What is hypertension?
• Force of the blood against artery walls is high
• Systolic blood pressure 140 mm Hg or higher
• Diastolic blood pressure 90 mm Hg or higher
What should you eat?
• Wholegrain • Fresh fruits • Fresh vegetables • Fish • Nuts
• Reduce sodium intake – 2,300 mg a day or less
• Increase potassium
Outcomes
• BP within acceptable limits for individual • Disease process/prognosis and therapeu&c regimen understood
• Demonstrate stable cardiac rhythm and rate • Perform relaxa&on techniques, guided imagery, distrac&on
• Monitor and record blood pressure
