timekeeping, Al for the flag waving, those who helped George on the gate, our team manager, these are all thankless jobs. So now we say thankyou to you all.

Our Legends Ball was a great hit, so thanks go to Heath & David for a job well done, if you didn't have a good time it was your own fault.

To last week's game, not much to say about the One's, there were One's who wanted to win and One's who didn't make any difference to. Young Nathan Fuller put in a good one to be awarded the top award, Scott Hugler the R.H. Blake and Troy Gunning the Body 2000.

In the Magoos a different story, Bonz (Craig Byrnes) had another field day kicking a bagful, so hence he got to drink out of the Mug, the Haircut went to Daniel Hocking and the DSTR to that ever young Pete Fowler. A little about last weeks First Grade, beats me why a club can be so far in front and whinge so much to the man in white, taking particular notice last week, I can't understand why there wasn't more reports throughout the season on one who shall remain nameless.

This week we head to TRYC for our last game, let's make it a good finish, keep an ear open for our Presentation Night, our own Best & Fairest is tomorrow at our Clubrooms, good luck to everyone.

The Leagues Best & Fai~est count is Wednesday 23rd August at the Rules Club, please let me know if you wish to attend as I only have a certain number of tickets. Tickets are $22.00 each. We have Robyn Cox as our Miss Farrer entrant. So a big thank you to Robyn. Some players may be asked to attend by the League, so if this is the case please make yourself available.

Good luck to teams in the finals, and may the best team on the day be the victor. Thanks

When a tragedy happens in a small community like ours everyone is affected in some· way or another. Especially when it involves one of the most loved and respected "characters" in Ariah Park. The Club sympathies go out to the Walker and Pellow families, both of whom have been an integral part of our great club for many years. •Really sometimes things happen that makes everything else pale into insignificance.

The Seconds had a solid 4 goal win, keeping them on top of the ladder and needing a win · this week to take the Minor Premiership. Wally Gaynor kicked 1 goal to keep him in touch with the leader in the goal kicking award. From my calculations he needs about 31 goals this week to take the award. Best players on Saturday were Nick Jenkins, Joel Buster, Craig Leiper, Ted Walker and Matty O'Dwyer.

The Firsts stayed with the Saints all day but never quite overhauled them to go down by 1 1/2 goals. Billy Can Bryce kicked the one goal he needed to bring up his half century and then went missing after that. He too needs a big haul this week to take out the award, approximately 62 goals should be enough, big ask really. Best players included Denis the Menace, Luke

. Gooden, Big bustling Glen Bell, Robert Edis. 1 up, 2 down in the netball, the A Grade playing Coota in a make up game and going dow.n 46-27. The B Grade played well but still went down narrowly 35-25. C Grade won a close one 31 -26.

Well back home for the last time this year against the Pigs. The last time this year we'll see Wicka on the scor-eboard, Graeme Edis giving cheek on the gate and Billy Preston driving· the 97 metres from his place to his favourite position up the northern end of the

. ground. Go you good things.

Murrumbidgee Valley Australian Football Assoc. Inc. • "FOOTY RECORD" - 2000

Mixed results last week with 2 from 4 in the footy and netball. The Magoos struggled for numbers due to an exodus to Woomera but still put in a fair effort despite being beaten. The K&J Cross Players Player to the young Kenyan Sam Shippard, Graham "Grub" McDonald picked up the Palm & Pawn beer tickets with his usual performance. Michael Hoogevelt won the Earsman Dry Cleaning award and Rod "Rocker Earsman showed there is still some run in the old legs to collect the Farmers Home Counter Meal. Craig Pickering picked up more kicked than Rodney King at a LA Police Reunion and was awarded the Black Swan Bistro Award.

The Firsts had a win despite an average performance but a win is a win and we won't knock back the points. Damien "Lewy" Graham put in a blinder to win the Players Player Mug. The Palm and Pawn beer tickets to Russell Randall while the two veterans Robert Schnoegl and Gavin Hofert picked up the Palm & Pawn Bistro meal and Swift Petrol award respectively.

The netballers also had mixed results with B Grade having a win and C Grade missing out. B Grade award winners were surprise!!!surprise Cassandra Malone the Players Player Mug and Sally Noack the Palm beer tickets. The C Grade awards were as follows: K&J Cross Pewter to Kylie Duncan and the Palm & Pawn beer tickets to Liz Zanker. Congratulations to Dan Grentell who won the Lucky No. $50 and the Member Beer Tickets.

Today we travel to Marrar to take on the Bombers in 4 important games to finish a long Home and away season. Remember all back to the clubrooms for some Trivia tonight starting at 7.30 p.m and $5 a head at the door for a good nights entertainment.

Munumbldgee Valley Australian Football Assoc. Inc. • "FOOTY RECORD" - 2000

After a lean couple of years the Blues have earned themselves a place in the 2000 finals series following last week's win over the reigning Premiers - Collingullie. With a few regular First Graders to return from injury, Jamie and the selectors will have their homework to do come finals time.

Last week's award winners were Danny Jacques and Andy Craig. Others worthy of a special mention include Mark Dirks, Scott Roberts, Dean Cooper and Coach, Jamie Ross. Unfortunately we· don't have · 20 awards for the fantastic team effort.

The Ressies were again down on numbers and were well beaten by the CAK's team. Best performers were Chris Manwaring, Garth Howlett, John Blackman and Ben Donoghue.

Now to the netballers, who have also booked a finals berth. Great stuff girls! Jeni Gilbert has done a fantastic job to date and is keen to finish the "practice rounds" on a high. The Bluebirds are always keen for support so if you have the time visit them at Nicholson Park today. Please make the effort to do so.

Auskick concludes their season tomorrow with presentations after the kids have a game. This includes a sausage sizzle and drinks for the kids who have participated throughout the year. If the weather looks doubtful, presentationswill be held in the clubrooms. The kids will also be having a game at half-time in the Seniors match today. Be sure and support them.

The Best & Fairest vote count will be held at the clubrooms tonight at 7.p.m. The dress code is neat casual, men must wear a tie. A casserole dinner will be available in the cost of $20 (drinkers) or $10 (non-drinkers). ·

Today we welcome the Stars to Clarke Oval. They have had the better of us so far this season, so let's see if we can't turn it around. With today being "Old boys/past players day" all current players should be pumped up for a win running into the finals.

Talking of finals, don't forget the Club has duties to fulfil at the Finals and if y9ou are available to assist, President Greg will no doubt want to hear from you.

UP THE BLUES.

Murrumbidgee Valley Australian Football Assoc. Inc. • "FOOTY RECORD" - 2000

Last weekend saw the curtains well and truly closed on a 2000 finals campaign after we were outplayed by Marrar - we started OK but ·just couldn't convert. On the social front, those people who ventured down to the Hall to support the club off the field were treated to a great night out - we certainly have some talente_d people in our midst. Many thanks to all those that helped out with the organisation of the night. The 100 club was won by Kieran Spencer, with the Members Draw finally being won - well done Liz Currie - $300 richer. Don't forget our Votecount will be held tomorrow at the Sportsground - come along and see what should be a close contest in the various B&Fs.

The Mighty Magoos just keep putting in the efforts for no real reward - in our final game of the year I would like to thank those guys that have plugged away week in week out ~ you are the champions of our club in the eyes of many. Hope you get a bit more support next year. Votegetters in the Bowling Club Award were (5) Kieran Bundy, (4) Sean Bailey, (3) Gerard Carroll, (2) Peter Wykes, (1) Con Murphy. The Ardlethan Fashion and Leisur~ Towel Award went to Kieran Bundy, who also won the Mug. The London Hotel Award to Con Murphy. This week the Commins Hendriks Encouragement Award went to Wesley Bonny.

The Seniors just were not good enough on the day. Votegetters in the Horan Transport Award were (5) David Currie, (4) Matthew McDonald, (3) Brendan O'Reilly, (2) Matthew Currie, (1) John Carroll.. The Farmers Home Hotel Award went to David Currie, the London Hotel Award went to Brendan O'Reilly. The Riverina Soil Management Towel to Matthew Werner,

In netball news the girls maintained winning form against Marrar but managed to keep a little in reserve for their "make" up games to be played this week - one can only wonder what the hierarchy were thinking of by playing 2 games in one week.
