Hypertrophic & Restrictive Cardiomyopathy:

Genetics, Imaging and Emerging Treatments in Adult and Pediatric Patients

Wednesday, March 13, 2013New York City

Page 2: Hypertrophic & Restrictive Cardiomyopathy: Genetics, Imaging and Emerging Treatments in Adult and Pediatric Patients

Introduction This program will focus on the diagnosis of hypertrophic and restrictive cardiomy-opathies (e.g. HCM, sarcoidosis, infiltrative diseases including iron overload and amyloidosis, mitochondrial disorders) based on imaging and modern genetics and the management of these conditions including novel therapeutics, catheter and sur-gical based interventions including cardiac replacement therapy. Lectures will be given by internationally recognized experts who will address the current clinical practice, use of standard and emerging treatments, and evolution of the field.

Target AudienceThis activity is designed for both adult and pediatric cardiologists, interventional cardiologists, pediatricians, internists, cardiac nurses, physician assistants, physical therapists, and other medical professionals involved in the evaluation, diagnosis and/or management of patients with hypertrophic and restrictive cardiomyopathy.

Learning Objectives• Demonstrate an understanding of how to identify the phenotype of HCM and

phenocopies that mimic HCM

• Delineate methods to risk stratify patients with HCM for SCD and role of AICD for primary prevention

• Discuss and understand the surgical and interventional approaches to hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy (HOCM)

• Identify benefits of cardiac transplantation in HCM and RCM and recognize the limitations of LVAD therapy in this population

• Delineate the mechanisms of specific disease modifying therapies for specific restrictive cardiomyopathies and their appropriate use

• Outline emerging risk factors for SCD in HCM

• Describe the clinical utility and interpretation of genetic testing for patients with HCM and RCM

AccreditationThe College of Physicians and Surgeons of Columbia University is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

AMA Credit Designation StatementThe College of Physicians and Surgeons designates this live activity for a maximum of 6.75 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Nurses and physician assistants are encouraged to check with their accrediting organization to ensure they accept AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™.

SupportWe expect support for this program through grants from pharmaceutical and medical device companies.
